They let us leave work at 2pm today - yippee.

I don't have any big plans. Probably just watch the ball drop.

(OK that last sentence was a grammatical train wreck. but 'from whom I'm waiting on follow up items' sounds like it was written by a Nob).

I made roasted potatoes with olive oil and garlic ahead of time, just have to snip fresh parsley and dill to sprinkle over them, work Sonny, feed pups and then change and head for the party. I seriously can't believe they are starting New Year's Eve party at 6pm. Who starts a pot-luck dinner party at 6pm on a day when people have to work? Especially when you expect people to stay past midnight? Sigh.

I guess I shouldn't be so cranky I just don't really love New Year's Eve to begin with. I think I've reached that stage of life where I'd just as soon curl up in bed, watch the ball drop, and not have to dodge drunken idiots on the road home. I did let hosts know I'll be bowing out early to get home and stay with Molly at midnight. She's terrified of fireworks and after the seizures I'm definitely NOT leaving her alone tonight. We have a neighbor who drives across the state line and picks up enough fireworks to destroy a small third world country for every holiday short of Arbor Day. Of course expecting him to cut it short on holidays like Labor Day or 4 July when people have to work the next day is destroying his freedom, and we can't tell him what to do. Um, actually they're illegal in our state and yes we can. Sigh.

I'm just little miss festivity tonight, aren't I?

Oh well. Off to train Sonny, change and head off for the enforced festivity. Sigh.

I didn't watch the whole game, but the parts that I saw and the commentary I heard, it seemed that USC had their heads up their butts because they didn't want to be there.

I found this stat online: Of all of GT's wins this year, the only team that scored less points against them than USC did was the Presbyterian Blue Hose.

lol! That's okay. One of those things you're allowed to ignore. DH is happy - and GT has lost a string of bowl games so it was nice to have a win after a "meh" season.

And DH went to work early (like and got home just after 11 to watch. I had the fuzzy bees out already. Couple of stuffed bees....

Wow! Yes our defense has not been noteworthy so even when we scored lots of points, the other team would too!

DD and I went through her hoodies and sweatshirts and bagged what she's NOT taking - don't need a lot of that in Orlando, right? I'll box is up after she's gone but now it's out of the way, at least.

I also got the wrapping paper and bags and associated detritus put away.

did i mention that one of my friend's daughters is doing the same thing as your DD? She left this fall and has already started the program.

Bethany is a year younger than your dd - I need to get her number for her.

She has family there in Orlando so if anything happens- she would be a good person to know.

Oh that's nice, E. I know some of her fellow CC students are going too, but will be in the dorms. At least she'll know somebody.

My brother is planning to stop and visit her in late January too.

I'm off to what we used to laughingly call the "geezer party". Mom and Dad invited the entire neighborhood every New Year's Eve to a smorgasbord/potluck (8pm start, Jane!) because no one would have to drive

DH and I weren't invited when we first got here because of the kids, thus "geezer party". The kids have since been allowed to come (they're older and less inclined to intrude on adults - they watch tv in the playroom, generally), so we've gone each year.

I'm bringing some old-fashioned Chex Mix (yum, butter and Worcestershire sauce!) and our family favorite almond roca cookies.

I hope you all have a nice New Year's Eve

We were invited to a couple of parties - but they were both very heavy drinker parties and i'm just not in the mood... i'm not a big New Year Eve's person anyway and now that DD is going to NY parties - I really want to be home just in case.

She's not "driving" anywhere and I trust the family whose house she's at - but I just want to be home, able to answer the phone and able to get her just in case... They live out in the county so they are able to shoot fireworks - you never know what might happen there.

and i have a rocking New Year's Eve planned...

I'm working on lesson plans for next month. I'm ALMOST finished with the next chapter. That would put me through January 23... with the exception of the test - that program won't work on my Mac... (or either one of my PCs - it's sooooo old and archaic!)

ABC and New Year's Rockin' Eve did a tribute to Dick Clark so we watched that. They showed clips of what they considered the 30 greatest/most groundbreaking performances on American Bandstand. I honestly remember watching the exact Madonna performance they showed (and my mom watched too and wasn't impressed, LOL). I likely saw the same performances by the Go-Gos, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Blondie and Pat Benatar, too. Lots of good memories of 80s music.

Evening. I think DH and I will be asleep and the kids will be running circles around us at midnight! We watched the ball drop in New York on the internet just in case they decide they are tired! No chance. Happy New Year, Pondies. Here's to a great 2013

I've been taking down my Christmas decorations, outdoor and indoor. Mainly wreaths, mantel garlands, centerpieces. Not too bad as I did not put up the tree. When Steve wakes up he can help me carry it downstairs to the storage room.

I'm going to leave my angels up a few weeks longer. I have some on my foyer table and coffee table -- I like them. My mom had a pretty ivory ceramic angel and I started my collection, building on her one. Mine are all ivory and gold, so they blend in nicely with the sofa/LR and aren't too overtly Christmassy. Anyway I'll get a few more weeks of enjoyment from them.

Yeah I'm not into the heavy drinking parties either.

We went to a friend's and there was drinking, but nobody falling down or obviously drunk, and it was pretty much five couples. The host couple, the hosts' best friends couple, us, another couple we know from the kids school and scouts and bunko, and another couple we know not quite as well, he used to coach DD in soccer back in the day. And three dogs and a cat.

Well, I wound up having a really lovely time once I got out of my crabby-arse mood and got myself over there. Had an interesting surprise when I arrived: apologized to GF who was host(ess)ing at her house for missing 6pm and said it was just a little too tough to get the food together with work that day and she said 'I can't BELIEVE BF did that. I told him to invite everyone at 7.' She'd had to work too and was pretty stunned to get home from work only to find out people were due over in 10min. Knowing I wasn't the only person who got a bit cranky about it did cheer me up a lot. And it really was a fun night. Lots of good friends I adore. I did get home early to be there for midnight with the dogs and cat and slept through the ball dropping.

And HAPPY NEW YEAR PONDIES!!!! I hope you all had a great one!!!!

Party today was fun--saw 3 friends I hadn't seen for over 5 years which was SO wonderful!!!! And had a great time catching up with BFF and her husband! I met their new car (Honda Fit) and we laughed our butts of telling stories on each other.

Driving 100 miles each way in the rain had its hairy moments--2 nasty wrecks on the way back, though drive up was fine as no one was on the road. But what a nice way to see the old year out and start the new one!

That's got to be so tough--that balance between wanting kids to grow responsibly into their independence, wanting them to share and enjoy that time with their friends, and still very much wanting that just-in-case safety for them.

I was on the rigorous 'attend party, sleep, drive 96 miles, attend new year's day party, return home' schedule... but quite sober the whole time!

Seriously, Happy New Year, everyone!

Cool! You'd have to go a bit out of your way though. But then you could take the turnpike down south. Unfortunately, my favorite toll plaza is northwest of Orlando. Okahumpka.

I have some ivory and gold angel ornaments that ended up at my house when my mom and my brother unloaded holiday collections. If I get a picture to you would you be interested in looking and adding to your collection? I'd love for them to have a good home.
