Sorry to hear about the family with the fire. Thank heavens they are safe.

Oh PH. I know how that feels. One of my bunko friends - mom and dad and daughter - lost their house a few years ago. They have a pool and apparently the chemicals outside combusted, the flames caught the eaves, and the fire was in the roof. Dad was up in the middle of the night with an upset tummy and saw the flames reflected across the street. They lost one pet. And everything else but their lives.

They invited friends over for the razing of the house later, we all sat out on the street (cul de sac) and watched. Then they had a new home built. They had good insurance, were in an apt. for awhile, paid a little extra and got a larger home (first one was teeny). Very nice, great for entertaining, which they love.

So things are okay now, years later, but wow. It was in late October, a week before Halloween, when it happened. Just so devastating.

Hugs to you and them. Good for you helping. If they have to do inventory, they might want help for that. My friend had a bunch of people come over one day, they had to write down everything left, for insurance. Lots of detailed work and happy for the help.

More hugs to you.

Hmm, don't mean for that to sound presumptuous - I don't know how they feel, never having had a fire, but I know how it feels to have your friend lose everything.

Hi all.
PH so sorry to hear about your neighbors. And I saw in the news about a gas line explosion too? Not sure where compared to you but wow, the pics were incredible. Reminded me of the San Bruno blast

I hadn't thought about things like that. That's a good suggestion. Thank you.

ODS doesn't think any of his shirts would fit the son. I wasn't sure if they would. (I was thinking of marching band event t-shirts that ODS doesn't really wear any more, to replace ones that the other boy may have had.)

The gas line explosion was in West Virginia, near Charleston, so a good three hours away from here. I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been checking some of the local news stations' websites for info about the family we know. (Not neighbors, just friends.)

surgery on thursday supposedly i'll be at work on friday - though i'll probably be in a heap load of pain. fun. i'll be in a semi-driving boot for 2 weeks. we have exams the next week so i can sit and prop it up no worries. no travel over the holidays - which is one of hte reasons i did the surgery when i did it - didn't want to have to deal with momster b'itching we weren't coming to see her. we were thinking of a cruise due to our 15th anniversary but couldn't figure out when or where or what to do with the girls. so surgery it is!
I hope it goes well, E.

Allergic reaction to stainless steel does not sound like much fun. Can you go for a delayed cruise after you recover?

I'd offer to order from you but I'm keeping my friend in San Antonio going so she gets my order. She's thinking of dropping though--even with me ordering now and then she doesn't get enough stuff any more.

I think I'm kind of in Marge's boat--I've kept up with the new colors but I've kept so many stamps that not too many whimper like they used to for me to get them--or if they do I have something from 5 years ago that's so similar I can't see needing another set.

Anyway, I'm glad you have a good reason to stay away from momster. Not glad that you have to have surgery again, though. I hope it all goes smoothly so you can recover quickly.
When I was all hopped up on fertility drugs and couldn't take Advil OR the sinus stuff that made my wretched sinus headaches go away, I'd start thinking 'the little rat better appreciate this.' Of course being hopped up on fertility drugs does not do much for your disposition even before you get a wretched sinus headache.

Codeine... yeah, that's about the only good thing about getting that horrible asthmatic bronchitis that gets me every winter. It still hurts to cough, but at least I don't give a rat poop.

Oh--does the snow stop at the same altitude as the Saguaro? It was so weird how you all had them on one side of town and not the other.

Turns out Dad's passport was taken, too, so that's a federal crime.

The only way any of it will help is if they find something specific (tv or laptop with serial number - I don't get the impression they look very hard, regardless) or if the same crew is caught - there's been a rash of robberies in the area.
I hope they nail the destructive little parasites. I hope they drop them in a hot cauldron. It just makes me so angry that people do this.

I've seen a quilt like that! They're absolutely wonderful!

Unfortunately I'm the person who takes shirts with missing buttons up to the wonderful Korean alterations shop and pays to have them sewn back on so I think if I tried to make one it would take me about 2300 years.

