Oh poor Cilantro! Does Cilantro do okay in the car? Just not the RV? Anything one can do to get a cat used to things? I have no idea, no cats here.

I need help. I've realized that my trip to Anchorage will overlap the end of Hanukkah. Marge, I'll let you guess how much fun I'm having coming up with an iPod mix for THAT... I'm seriously sitting here getting all jacked up on John Denver songs about Alaska. And yes, there is more than one...

Seriously, my entire music collection has been waiting all its life for this challenge.

It's eclectic (kicks off with Jimmy Buffett singing 'Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes) but I think it's going to work!

Still tinkering but I've got Bob Marley singing 'Coming in from the Cold,' Michelle Shocked singing 'Anchorage,' (of course), John Denver's Alaska and Me, theme from Northern Exposure, Ellis Paul song about Homer, beautiful cantorial piece for the Festival of Light, Bruce Cockburn singing 'How I Spent my Fall Vacation,' and of course, the Adam Sandler Hanukkah song. If I put them in the right order, I think this will be fun!

Buffett (Jimmy, not Warren)'s 'Boat Drinks:'

This morning, I shot six holes in my freezer. I think I've got cabin fever.

Happy Hanukkah, y'all!

ERK, would you have taken Cilantro back to England with you?
If not, would it just be finding him a new home earlier? Or were you going to take him to England after the RV adventure?

Well, I got about 75 daffodil bulbs planted this morning! Mostly in the tree/hosta circle out front, but some also in my front courtyard.

Then I pooped out and I gave a couple dozen to my neighbor Sandra. She said she'd put some in front of her townhouse and some in front of the retired pastor's. So we'll have an abundance of yellow daffodils in the spring to honor Rob.

Got showered and cleaned up and heading off to the ink techniques class later.

I might leave early and stop at Burlington Coat factory on the way to see if they have any nice winter sweaters.

Well you could try taking him out every day for a short ride, being nice to him, treats and all, while you're looking for a new cat-mommy, and who knows.

DH wants to know if it hurts to pass a daffodil bulb....

Sorry Marge - having a giggle at your typo. That's a good one. And it reminds me of a job I had many years ago, and I typed "pooprtunity" instead of "opportunity" and after I told my family that story, we henceforth called the "Career" game's cards "pooprtunity" cards instead of "opportunity" cards.....

You know, we've lived here about 18.5 years and I've seen only one squirrel, one time, in our part of the neighborhood. No big trees = not many squirrels. So off the top of my head, I have no advice on squirrel protection. I've heard of stuff you can spray on bulbs before you plant them, that's supposed to make them less appealing to animals.

I imagine since you're farther north you might have to plant them a few inches deeper, or cover them with more mulch, than I do to help protect them from freezing.

It was really nice of you to give extra fertilizer to the bulbs you gave your neighbor.

Wrose, are you watching the GT vs. BYU game?

We're intrigued by the two guys sitting together behind one end zone - one is dressed like a banana and the other is dressed as bacon. Unless they are simply celebrating Halloween early.

I miss the scenery of the Provo area.

DH just managed to pull it up via computer. We don't get it on our Cable. But hey he's an engineer, so what is on his computer is now on the TV.

I haven't seen the two yet but will keep an eye out for them.

I don't want to give away too much detail now - but of the schools he's shown any interest in, this is DH's and my least favorite choice. We didn't realize they had a decent music program until the student teacher ODS had for band last year talked about it. (He got his undergrad degree there and then transferred to JMU for grad school - so he did his student teaching through JMU.) Frankly, I'm surprised ODS wants to go.

So, since the registration starts at 7flippin'30 a.m. and DH didn't want to go and spend the night at my parents' house tonight, we're leaving super early in the morning tomorrow to get there.

As E would say, shoot me now.
So, after seeing the VCU campus and meeting the music professors and seeing a couple of the residence halls, ODS wasn't impressed.

DH was worried that the place would be swarming with people this morning, so he wanted to be early. We got there 45 minutes before the friggin' doors opened. So we walked down to Starbucks and he got some sort of coffee and I got a carrot cake muffin because it seemed like a healthier choice than a cheese danish or a croissant. I was very unimpressed that they gave no warning that there were raisins in the carrot cake muffins. I would have appreciated an extra 30 minutes of sleep more than the Starbucks stop.

