I have 17 cards leftover, for next year.

So I should make 70 more, I signed up for 8 a month in the Christmas Card Challenge thread, so 9 months of that should be enough!

Because he's so young, they will be very cautious. And with the Olympics in mid February, I'm wondering if they'll just keep him out until after that.

(The League's 1,230-game schedule will pause from Feb. 9-25, 2014, while NHL players comprise the majority of the rosters of the national teams competing in Sochi for Olympic gold. The NHL season resumes Wednesday, Feb. 26 with a slate of four games.)

Actually, it's not even all that elaborate, really. There are just several layers that took longer than I anticipated to stick together. Because the card base is dark I had to include a liner inside for the sentiment and signing the cards. So it's been time consuming.

But I have only 10 more to complete! All the pieces parts are done; I think I need to sign 5 more inserts and then assemble all 10 and stuff them in the envelopes.

Whew!

Sigh.

Postage to Europe is $1.10.

That could be made up by using two regular first class stamps at 46 each, plus an 18 stamp.

I have plenty "forever" stamps that would count as the 46-ers.
And I have quite a few 17 stamps.
But I have no 1 stamps nor any 18 stamps.

Oh well. I'm going to need to go inside the post office tomorrow anyway, so I'll just have to have one of the clerks process the postage for my two cards that need to cross the Atlantic.

At last though they have made the overseas stamps "forever" too. As I'm about to leave!

Yeah I bought a whole sheet of those, we send four cards overseas, I think, and I do a couple birthdays during the year. Now those new forever ROUND 1.10 stamps are COOL. And I have extras.

One thing I didn't realize, when you schedule home pick-up, is that if you put your own stamps on the package (because you happen to have them), if it's over 13 ounces, your postman will bring the package back the next day and you have to TAKE IT TO THE POST OFFICE.

I understand why - it's over the magic limit and I didn't click the think saying it was safe.

So my mailman took the package from me on Thursday, and handed it back on Friday. Since I wanted DD to get it before Christmas, I DROVE to the post office and got there at 4:45, 15 mins. before closing, and had to pay more to send it. SIGH. Next time, I'll print it. I didn't want to waste these stamps - cos they drew lines through them - so I kind of had no choice.

I {heart} the paying for postage online option. I've been doing that for the packages I send to OWH. Depending on the size of the package, it's usually about 15 cents to a dollar cheaper to print online. My 5" Xyron is perfect for making the labels sticky after I print them.

So how do I know it's time to stop with the cards and go to sleep?

First off, I'd counted wrong in my previous post. I had 12 more to do.

I'd been signing the inserts first, before assembling the cards. I used up the ones I'd written yesterday, and counted up how many more I needed, and signed just that many. (I always plan to have extra cards in case DH comes up at the last minute and asks "Do you have a Christmas card we can send to so-and-so?")

I got down to having two cards left to assemble and realized I had three signed inserts sitting on my desk.

Which meant that there was one card sealed in its envelope that wasn't signed.

Face.Palm.

Thankfully, I was able to narrow it down to the previous three cards I'd finished, so I just had to reopen those three envelopes to find it. Of course it was in the third one I opened.

I'm going to sleep. See y'all tomorrow... which is already today here.

I don't get how anyone could ever say that, let alone tweet it. Especially someone in PR. She comes across as incredibly arrogant, oblivious to human suffering, and pretty much like a racist pig who's full of herself.

You know, I totally get that we have free speech and our right to say any stupid or offensive thing we like short of yelling 'fire' in a crowded theatre or making outright threats is protected--as it should be. But that doesn't come with a guarantee that people will adore and support whatever arrogant or offensive thing comes out of our mouth or smartphone when we exercise that right.

I LOVE the round stamps too!!! I guess they're having some fun now that the stamps are stickers and you don't have to punch them out and lick them.

I don't know either. I had four to send from Anchorage but they had the tail end of a sheet left, so I bought the 6 on the sheet so I'd have a couple of extras. Great minds...

Most stamp sheets are 20 stamps though so I'd start my guessing there.

For the round international stamps, for Christmas, they had them in a wreath design. So cute!! But they had run out and I had to get the "regular" round ones (a globe or round Earth I think)

Usually they say that you're not supposed to use tape over the bar code for delivery confirmation. That's why I started using the Xyron for the labels.

There were 10 of the festive wreath stamps on the sheet. I don't usually send more than three things overseas each year, but I went ahead and bought the whole sheet since they'll be good "forever".

And ALL of my Christmas cards are mailed! Woo-hoooooooooooo!

Although I do feel a twinge of guilt about dropping one family from the list this year. The mom and I still chat whenever we run into each other, but our same-age sons haven't stayed close friends like they were in elementary school. I'm still toying with throwing one more card together to get in the mail to them tomorrow. I also have to admit that I like getting their Christmas mail because their letters are usually pretty entertaining. One year they did a poem, and another year they mentioned the different themes they brainstormed first, and it's just always pretty amusing.

You have to set up an account at usps.com but that's pretty easy. Then it'll walk you through the steps for creating a label. You can choose to pay with a credit card or through PayPal and go through the pertinent steps for that. Somewhere along the way - can't remember if it's before or after payment - you can preview the label before you print it. Once you've paid, you can print the label and then stick it on your package.

If you're doing a bunch of mailings at one time you can choose to print two labels on one sheet of paper. I rarely have more than one package to mail at a time, so I print it so it does the label on one half of the sheet and then a receipt on the other half.

Assuming that you'd set this up with your home address - it'll save that as the default for your return address each time. You can also save the addresses of the people you mail to frequently to an address book so you don't have to type them out every time.

It's been a long but productive day. YDS had his monthly orthodontist checkup this morning, then after that the two of us finished up the Christmas shopping. At least I sure hope we're finished, LOL. On the way to the orthodontist I dropped off all the Christmas cards that stay stateside, and on the way back I went in to get the international stamps. I also had a package to send; I was returning a pair of shoes I'd ordered and had to use their return label and couldn't pre-pay the postage online.

I also made a run to the bank to deposit some checks we'd received.

Now I'm debating what to do first - sort laundry, wrap presents, or make chocolate peanut clusters.
