I don't know why the formula is like that - the teacher has to be paid whether there are 22 or 25 kids in her class on any given day, right?
We have a new principal this year and she's wonderful from all interactrions I've had and heard about. A few weeks ago she posted on the marque how much money was lost based on unexcused absences. Over $20,000 just in like 5 weeks or so. I think a lot of people don't realize the state pays the school based on the kids. We took Zach out the other day to go to Jacob's holiday show but I made sure he was there for attendance and about an hour of work. They need that money. So many of the programs are run solely on volunteer time and donations.

Very cool, cute, sexy, I love it.

I did not so much love the one DD and I saw yesterday - same exact ad only with Santa, some elves, and Mrs. Claus saying the same thing. We were both appalled.
The man's expression is classic! DH and I really think tha'ts a clever commercial.

Oh I didn't work that early shift. In fact they also cut down the other one that was WAY too long. I only worked 5:30-1. Still not a walk in the park but better than working almost 12 hours.

Since I wasn't working then at all on Sunday we drove down to see my inlaws and the SIL family. It was nice. Tense but nice. SIL isn't getting along with the folks. #drama

Nothing out of the ordinary Friday at the school, other than really somber parents and extra long extra tight hugs. There was a message from the district stating they have high quality training and plans in place and will of course be looking into making any changes that might help even more, that there were people who we could talk to if we needed it, there could be arrangements thru school for the kids, things like that. I haven't told the kids andything and wonder what Zach may hear today at school. The part that I think will be scary for them is the randomness. I'm not sure what I'll say if anything. We'll see how the next few days unfold. WE've been away from tv lately so they havent' really had chance to come across anything

I think it's totally cool you were able to do that.

I do tailor my cards a little bit, I look for the cards that use the word "Christmas" for my more religious extended family and friends, even though the card might just be a red ornament; I don't go out of my way to make Nativity cards, for example. This year, some of my glitter snowflake cards had blue backgrounds, so I sent those to the ones on the list that I knew were Jewish!

Atheist friends were more likely to get cards that did not use the word "Christmas" - not that they would care - but I have a lot of cards that just say Happy Holidays or something about the Season, so......

I make usually no more than 8 of any one card. I made 24 glitter snowflake cards but varied the background colors. I made 24 ornament cards but am not enamored of them but I used up some stuff. lol There is some variety in the dp, brads, and ribbon but essentially the same card design.

I seem to have a few left over this year. Like 20 or so. Wow. That's never happened before. There are several designs (3 of 8 each, I think) that I didn't even get into. w00t!

I might end up finding more names from DH; he hasn't gone through the list yet, but that would be a nice start on next year's cards.

Taking a half day floater tomorrow. Use the floater or lose it.

So in the afternoon I'm going to bake the SU shortbread cookies and stamp the snowflakes on them. I'll package some up in a nice tin for Leona's dad. What else do you give an 85 year old? He likes things not overly sweet so these will fit the bill and look festive.

Just a quick hello. Marge, I have all your tags hanging on the tree. I've been baking biscotti this evening. I made a gingerbread one and also a lemon using homegrown lemons. OMG though I say so myself they are divine. Not at all sweet and the lemon has a very subtle taste. I'll put some icing decoration on them tomorrow. When I bake the almond ones. Shelled a bunch of almonds and toasted them before shutting off the oven for the night. Tomorrow I am also helping our 5th grade class make gingerbread houses with their 1st grade buddies . Wednesday is the same with 3rd grade, then Thursday I have regular class time then helping at the Jingle Jog before the kids finish for the break at 11.35. Phew.

Hummers yes cards no. We have brown and black for the most part so if you see a robin it's exciting. Once I watched a woodpecker for a few minutes in my mom's backyard.

The woodpeckers use the metal surrounds of the chimneys around here in the spring for their mating "pecking". First time I heard it I was alone in the house and swore someone was breaking in.

A phoebe. Where else do you see a black and white bird with such clear demarcation?

Oh yeah, the dishwasher installer arrived and spent about an hour getting the old one out and hooking up the new one. I've been filling it up all day. He was an older guy and from Ireland! Holy cow as soon as he started to talk, I asked him where he was from!

You know what's funny though? When I started telling DH about the different hummingbirds, he stopped me... he was like What? Seems he thought the Ruby-throated hummingbird he was seeing in Georgia was the only hummingbird there was. Like "hummingbird" wasn't a class but just one bird like "cardinal" or something. He was shocked! lol I told him how I'd read that as you get closer to the tropics there are hundreds of kinds!

I do find it weird that we don't have Cardinals west of the Rockies.

We have sparrows with black and white stripes on their heads!

I took a half day (floater) today.

Have the second tray of SU sugared shortbread cookies in the oven. (Stamped with snowflakes). They'll be a gift for Leona's dad -- in a round tin with cardinals on it!

On the way home I stopped at the bank, then for a haircut. OMG the young girl butchered the cut. Choppy, hard angles, one side an inch shorter on the ear than the other. The senior person there (maybe 23? only 2 girls were working) had to come re-cut it. It is way short.

I was very upset.

They did not charge me. Good thing, too. And right before the holidays....