I'm surprised ODS even was considering VCU since there is no marching band there. At least we didn't have to fight football traffic, LOL.

On the carrot cake, I looked because I was curious and didn't know.

It's very similar to the cheese danish unless you had a choice of reduced fat cream cheese, and the croissants are in the same vicinity too. That is, around 340 calories, and similar fat, carb, etc. values. Scones are all worse, so you did about your best. Even the reduced fat cinnamon swirl coffee cake, that I used to get once in awhile, is 340 calories. Sigh.

I mean really a cookie is over 200. It's nuts. lol

That doesn't sound like a lot unless you are trying to really control your weight - like for a 1200 calorie diet, if something says "under 300 calories" that's still about a quarter of your day's food - for a cookie????

Crazy.

I consider tulip bulbs annuals--the moles or voles or whatever always seem to get them after that first year. But I've never had anyone bother my daffodil bulbs. They just keep coming back.

I love the idea of your lovely neighborhood popping up with lots of remembrance of your brother. What a beautiful way to honor him and remember happy days.

I hope Shadow enjoyed supervising the planting. I have such happy sudden warm recollections of his gentle, sweet character and his padding after us into the courtyard for coffee in the morning. Every now and then when I have coffee here I expect him to come padding up with Molly and Sonny.

Also I laugh every time I think about brushing him--he really does hide an extra dog in his coat!

(((HUGS))) to you and Cilantro.

I feel for him. Zak never liked the car either. He'd howl in the carrier whenever I had to take him to the vet. I didn't think cats howled until I took Zak for a ride.

When I took him to Savannah to stay with my friends for a few months in the 90s (they were building my town house, landlady where I was renting passed away and her kids gave neighbor and I 30 days to move the week before Thanksgiving), vet gave me meds to sedate him. So all the way down instead of

Ink Techniques class was good yesterday. Instructor Trena (aka Cruise Trena) focused on various ways to use alcohol inks. Leona got to meet her, and to my surprise a lady who had been at last week's Stampscapes retreat was also in class!

Afterwards we went to Sweet Tomatoes for an early dinner since neither of us had eaten lunch and it was 3:30 and we were starving. Plus I had a coupon

Yeah for Penn State! Although I am a bad alumni, I didn't watch the game.

Last night I watched old movies on TV, had the new gas fireplace logs going, and promptly fell asleep. Steve was out (one of his college friends is back from Korea where he was tutoring English; Paul's mom is Korean and his Dad is Caucasian. He's a handsome boy.) Since economy was still not so hot when they graduated, and he had a not-in-high-demand liberal arts degree, he signed a 2 year contract to teach in So. Korea which is now over. Plus it's good, gives Steve someone to hang out with on weekends.

You're just going to have to come back, Jane. I miss the chatter and fun also

Houseguests seem to like coffee in my courtyard. Dutch lady really enjoyed it too, she made special note of it afterwards; and ex-neighbor Buffalo Mary said it was a fond memory, she used to text me to see if I was up and if so, she'd come over in her bathrobe in the summer and we'd sit in the courtyard for an early cup of coffee. Usually just one cup because then her boyfriend would wake up and say where the heck did you go?

BTW, you can use any animal hair for the felted scarves. Has to be animal (sheep wool, llama, alpaca, dog, cat, etc) because the fibers have 'barbs' for lack of a better word that allow them to tangle and mat (*i.e., felt), which acrylic or polyester yarns don't have.

Would it be gross if I saved some of Shadow's hair and incorporated it in the middle of a scarf? I'm sure I can get another couple hundred mega-piles of soft undercoat fur off of him.

This morning meeting 3 of the walking group ladies at Fullersburg Woods. (Donna, Jenny - you met those 2, Jane) and blond Susan - I don't think you met her.)

Neighbor Susan has houseguests from New York. Her sister and a niece.

Walk was fun, beautiful weather.

Has been a fairly warm autumn this year. Chilly at night and early morning though.