Although Bo you'd be proud of me--I have 4 or 5 shirts and a pair of shorts with buttons that fell off and I haven't taken them in because I'm thinking I might actually try to sew them on myself this time.

Of course they've been sitting, neatly folded, on the chair in my bedroom since, um... July?

Too much fun!

Eljo's was the super preppie store on the Corner by the University. It's where I learned to dress, LOL!

I showed up there dressing like your typical NYC kid in the 70s... oxford cloth shirt, painter's pants and Pumas and left 11 years later dressing like an unfortunate collision between Ralph Lauren and Jerry Garcia, according to my friend Jim, who is now the curator of a museum, LOL. But in between I became infatuated with dressing like a total preppie... tortise rim glasses, headbands, fair isle sweaters, striped oxford cloth shirts... I would have terrified you. Actually I kind of confused people because I looked like I just got done voting for Reagan and in reality I wanted to save the whales and liberate the campesinos.

There's Radiology, doctors and the hospital. Each are billed separately. Want to see?

Before insurance.

The radiology bill outside of the hospital was just $46, not sure what that was for, exactly.

The doctors bill was for $1084.

The hospital bill was for $2,153.35.

Add them up and that's what you'd pay to go to the ER in the middle of the night without insurance.
When Mittens started going on about how poor people with no insurance could go to the emergency room I swear I wanted to strap him to the roof of an ambulance in a dog crate.

Oh how awful--PH and Wrose how terrible for both families.

My parents' old house caught fire when stepdad had refinished some furniture and put the rags in the garbage can which was up against the side of the house. It had been a hot day and evidently the solvents somehow combusted and smoldered and in the middle of the night the house caught fire. Stepdad BARELY made it out. The phone line melted while he was calling 911.

I hope their missing cat got out and ran off--and that it comes back ok. That's just heartbreaking to go through so close to Christmas.

V!!! I didn't even think to check the door!!! I wasn't expecting anything until Friday or Monday!!!

It's JUST GORGEOUS!!! How incredibly beautiful!!! I won't put the tree-topper up this year--Allie bean is still batting things so I just put up my teeny weenie tree on the ledge between the dining room and big open room at the back of the house. But the little tree has blue and white lights on it for Hanukkah so the skirt is PERFECT!!! I'll take a picture tomorrow!

I'm all verklempt--seriously V, that means SO much to me. Thank you with all my heart. It really is a Christmanukkah present!!

When I was between jobs 2 1/2 years ago and had to drop Debbie said she'd get me a few goodies from the new catalog if I'd cut paper for her classes (she does SU full time). We had so much fun getting together every week that we've kept it up ever since. Of course this year my big expensive hobby was an attorney so it came in handy again.

E guess who's curled up by my feet in the office?

I'll bet Sonny and Shadow could get into all sorts of trouble together, and Molly would just egg them on.

Well now that I've had anything but laryngitis of the fingers I think I'm going to turn in.

Marge, good luck later and everyone else, good night!

V, I will be dreaming the happiest blue and silver dreams you can imagine!

I think I'm kind of in Marge's boat--I've kept up with the new colors but I've kept so many stamps that not too many whimper like they used to for me to get them--or if they do I have something from 5 years ago that's so similar I can't see needing another set.
I see gorgeous flower sets and think, but that old one I have looks almost exactly the same!!!!

We are definitely getting less each quarter, and that's okay. Every quarter I wonder how many more I'll be active. No biggie. I'm not working it, just getting the discount. At some point, I'll assess papers and anything I might want to stock up on and let it go.

Hey you're working full time now. Of course your stamping will drop off.

I told DD to ask you to show her your stamping stuff so she feels at home. HA HA HA

Oh did we tell the Pondies she's going to stop by to see you on her drive east????

I think I'll try one more event and order in January and then let that get me as far as it will. I have plenty of stuff to use for years.

Oh man, V, did the same thing to me.

I did look it up when I saw the article, on google maps.
