I had to google for other cast members because two of them looked real familiar. The one not listed on IMDB was Alan Ruck, one of the familiar ones. Turns out he was Cameron.

But what I know him from is Star Trek: Generations. Capt. Harriman. He was the Capt. of the Enterprise when Kirk got killed.

Seems like everything leads back to Star Trek for you!!! ROFLOL!

But yes - Alan Ruck was Cameron in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I figured you'd get a kick out of that!

It is RAINING boys and girls.

By California standards, it's a friggin downpour.

By Florida standards, meh, it's raining.

Book club was tonight. "Sandcastle Girls". Worth reading; it is about the Armenian genocide.

Last one of the year (we skip December). The hostess had little mini bundt cakes for everyone and we pretended it was for my birthday

I looked the other day and there were like still 99 people on the wait list for the 57 copies of the Jack Reacher book in my library system.

Hello! We're in the great state of Texas. Had no phone/internet for 3 days and it was so good. Will check in as and when we can. Having a great time though and settling into RV living. Small spaces, small cooker, small fridge but it works.

I think Peoria itself was pretty much okay, but just east of it got hit bad.

Good to hear from you, ERK.

I had bought some burlap at JoAnn's a couple weeks ago. Just finished cutting (and fringing) it for a table runner for Thanksgiving. Also bought some sage green burlap that I cut in long 2 inch strips and fringed. I'm going to tie them around the napkins like a giant ribbon.

More of the working than making cards.

I had two full days of subbing for one of the preschool aides Monday and Tuesday because of a death in her family. She needed a sub for Wednesday too, but I was already scheduled for a half day today with the teacher she works with, and a half day tomorrow for one of the other aides, plus all day next Monday for a 4th grade teacher. My sanity is worth more to me than the $51 before taxes that I would have earned Wednesday so I begged off of that day.

Monday and Tuesday weren't too awful. The slightly scary part was that the teacher was being evaluated by some preschool educational guru on Tuesday, and ideally the aide should have been there and not a substitute. But after the guru left, the teacher told me that it went really well and that the guru even praised the work I was doing with a couple of the kids.

This afternoon's half day was kinda crazy. The kids were more wired than earlier in the week. I was told that one boy had had to change his clothes before I got to school at 11:30. From about noon to the end of the day, three girls had to change their pants, and another boy tried to take a bath in the sink and had to change his shirt - only thing was, his family hadn't sent in a change of shirt for him, so he had to wear his jacket like a shirt which threw him off kilter for a while.

Tomorrow I'll have two small groups of first graders and two smallish (8 to 10 students) groups of kindergarteners, all for work on reading skills.

Wow PH that was quite some time with little ones! I never wanted to work with kids. Even when I very briefly entertained teaching English, I was interested in High School English.

Good for you though.

Burlap seems to be very trendy at the moment. Even SU has been offering some.

The class I was in, the kids overall are reasonably well behaved. There's one girl who can be a bit defiant and one girl who's pretty ditzy, LOL. One boy is learning English as a second language; he seems to understand a lot more than he says. And there's one little guy who I strongly suspect is somewhere on the autism spectrum, based on my previous experiences with the other autistic students I've worked with. (But like they say - when you've seen one kid with autism, you've seen one kid with autism.) There are 15 students in the class, and only 4 are boys, so it's not as crazy as some of the classes I've worked with.

It's starting to feel more like winter here. This week we've been having nighttime lows in the 20s and daytime highs flirting with 50. But tomorrow's high is supposed to be in the low 60s. Then next week will turn cold, with a chance of freezing rain and snow showers Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Not good for Thanksgiving travel.

DD suggested about a week ago that we travel to Atlanta for Thanksgiving. ROFL

Yeah just what I want to do, travel during the busiest time. Never mind that we were just there. I like to stay home on the holiday.

May I beg for someone to fill me in?

I don't think I'll be catching up. Work's been more than crazy--I keep getting home at 7:30-8pm. I hate to leave the dogs that long although I don't go in until 9:30 unless I have a meeting that day. But I just can't work on the laptop at home any more. I've kind of gotten fried on it. Also lots of uncertainty at work--can't remember if I told you all, but we got re-org'd back in Sept? Oct maybe? Our team didn't change but the structure we're a part of did--we went from a strategic group to a reporting group. We've actually hired 2 more contractors since, which I'm hoping is a good sign given my inveterate love of living indoors and regular meals, not to mention fuzzy housemates' expectation of regular kibble provisions. And I've been doing training again which I LOVE doing, and have gotten some very happy feedback on from the trainees (including some executive peers of my manager's manager), which is also good. And I'm co-designing a new internal website for our team, which has been really fun, although the other co-designer and I think VERY differently and I've had to take a course on web design (we use a design template, don't need to code, do need to know how to use design features of the template, so that's a bit overwhelming). I'm meeting with big senior group mgr this morning to discuss my role going forward after the changes.

Pretty sure vacation will help, just that I want to finish my Christmas cards before I leave, which means I won't be catching up this weekend or next weekend. Plus Molly's gone through another round of bad seizures this past weekend--she's much better this week but when she has them during the night I don't get much sleep. I've fallen asleep on the couch this week more nights than I've made it to bed. Probably part of the reason I can't deal with bringing work home right now. Once I come home and sit down on the couch with Molly and Allie, and Sonny curls up on the chair next to us, odds are good that I won't be getting anything else done that evening.

I don't think I'll send as many cards this year b/c I usually start in July and I haven't even made the first one yet. May just take a fun pic some place winter-y and send this year to non-card making (or expecting hand-made card) friends when I get back in lieu of making another 5 dozen cards. I imagine making them means more to me than some of the folks who probably don't realize I make them. And if it doesn't, I'm pretty sure they (and I) will live for 1 year.

Anyway... if anyone can manage a catchup of the past few weeks, I'll read it and in the meantime try to jump back in!

PH I did notice the awesome DiNozzo and Gibbs shots at the top of the page so apparently I still have a pulse...

Wow Jane. Let's see, I'm sure I won't do this justice.

Victoria had a difficult early fall what with moving, the Avon walk and other stresses. They are settled now and happy and she is coming up for air.

PH is getting sentimental about ODS' last year of high school milestones. And her boys continue to do well in band.

Amber -- she's popped in a few times but we haven't heard too much from her. Hoping there was no recent tornado damage by her town.

Wrose has declared she is not going to Atlanta for Thanksgiving . Can't say I blame her. Busy sorting DD's stuff and has been on fire with the card making.

Alyson has popped in occasionally and is busy with normal life.

RainSong is still feeling her sad loss.

Tom is back from Canada (work permit expired) and found a laser technician job in a company that makes sports jerseys. It is hourly but brings in some money. He is living with his Dad and now want to retrain in a more technical field (his degree was history). Steve has been down on assignment in Bloomington (State Farm) but will WFH next week due to the short week. Shadow had a major reprieve from the needle and I'm treasuring each extra day with him. I'm keeping busy with my groups and work is going OK.

Not that much to catch up on, the posts have been a bit slow the last weeks. But I'm sure I missed something/somebody so others can chime in and no slight intended (just a fading memory!)

Just write (and then photocopy) one of your wonderful letters, throw a photo in it, and call it a day. But for me of course, you have to make a card
