He's just an amazing actor. He really disappears into a role even when he can't help being unmistakably Tom Hanks.

You know what would be really amazing?

If doctors would realize that when they are running way behind, that it would greatly impress their patients if the receptionists would say upon check-in, "Oh, I'm sorry to admit it, but we're running way behind today, with an approximate wait time of xx minutes. Would you like to wait, or would you prefer to reschedule your appointment?"

Or do situations like that only exist in my dream world?

ODS had a non-emergency appointment today at 2:40. We arrived at 2:28. We were still waiting in the sitting area at 3:15 so I went up to the window and politely asked the receptionist if she could give an idea of how much longer it would be, and I explained that we needed to leave by 3:45 because ODS had a clarinet lesson at 4:30. The lady said she'd check and see. About 5 minutes later she came back and said it would be about another 30 minutes.

So I told her I was sorry, but we couldn't wait. And we rescheduled the appointment for tomorrow afternoon.

Seriously. A 75ish minute wait?!?

I understand that emergencies can come up, or that sometimes a patient's office visit may take longer than expected.

But to force people to endure a wait of longer than 30 to 45 minutes before even being called back to an exam room, IMO, makes it appear that the doctor doesn't value the patient's time.

I could have gotten a lot done at home in the 45 minutes I was sitting there playing solitaire and checking email and FB on my phone, not to mention the 30 minutes spent driving there and back.

I am SO NOT impressed. Especially because today was a teacher workday, which made today's appointment time optimal. Tomorrow I'll have to take ODS out of school early, and he'll miss a good chunk of marching band practice.

PH I agree. I used to work with a girl who had a pathological hate of waiting. She'd call before she left work. Said she wouldn't wait, were they ready for her?? Not sure that would work but she was brutal.

I had a dermatologist that routinely had two hour waits. I stopped going there. And I know Ob/Gyns get called but if you have to wait more than an hour every single time, then I'm switching. Sigh. At least in a big city, you have a lot of choices. And I'm told that with everyone having health care access, we'll wait longer - well I don't mind waiting longer for the appt., when I get it - just make it realistic. The fact that we don't have enough doctors in the country has nothing to do with having people sit and wait for over an hour.

She was in Game of Thrones, DD has been watching her for awhile. She was in a few Elementary episodes last spring.
Natalie Dormer - IMDb

Oh yeah, the Tudors too, DD liked her in that. She was Anne Boleyn.

I forgot to look but I must be over 1400 now. In 13 months. Considering being gone (out of state) for about 6 weeks altogether.

I think stamp for now. Read later. I can pay attention to game if I stamp but not if I read. Not this book.

What book Wrose? I just finished Gone Girl. I don't usually like mysteries but this one sure held my attention.

The new Jack Reacher book!!

I got on the waiting list at my library on July 13, knowing it came out Sept. 3rd. I was 106 on the list. Then they had 42 copies, now they have 57 (in the whole system). I picked it up Sunday.

My freshman must never have had the concept of "GPA" explained to him, because during lunch today he sent me a text:

"I don't know what it means but my GPA is 4.26"

I told him it meant he needed to keep up the fantastic job he's doing in his classes.

His response?

"Oh. Yay.........."

Today the band successfully pulled off a surprise baby shower for the high school's band teacher. One of the guidance counselors distracted her while all the band members sneaked into the cafeteria instead of going to the band's practice field. Then the drum major met her back in the band room and told her the assistant principal/former band teacher wanted to meet with her in the cafeteria. She had no clue about the shower until she walked into the hallway that opens up to the cafeteria.

This is her first child, so she completely enjoyed touching everything and looking at everything, taking apart one of the packages of onesies just to marvel at how tiny they were, and testing out the baby lotion, and such. It was fun to watch.

As she unwrapped the first gift, she started carefully folding the tissue paper. She explained that her mother in law always insists on folding and saving tissue paper. Then it dawned on her: "But this is MY shower, and she isn't here." And she started tossing the tissue paper on the floor after that. A couple of the boys made a game of trying to catch it before it hit the floor, so eventually she started throwing the paper halfway across the cafeteria, or between the tables and the wall. It was pretty funny.

The really neat thing was that she got duplicates of only one item.

The mom who was in charge of getting the band's show shirts made and ordered had gotten a little bitty one... I'm not sure if it was even as large as a 2T, it looked so small.

So that was a fun diversion from a normal marching band practice day.

I also kind of wonder why, if the Dr always calls me 'Jane,' I don't get to call him
'Brandon,' or whatever.

Actually I probably could call my GP by his first name. He's been my Dr for 25 years and we always have good long chats. He keeps asking me about Alaska every time I go in. I had several appts recently--med I've been on for ages finally had side effect kick in of sending my blood pressure through the roof so we've been working on easing back on the dose of that one to avoid increasing blood pressure meds. I think another couple of visits and we'll about have his and his wife's itinerary done.

Have a release to work tomorrow.

Then on Saturday going to an ink techniques class taught by cruise Trena at a LSS. I'm treating Leona to it.

Sometime this weekend I need to plant those daffodil bulbs.

No - surprisingly. The football team has an away game (the local TV station's sports page online is reporting that we're ahead by 2 with about 5 minutes to go) and because the weather has been rainy with a lot of hit-and-miss showers, pep band was cancelled.

And nothing was planned for tomorrow.

So ODS decided this was a good weekend to go to an open house at one of the other colleges he's interested in.

I don't want to give away too much detail now - but of the schools he's shown any interest in, this is DH's and my least favorite choice. We didn't realize they had a decent music program until the student teacher ODS had for band last year talked about it. (He got his undergrad degree there and then transferred to JMU for grad school - so he did his student teaching through JMU.) Frankly, I'm surprised ODS wants to go.

So, since the registration starts at 7flippin'30 a.m. and DH didn't want to go and spend the night at my parents' house tonight, we're leaving super early in the morning tomorrow to get there.

As E would say, shoot me now.

OH geeez. More from the TV station's twitter feed reported on their website:

End of 3Q, we're ahead by 2 points.

11:50 left in the game, we've scored and are ahead by 8.

5:13 left, they score and we're ahead by 2 points again.

2:16 left, we've scored again and now we're ahead by 10.

52.7 seconds left, the other team has scored and we're ahead by only 3. Other team has 3 timeouts but we have the ball.

Final: we win! 38-35.

Whew!

That gives us a 3-4 record.

We reasonably could be 5-2 because two of those losses were by only 1 point; one of those was in overtime. Oh well.

I read back farther in the twitter feed. One of the kids I used to have back when I started substituting scored on an 80 yard touchdown run. Yay for him!

See if it was hockey the team would get a point for being tied before OT.

They rank the teams by points earned. Outright win, 2 points, Win in OT, 2 points but other team also gets a point. At least I think I got that right.

We took Cilantro for a ride in the RV...............not a success. He yowled the whole time, peed on the blanket and me too. Could have been worse, I suppose he could have thrown up. Looks like we need to find a new home for him. It's not fair to subject him to this every time we drive. he was miserable.
