I LOVED Lord of the Rings but I think I loved the original Hobbit book too much to like the movie as much. I'd heard Smaug had a lot of changes from the book so not sure how I'll feel about that.

I should make the rounds next week, taking some stuff to the local thrift resale store. I have way too many Christmas mugs and I don't love them all so I can give some away.

Also some odd old candle holders I don't mind giving away.

Once I heard that there are LOTS of big spiders in the Hobbit, like ONE big spider in LOTR wasn't enough, if I had any doubt, I knew I'd not see it in the theater. But to be honest, I didn't see any of them in theaters. The rest of the family did, but I waited.

It sure was interesting how the delivery companies got overwhelmed the last week. I got my sister's box yesterday, and she sweetly waited to open her box til I got mine. So we shared a late Christmas.

DH went into work for a half day today, stayed home yesterday. GT plays a bowl game Monday at noon so I'm sure he won't bother going in that day!

Well, after you talked about liking the peanuts at Five Guys, I figured you needed some good, fresh Virginia peanuts.
I'm glad you and your DH are enjoying them!

It really is worth seeing. The dragon is astounding as are the scenes in Laketown. And Gandalf is great (as usual).

I think Jane missed our big RumChata discussion this fall. Jane -- they brew it in WI - in a little town called Pewaukee outside of Milwaukee. Drat, if we had only known, it could have been another road stop. Think Baileys consistency/texture but with a cinnamon toast/creamy flavor. Really yummy.

Weather will be above freezing today

We're going to DeKalb for lunch with Tom. Hope to stop at Michael's there, after lunch. There is a convenient one in DeKalb, but really nothing convenient to my house which is kinda funny. I'm looking for clipboards with removable hardware.

One of my co-workers had gone to Colombia over Thanksgiving to visit a friend...she gave us all these 1 lb. bags of Juan Valdez coffee for Christmas. I opened it; it was beans -- I don't have a grinder. Yesterday when I was out and about I picked one up.

Having freshly ground Juan Valdez coffee right now, hand delivered from Colombia

I gave my co-workers different flavors of homemade jam from the Madison farmers market. Large jars, with a pretty diamond pattern on them. Tied a ribbon and put a gift tag stamped with the Stampscapes covered bridge image and die cut it into an ornament shape for the tag.

Another co-worker gave us 'Christmas honey" that she got downtown at the Christkindl market. Another gave us a gift card to Naf Naf (a midEastern Pita place that we like to go to at lunch). Another gave us wine...and of course the Colombian coffee...

I guess food is seen as a safe, unisex work gift

I wonder what role the weather played. Lots of very very vile weather and outright dangerous weather over those last few days before Christmas.

So sweet that you and your sister both waited to open your presents together. That makes me all verklempt!

But can the giant spiders hear the color aqua?

Oh wait... different entertainment experience...

I LOVED that they gave Glorfindel's role in Fellowship book to Arwen in the movie. I wish there had been more butt-kicking girl roles in the movies when I was growing up. I mean, I think I turned out pretty independent and still liked a lot of typical guy stuff like dinosaurs and whales and science anyway (and ultimately cars and rock climbing and being outside a lot) but it would have been nice to feel like a bit less of an oddball for loving all that stuff and wanting to do things for myself instead of having some guy take care of me.

I had some purist friends who were outraged by Arwen's role in the movie but I thought it was a GREAT call on Jackson and the scriptwriters' part. Interesting to read your take on it because my sister just saw the movie and HATED the Tauriel character.

Yup, I did miss it. Can't complain about job these days given how fond I've become of living indoors and regular meals, but sad to have missed that conversation...

Does this mean we might have to go back to WI one day??? Please don't throw me in the brier patch!!!!

Well, I've got a bit more work to finish up today, then off Mon-Weds. I had 2 days off left and needed to take them before the end of the year or lose them. So I'll have a long weekend finally to clean the house, go through stuff and get all the donations in before the 31st, except maybe for the couch, which will have to wait till my friends with a truck get back from their holiday visits.

