who is jealous???

dd2 called in an "anonymous" complaint to the police department today after I left with her sister to go volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. dad was "supervising" her...

told the cops that i was being abusive and she was going to run away because i didn't let her go see breaking dawn 2 last night and made her stay at home today to do laundry and homework.

i kid you not.

i get to the island and i get a phone call from the police department asking if i have a daughter named dd2... i say yes. i get asked do i know where she is? well, i hope she's at home with her dad - i'm down on the island...

so i try to call home... nobody is answering their cell phones... have to call the neighbors to get dh up from his nap....

dd2 was taking a shower - and when he asked her if she called in.. yep - she's mad at me and wanted to get me in trouble with the cops. (which it didn't)

dh thinks it's funny.

fml.

It seems to be our favorite expression. I figure any context where it works...

That's something my sister hasn't been able to live down. Years ago, when we were all kids, she was over at my grandparents' house. I'm not sure where the rest of us were. Anyway, my sister liked pumpkin pie, but the idea of sweet potato pie put her off. Grandma had made a sweet potato pie. She knew that my sister wasn't keen on the idea of it, so she told my sister it was pumpkin pie. My sister ate it... then at home, she told Mom, "Grandma's pumpkin pie is better than yours." LOL
Mom tried something like that with me when I was home. At breakfast, told me she'd made a special cream cheese blend and let me put it on both halves of bagel. She'd blended the cream cheese with hog nasty goat cheese. I asked her why she'd let me schmear hog nasty anything with goat cheese all over my bagel. She said she thought I wouldn't notice if she didn't tell me what it was.

Um, no.

Sigh. Goat cheese is hog nasty and covering up the taste is like playing Linkin Park for a Beethoven fan and hoping they won't notice the snarling if you don't bring it up.

Can you call the officer back and see if they'll talk to her? Mom had a friend (older than me) whose daughter did that a few years ago. Social services came in and investigated (wasn't as obviously spiteful as this case). I know you wouldn't place her with an abusive foster family on purpose, but I have to admit there's a part of me that wishes she could have to volunteer with foster kids who've been through that and be grounded for the rest of the year.

Trust me I have a pretty sick sense of humor but if it were me, I'd be calling someone with either the police and/or CPS for suggestions on how to handle this in a manner that let her know exactly how serious an issue this is--how much money it can waste for taxpayers, and how much it can tear families apart when false reports are made.

E I'm really sorry about that. I'd be furious. And doubly furious at DH for acting as thought it's some sort of hilarious sitcom joke.

Yeah my mom tried it with liver. Told us all it was steak. My brother and sister ate it, I said "it tastes funny" and wouldn't eat it.

on this and on the issue w/DD2.

I know alcohol is a diuretic, but does it help or hurt blood pressure? Because it sounds like you need a bath and a couple glasses of wine tonight...

Marge and Kathy - your menus sound lovely. Marge - we always like a veggie tray for pre-dinner. Or how about "catered by costco" spanokopita? And serve the deviled eggs as appetizers, too. Though I did just hear a chef on the NPR cooking show "the Splendid Table" say you should never serve appetizers before a big meal like Thanksgiving - people should eat what you've labored over, not fill themselves up on nuts and pickles and olives. (My grandmother's holiday table was never complete without a nut bowl and a pickle/olive assortment ).

E - chocolate pecan pie sounds really good. I always have to make plain old pecan (grandma's recipe from the 30s) for DH and DD and plain old pumpkin (mom's recipe from the 60s - probably straight off the Libby's jar, LOL) for DS... It would be nice if they let me mix it up a little sometimes, but I guess I should be flattered they enjoy how I make our traditional family recipes.

We're having organic heritage turkey ($! splurge, but special deal through our produce delivery co-op), onion-mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing in the crockpot, curried sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, cranberry-orange chutney, and the aforementioned pies.

But we're also having a harvest dinner with all the 4H families on Monday. Twelve families, each of whom are bringing two dishes, so we'll all have tons of variety to sample. The kids will be awarded their pins for the previous year, then they're going to entertain us (hopefully!) with skits, hula hooping, poi ball twirling, cheerleading, singing, and three band songs (eight of them, grades 4-8, are in band). Should be fun!

<<< Loves goat cheese.

Especially with sliced tomatoes and basil on top of Rye Krisp.

Goat cheese is not hog nasty!

Now liver - liver is hog nasty!

Yes - DH came home late Thurs (well, OK, early Fri - 1am) and stays through Tues the 27th. It's working out so much better for him to work from home for a week and a bit so we can have two weekends with him. Liking the new boss, who thinks work-life balance is important!

Oh Alyson that is sweet to hear.

DH and I got on quite well the two weeks in Atlanta without kids and him home all day albeit working (on phone/computer doing work work). He did some legal running around. I stayed "home" and sorted. So now we get to decide where to live a few years down the road.....

Did I tell you I got a job? It's not a living wage by any stretch of the imagination, but it will give us some extra cash. I'm inspecting homes as a sub-contractor (paid per inspection) to an inspection company who contract with a property management company who contract with realtors and mortgage-holders (banks, etc.), LOL. So I'm the lowest rung on the ladder and they pay accordingly. Gets me out of the house, I can do it on my own schedule, and the dog can come with me - so far it's been OK, but I'm still working on streamlining so it doesn't take too much time. I have to pay for gas, and next year (this year I won't likely make enough), my own taxes as a sub. We'll have to see how that part works out - it may not be worth it. A few hundred bucks for xmas and Jan/Feb kids' b'days, though - that will be worth it

I'd rather mostly pick a house, because I can't be toting cutting boards and stuff.... lol

This house needs done what's going to be done, at any rate, and we have a few years to decide.... DH is a lot younger than me.

Washington is nice, LOL.

Off to bed - busy day tomorrow - 4 hrs of house inspections plus Costco plus make our three dishes for the potluck...

Have a nice night!

A few hundred bucks for xmas and Jan/Feb kids' b'days, though - that will be worth it
Ha ha living wage Yeah it's tough out there. My sister was in a spot for awhile where she would have been financially better off if she'd moved - took a job promotion out of area when there weren't any in her area. She Wouldn't tho.... She knew the family and relationship issues, felt she needed to stay close enough to help when needed (and it has been) and with grandkids now too, well, she chose to live frugally on the meager pay and she got by and hung in there for a lot of years before she finally made a move.

I always liked the southeast, the sports there. ACC sports and the Braves. That's home to me. I like the Bay Area though. It's really easy to live here.

But I like the lack of humidity here. So you see, Washington isn't really on my list. Washington is not a state for people who wear glasses and already have trouble seeing and are aging.....

But if we do go that way, I will have to get up to the states out this way before we go.

A driving tour with DH would be nice. Yeah.

I know some couples already know where they want to go. But we both admitted we hadn't come up with a "gotta be there" place.

Up at the crack of dawn for WW. Wish me luck, it is my second week back after a long hiatus and gaining weight back. Per my scale, I'm down at least a pound.

Then later this morning to Odeum in Villa Park for giant craft fair. With new neighbor and a couple walking group ladies.

Leona came over late yesterday afternoon. We went to Sweet Tomatoes for an early dinner, then played in the craft room. We were down there for hours. I did have to remind her of the curfew, LOL
