PH that might be it, aging. I've been noticing for about ten years now that it's hard for me to hear someone in a noisy room. No not hard, impossible. I think back to when we'd go to some noisy bar and sit at a table and talk loudly to each other, no problem. Now, you might as well skip it, I don't lip read and I can't hear a thing. I just can't separate it. First the eyes go, then the ears. lol

It was 70 here today. Nice. Except this high pressure is making every day a Spare the Air day. Bad pollution.

USPS failed today. DD got a notice in the box to pick up a box at the post office - on Thursday. Her friend OVERNIGHTED IT - no signature required - and the *@&!^% mailman sticks a notice in there instead of walking up to the door.

And my sister's box mailed last Monday, has not arrived. Meh. But she's upset, I wish it arrived just for her. I told her not to bother spending on priority, that it would get here. So it's my fault, really. lol

Yeah, that's what I'll end up doing. Although since the frames were pretty well cleared out of the store where I bought them, I might have to try a different store.

I've sent a message to the seller. Here's hoping this issue will get resolved quickly.
Said seller company is in Montana, which appears to mostly be in the Mountain time zone. I sent my message to them around 3:30 my time/1:30 Mountain time on Friday afternoon.

I didn't receive a reply until 2:30 my time Monday afternoon.
"I am so sorry for your inconvenience. I've sent another to you USPS priority mail [delivery confirmation number]. I hope that it makes it to you on time."

Ferreals. Like I was really going to get it in time for Christmas any more. (eta: If they had sent it out Friday afternoon, it would have had a chance. Maybe even if they'd sent it out Saturday. But Monday? Nope.)

NOT happy.

This has just been a weird season for ordering things online. I've had either excellent results or crap.

First it was the set of four knives I ordered where they sent me only one knife.
Then there was the deal with the one package being diverted to Indianapolis.
Now there's the ornament mishap.

And of course there's the frame fiasco, although that wasn't online.

Dang. I'm about ready for Christmas to be over. LOL

Hopefully frames will get restocked quickly too, maybe next week, since you missed the holiday anyway. What a pain.

Yeah and you know what, stores might see an upsurge in real person buying next year, with all the unhappy stories I'm hearing this year. It's bad enough when YOU mail it and it doesn't make it in time, but when you order online, you're already giving up on the gift wrapping (assuming you are sending it to someone not nearby), and know they have a brown box under the tree ... or under the New Year decorations!

No, no. You just have to look at it from a different perspective--this is the Christmas you will remember due to all the mishaps! And five years from now, you'll laugh about it.

Everything will be fine, Ph. And if not, have another glass of eggnog.

So I am going to work from home. I have to draft high level requirements for a global navigation change project so that's a good thing to do from home.
Yikes Marge. That might be too chilly even for me. I WFH'd today too except I had so much I wanted to get done that I did not have everything cleaned in time for the party. New neighbors came over with all 4 kids and the kids were great--they put all my stamping stuff in bags and stashed it in my office so I had a clean dining room table for dinner!

Traditional Jewish Christmas is usually observed on Christmas Day but we did it on Christmas Eve since most folks had plans tomorrow. Really fun dinner, everyone asked if I'm going to make it a tradition. Affirmative, Houston, we are go for new tradition! And I have lots of leftover chinese in the fridge if anyone wants some Szechuan tofu for breakfast.

Ya know, I forgot to mention the Christmas cards in that litany of mishaps.

I guess it kind of ties in with the notion of 13 being an unlucky number, since it's 2013.

Don't worry, I'm already starting to shake my head and say "oh well!" about it.

As for the eggnog - sorry. No can do. I don't drink stuff that smells like it's been made with ERK's inlaws' mayonnaise.

I did have second thoughts about using it in my reply about the mayonnaise, but none of the other smileys were as appropriate.

Well, dinner went well and I am not doing any more cooking except here in our little RV. Happy Christmas Pondies. Hope Santa brings you happiness and presents. I'll be hoping Santa finds a better way in than the poo pipe ( as DH suggested). The evening went downhill from there.

