Need to pick up sister at Midway airport today after lunch. Don't like the drive to Midway. Much prefer O'Hare as I know it much better.

Morn...oh afternoon. I have been to the grocery shop, now have everything we need for Christmas. I got there and back home within an hour so was very pleased. Then made 2 batches of fudge, baked a batch of coconut macaroons. The boys are eating lunch then I will start : sausage rolls, mince pies, lemon, and gingerbread biscotti, lemon bars, peppermint bark using broken candy canes from the kids school gingerbread houses. Bread for dinner tonight is baking and I'll also make a celery and potato soup.

We still have to wrap presents, too. At least there aren't many!

Wow- that's a lot!

Not that you have time today, but if you get a chance after xmas, can you share your sausage rolls recipe? I've tried to replicate the ones we had in England without success...

I just have to make almond roca cookies, mop the kitchen, wrap presents, and make cauliflower cheese soup for dinner, so a leisurely day for me

Hi. We're down at Mom and Dad's. We picked up barbecue from King's on our way in yesterday, and had it for supper after we got home from Mass. Then after supper I made some chocolate peanut clusters. Mom and Dad had already roasted the peanuts and skinned them, so I only had to melt the chocolate and stir the peanuts into it and drop the clusters on the tray. Today we've made a batch of blueberry muffins and baked some of my grandma's pecan cookies (Mom had made the dough so it was all chilled properly before baking). We've washed the dining room tablecloth and the kitchen placemats, and I feel like I've done a ton of dishes.

But so far it's been a good visit.

PH, do they still make you go to mass twice when, like this month, Dec. 8th was on a Saturday? You can't go Sat. night and have it count for both?

Very cool, cute, sexy, I love it.

I did not so much love the one DD and I saw yesterday - same exact ad only with Santa, some elves, and Mrs. Claus saying the same thing. We were both appalled.
Ack! I've seen both ads. I thought the Claus ad was funny but uncomfortable. I guess I'm getting to the point where I'm realizing that not being 20 and having a perfect bod doesn't mean you don't want to be close to someone any more. I get where they're trying to go with that, and I think it's cool to go there. On the other hand I don't think I would have made the video even when I was in my 30s and had a much better figure. Given that no one knows where the videos could wind up, I'm not really in favor of anyone sending stuff by phone these days.

For me, the first commercial (non-Santa) was really cute, because hubby is going away on a business trip, and she doesn't want him thinking about anyone else. "Not on the plane" - so he'll be thinking about her ALL the way til he gets to his destination.

It's like the old joke where the couple goes to a party, and after the husband rings the doorbell, she leans over and says, "by the way, I'm not wearing any underwear."

But the Santa one - for one thing, he'll be back in the morning, right? And won't he be too busy to watch a video? And not to mention the creepy factor of Santa and Mrs. Santa "getting it on." ROFL

No NCIS today, we watched Star Trek movies yesterday but today is LOTR on TNT. Of course their commercials are WAY too loud. So I'm submitting a complaint to the FCC.

We saw lightning a little bit ago! And it's been raining all day, sometimes heavy, even by California standards!

Jane knows about northern California rain......

I adore mine--you picked the state bird of both my current state and the one where I last lived. That means a lot.

Here too. Plus with the pond we've got a resident great blue heron, lesser heron, and the occasional egret. We've even had a bald eagle visit!

We also had an osprey who earned the eternal animosity of a neighbor about 5 doors down who built a beautiful koi pond in his back yard and stocked it with gorgeous (and very expensive) mature fish.

Osprey thought it was an all-you-can-eat buffet. I think he ate about $200 worth of gorgeous big fat koi.

BFF called!!!! Big reunion of Charlottesville friends up in Winston for New Year's!!! I'm meeting them for breakfast New Year's Day--I'll be bugging out of New Year's eve party early since I don't want to leave Molly home alone at midnight. Fireworks freak her out, and while she hasn't had a seizure for a while, thank goodness (and knock wood), I don't want to leave her alone for the bedlam.

One of my neighbors 2 doors down likes to set off an entire artillery's worth of fireworks on every occasion from 4th of July to New Year's to Columbus Day. Not something where I want to leave Molly by herself.

In any case I can't WAIT to see everyone--several friends I haven't seen for years will be there!!! And the dogs are invited! We'll wake up and hit the road early!

I was trying to get last batch of cards ready to beat the mailman's arrival (missed him) then cleaning.

Then cleaning more today. I'm actually scrubbing the dust and dog hair off the blinds behind the couch. Sigh.

But the house will be ready for Christmas with Molly and the Collies!
