Santa was very good to our family. Right now I'm testing out one of the presents he left for the four of us to share - a new laptop. So far, it's very nice.

Merry Christmas!

My little sister always sends me a bunch of nice gifts. When I opened one and it was a little ornament of a black lab's head peeking out of a stocking, I burst into tears.

Just read an article--he will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

He was among the first wave of U.S. soldiers to land at Normandy during the D-Day invasion and the only member of his Army unit to survive. He killed several Germans and was wounded in the leg. Later he was bayoneted by a young German soldier whom he killed with a rock. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and survived a massacre of prisoners.

In later years, he refused to discuss the military service for which he was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts.

"Too many bad memories," he told an interviewer in 1997. "I don't want you to see me crying."

I bought a Paula Deen spiral ham this year. At least double the price of the other store brands. Better darn well be worth it.
Probably to pay for all the butter slathered on it????

DH got me a couple of sessions with a personal trainer at the gym.

DD gave me a Tribble. You bop it and it makes Tribble noises and vibrates. rofl She gave DH one also. His is a redhead, mine is a brunette. ha ha ha We had Pippin barking his head off trying to get the Tribbles!! ha ha ha Jump Corgi Jump! Pippin does walk very well on two legs, I've never seen a dog do that this well in person. I mean I've seen trained dogs on TV, but this guy wow. ha ha He's working on a complete 360 spin on two legs now, not quite making it.... lol too funny. I'll miss the little bugger.

There was a pair of slippers from DS. But I had picked them out - as he had to try on the gloves so that I could give him those, also wrapped up. lol He's not needed driving gloves before.

We put bows on the dishwasher and DH's laptop. lol

Um, DH got tons of little things for the kids - ibuprofen, bandages, special scissors, thermometer, sunscreen, and a case to put them in! It's awesome. They were laughing as they were unwrapping. There was way more than that, you get the idea.

Not much candy this year, a few nice pieces of chocolate, no bags of cheap stuff.

It was fun watching the kids open stuff and laugh. Got candles and holders from my sister and a necklace/earring set, and well lots of goodies.

Pippin got a red laser for DD to take to Florida.

DD gave DH a Star Trek bathrobe. OMG. DS saw it and just said, "That's awesome!" ha ha She got it from Think Geek. We do a lot of our shopping there, it seems.....

She gave me a set of Star Trek glasses, 16 oz. tumblers, classic first episode, Episode IV right? Han, Leia, Luke and of course, Darth.

Yes, I use one of the Longaberger Christmas baskets. They've been making a special Christmas Collection basket each year since 1981. This year the Christmas cards are being kept in the 2011 basket, but I've used others in past years. It's the one collection of Longaberger baskets that I still maintain. (I still need to order this year's basket, though.)

And yes, June sounds great!

I have to admit I have a vision of you this time next year, puttering around in your kitchen wearing a t-shirt that says 'I went to Fargo, North Dakota and all I got was this scrumptious ham.'

LULZ!

Tell DH I'll cook a batch and bring them down when you're back East.

I'm just winding down... long day of cooking but very much worth it! Wrose, tell your sister I lit the dining room with her candles--since I just have teeny artificial tree it was lovely to have the spruce fragrance along with the candlelight. She was so sweet--she let me buy a discontinued lantern, one of those where you can put anything between two layers of glass, so I had a matched set to fill with juniper springs and holly leaves (I'd just ordered one and they'd sold out by the time I realized I could do with another one). Meant to punch little real red dots instead of berries but ran out of time.

Molly and the collies had fun romping together out in the yard--they barely made a sound. I was SO proud of them. Although when we let them out the second time Sonny and his cousin Rusty did bark a bit, on the other hand they were out for all of about 7 minutes. How bad is it that I wanted to tell them GOOD BOYS!!! ?

Debbie and John perched on the bar stools and kept me company while I washed the dishes (I don't put the Christmas china or Grandma's silver-ish lovely flatware in the dishwasher). They wanted to dry but I have a folding dish rack as well as the draining rack next to the sink, so no need--I'd cleaned up as I went all day so not much besides dishes and flatware for 3. Sent them home with lots of leftovers. Seven pound ham is a WHOLE lot for 3 people.

Ooof. Can't believe I have to work again tomorrow. I could do with a day just to stay home and digest, LOL.

Anyone want a ham sandwich?

I'm sure they'll be no tribble at all!

Pippin sound hilarious! It sounds like everyone had a lovely Christmas (well, except maybe for E's unstuffed DH).

Sleep well y'all. I'm off to take pups out one last time and see if I can't finish off that Michener novel tonight.

...ask me how much I want to drive uptown in raging monsoon deluge and go to work. Sigh...

On the other hand, I'm pretty hooked on living indoors and regular meals. And I imagine Molly, Allie and Sonny would get a tad cranky if the kibble funds ran out. E you all this evening...

So in latest news. Dh is pissy with me yet again..... I'm batting 1000 aren't I?

The reason this time???? Back in November I made appointments for the girls a haircut over the holidays... This was the first appointment that worked with our crazy schedule over the past month....

Well yesterday he goes, y'all come pick me up from work tomorrow and let's head to Austin overnight.... Um. We have haircuts scheduled for Thursday... Do you want me to try and change them??? He didn't say anything so I didn't fool with it. And like I'm calling m hair dresser on Christmas to reschedule a haircut.... So this morning ad he's leaving I ask do I need to reschedule the haircuts??? He gives me an eat poop and die look and walks out...

On other news. Dd2 and I are getting along. Which I think is one of the things ticking him off... Lol.

We got DH a Disney t-shirt with one of the seven dwarfs on the front. Grumpy. It says "Grumpy by choice." lol

You know, that's a good question; I have some too.

Ugh. Has your weather been nasty like that all day? Be safe.

Rainsong, if you're traveling today, I hope you're safe too. Let us know what's going on with the weather in your area.

Here, it's been alternating between snowing, sleeting, raining, and any mix of the three all day. The ground was already mostly white when I first woke up around 6:45. There's about a 3" layer of stuff on the deck railing. I'm glad I didn't have to go anywhere farther than our mailbox today.

Yes and no.

For the troops to use to write home - no. Because of possible copyright infringement, they don't even want repurposed parts of storebought cards used on the handmade cards. (For example, I can't cut Pikachu off of one of YDS's old leftover birthday party invitations and use that to make a card.)

However, you're welcome to write "Any Hero" notes inside to thank a hero for his/her service, let them know they are being thought of, etc. and send the storebought cards that way. Those cards are then distributed among the soldiers/sailors/etc. who don't get much mail from home, to help boost their morale.

well shucks.

i don't want to fool at all with writing, cutting, thinking of these cards. they are just tons of cards that i had bought many many moons ago before i started stamping.

i wonder who would take them.... hmmm.

they are some good thoughtful ones - especially for like spouses and such.

i wonder why they wouldn't let them use them - i mean it would be like the guys buying the cards and sending them... they just didn't buy them, they were given them...

the full copyright crap is on the card...

anyone know of anyone that would like a bunch of cards - mostly birthday - some thinking of you - some serious - some funny...