I do love eggnog, but not with alcohol. Didn't get any this year. There's one brand that makes a very good "light" eggnog, but I didn't make the effort to find it this year.

Are you able to share them here?

YDS came up with a cute one today while we were making the snickerdoodle dough. He said, "Of course we need TWO teaspoons of cream of tartar. If the recipe called for only one, it would be 'cream of tar'."

So I have a spiral ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and jello salad. Leona is bringing appetizer, bread/rolls and dessert. The jello salad is made and in the fridge. The tablecloth is ironed and the table set. It's my mom's embroidered poinsettia cloth that she bought in Honduras in 1967. One of my favorite cloths. No fancy centerpiece, just red candles. I do need to mop and vacuum still.

Then, I need to make the sugared shortbread for her Dad. The dough got mixed last night and it is in the fridge, I just have to roll, stamp and bake. Since it is a gift, the pressure's on....I'll tackle them soon.
It sounds like a lovely dinner, Marge.

I'll keep behind a half dozen or so as a backup plan for dessert, along with ice cream. Leona is a sweetie but she tends to experiment with her baking. She tries to substitute things (like beets for sugar) and she cuts the fats and sugars way back. I get that it is healthier but in baking it sometimes affects the texture, etc, especially for a holiday dinner. So if anyone doesn't want her mystery cake I'll have ice cream and cookies in reserve. And I can truthfully say they were just left from what I made for her Dad. On the other hand, sometimes her experiments turn out really good. So it will be a surprise tomorrow.

Jane met her and knows she has the biggest, warmest heart possible -- so we take beet cakes in stride, lol
Please send Leona all my best!

I have cut it off too, especially if it was a decent hunk of cheese and just a bit needed cutting.

I wouldn't do it with bread tho.

I think it's a food shopping complusive habit. I found shrimp in the freezer from January which were sold having already been frozen and defrosted once before. Just told DH not to ask for shrimp. At least we're having some entertainment! And, yes, I've cut the mould off cheese before, too. Not risking it here! As Rainsong said, it will be a memorable Christmas to look back on.

OH! I haven't yet shared with y'all the recent conversations that will most certainly earn me "Mom of the Year" awards from both of my sons.

1. ODS's story: This month, he's been attending church with his girlfriend. She plays the piano for some of the service music, and they played a clarinet & flute duet before the service one Sunday. I guess in her church they don't spend as much time talking about Advent like in the Catholic church because they've already been using Christmas music. A week ago Sunday he came home and told me how the young children sang some songs together as part of the service. I couldn't help it - I asked, "Oh, like the dreidel song?"

2. YDS's story: A couple months ago his girlfriend gave him some cologne. YDS wanted some new clothes for his birthday at the beginning of December, so DH and I took him out on a shopping spree and to dinner one night. We were at Kohl's, and they'd already started putting out gift sets of cologne and perfume for the early Christmas shoppers. YDS saw a gift set of the stuff GF gave him. After texting her a photo of it (gotta love smart phones ) he asked if he could buy it and reimburse us for it. DH agreed. A little while later, after YDS and GF had been texting back and forth, he got a huge grin on his face and told me, "She says I'm going to smell like a god."
And my son's dear, loving mother responded, "I hope she isn't dyslexic."

Under the circumstances, they chose wisely.

Although I hear 2009 was an excellent year for mayonnaise...

Yup... I always loved that line from the Bruce Springsteen song: one day we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny.

That's just AWESOME.

I will celebrate by singing the dreidel song!

I didn't want to say "wine" 'cause it could be misconstrued that I thought you were "whining."

Rainsong--will shave cheese but passes on out-of-date mayo.

Speaking of the dreidel song, we had Jewish Christmas dinner at my house tonight. Strictly speaking, Jewish Christmas is celebrated on the 25th but since most of my friends had plans, we moved the feast up to tonight. Everyone brought their favorite Chinese takeout dish and we served it on my Christmas china.

One couple bought sake.

It was a really fun evening!

Just finished cleaning up before I sat down to catch up so I'm about ready to visit the zzzzzs.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful day with the families, and send all of you all my love.