New Year's morning I'll head up the road a couple of hours to meet group of friends from when I lived in VA. They get together at another friend's house just up the road for New Year's Eve every year. I'll miss New Year's--as terrified as Molly is of fireworks, and with her seizures, I'm not leaving her alone on a night with all those loud BANGS. Since I go home early from whatever party one of my friends here has, I can wake up and get up the road by the time my friends are waking up for breakfast.

Thank heaven they don't want to eat breakfast at 6am, lulz!

I just wish we had the right kind of grinder to make peanut butter. I'm not sure if a food processor would work.

I'd send you some fresh homemade peanut butter, Jane.

Ziva, like V, is made of awesome.

If I could look like anyone on the planet, I'd look like the actress who plays her. Cote de Pablo is just gorgeous, but not in that Hollywood, cookie cutter way. There's something very fierce about her, and very strong about her features that makes her so much more beautiful to me than all those delicate-boned pixie people we seem so fond of here. She's just seems to have so much going on on the inside, and that seems to shape her looks, too.

Oh yeah! And even if it's something one doesn't personally like, generally you know somebody close that will. I think it's neat because they could have just all got Starbucks gift cards. Which is fine, but not so fun.

They said the weather had an affect in some areas. And even if it doesn't look like your path of mail was affected, if you take some vehicles out of commission because they are stuck in some weather, that has an impact, and of course, we all know they don't take a straight line, they go to distribution hubs, so ....

But basically the late surge in online orders and shipping was more than anybody had planned for.

Next year, Thanksgiving is one day earlier than it was this year. So - I think I'll try to be more ready. But I say that every year. I like to pick up stuff all year and I still failed to get enough variety for my little sister this year. We like to send silly stuff sometimes, ya know? Like she send DH two cool flip books, you know, you flip the pages to see the picture move? One is on the history of flight, so goes from old plane to Space Shuttle and the other is on the Apollo missions! Inexpensive but cool.

I had some purist friends who were outraged by Arwen's role in the movie but I thought it was a GREAT call on Jackson and the scriptwriters' part. Interesting to read your take on it because my sister just saw the movie and HATED the Tauriel character.
I don't remember who is who other than the main people but I always like the female in LOTR who killed that "thing" while saying, "I am no man!"

Ha ha yeah. Sounds like great plans, Jane. I'm going to get some stuff done too.

The GT game is at noon (12:15) Monday so DH will be home that day too. I want to get some stamping done.

I think I'll do a LOT of stamping in January - it's Gibbs month on my NCIS calendar. Each month has a large photo of one cast members along with some small photos, but interspersed months have group shots. Gibbs is January.

Interesting.

I usually pick up presents while traveling so not much shopping after turkey day for me. And what little there is, I do after Christmas due to wacky family celebration. This year with family's agreement I donated to a food bank in their name instead of buying lots of presents.

Yeah I typically don't get much after Thanksgiving either, as I'm trying to wrap and mail stuff as early as possible. I had some stuff done well in advance, like the BFFs gifts. DH never told me what he wanted so I made him some coasters. lol That was last minute. But it was better than if he'd actually come up with something the 23rd and I had to hit the malls! ACK!!!

I stayed home Christmas week, I will need to go out Monday for milk. I guess I'll go early before the Georgia Tech game.

HOLD THE PHONE! Are these ones I can glue pretty plates to to make dessert stands?

I mean uh hi, I've missed you all and have lots to catch up on. |Now about those candle holder thingies

It sure was interesting how the delivery companies got overwhelmed the last week. I got my sister's box yesterday, and she sweetly waited to open her box til I got mine. So we shared a late Christmas.
The early ice storms rally janked up the shipping companies. If anyone was really tracking heir stuff they'd see odd routed and most placed placed banners on their pages that there would be delays some as early as Dec 15. It was a bad year all around. Oh and then you have the people who have very little desire to read and comprehend your shipping policy and hours and order stuff Friday night next day and wonder why it's not there Saturday morning.
