Huhwhat? SQUIRREL!!!!

So did the link to the photos come through? Stayed up WAY past my bedtime last two nights sorting through well over 600 photos and putting captions on many of them!

Still surprised there aren't more cows... LOL!

Yes, yes the link to the photos came through. THANKS!

I forwarded it to my work email so I could show my co-workers because they said they wanted to see photos. But dang company blocked the site with its security filter (aka keep-workers-from-wasting-time-on-company-dime filter)

I need more time for better looks at pics, saw some, wonderful wonderful trip, you guys, I'm so jealous. I barely had 15 minutes and a Frosty with PH last week!

PH, did your pic come out? Can you post it? Did DH take ours? I'll have to get it, I simply didn't do anything much on the computer while in PA and we never did get internet in Atlanta - until today (well, Tuesday), after we left; so at least DD has it now.

Flew to Orlando, drove the Subaru 3.5 hours southeast to where we used to live (near Boca), spent one night with my brother at his condo, drove around the area, places DD wanted to see, remembering from growing up; drove back to Orlando, got rental truck, filled with DD's stuff, next day drove through rain to Atlanta.

And I saw more rain by then, than I have seen in my more than 15 years in northern California. Freaking incredible, three thunderstorms slowing everyone way down on the interstate, three of them, not one, three.

Anyway it was exciting, I was with DD in the Subaru, DH had the UHaul.

Got DD moved in, Jane helped. We got a fridge delivered a few days later, and DH hooked the ice maker up a week later, after we got back from driving to PA, visiting family, and driving back. That put just over 1700 on the Subaru.

We shopped a lot and DD got all the stuff to put up new Closet Maid shelving (from the very close by Home Depot!) after ripping out the old stuff. DH helped her, I went in and made sure she did a lot of it - DH still has a bad shoulder, and when she was trying to avoid it, I said look, it's a closet, it's a great place to learn to use the tools, nobody will care if you make a mistake. You can putty up any holes that are oopsies. She knew she was going to paint it afterward. So she did - she used the drill, the hacksaw, and we got paint and today after we left, she painted it. Good for her, right? She's going to get other rooms painted too and new curtains as the current ones are disintegrating. She'll look for a job too but until then she will be working on the house! The refrigerator was from 1964. I think a lot of the rest of it is from the early 70s.

So one adventure after another, but a working time, so I'm jealous that you guys just got to relax. ha ha I did a lot of watching Pippin while DH and DD worked. Yeah DD put up pictures on FB of the before/after closet. We got the cheapest white they had. I told the guy, it's just a closet, and it's covering just white. We needed a whole gallon, a quart wasn't enough, so she can do some other spaces/closets too.

Alright I gotta get to bed. It's SO good to be home. Flights were fine, Southwest, but holy cow they were jammed and I never saw so many babies. At least there were no screamers. The two year old right next to me was a beautiful boy and slept most of the way. His dad was a (very young) cute Southern Boy (to me, lol), his wife had to sit across the aisle because there are only 4 masks and with a full row containing two babies (she had the six month old), well, that's five breathers. You'd think the ticketing agent would take care of that. Because they ended up with a bunch of babies together - this was Air Tran out of Atlanta, we switched to Southwest in Denver. Air Tran is slowly being converted to Southwest. Well that's how DH and I got to sit together; we hadn't been, I think the ticket agent must have had the random seat generator on.... so DH quickly volunteered his seat to the mom and her baby and came to sit next to me and the young man - four breathers. lol

Goodnight!!!!!
Did I already say it's great to be home?

Pandora never ceases to astound me with their randomness.

I'm listening to my new wave/80's rock station, getting stuff like R.E.M. and Midnight Oil and the Clash...

... and then they start playing Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". WTH?!?

Did I mention plumbers? Nice guy came late at night, around 10 p.m. the night before we left, because the basement toilet was backed up and overflowing, a toilet that hadn't been used in a couple years. DH and DD went down to empty the dehumidifier and thankfully found it fast. Water on tile, okay. DH ran out to buy a new Wet Vac. Plumbers off hours charge 149 just to come out; but he and DH chatted, he liked Pippin, and he basically just determined that it was the city's problem (and they came out pretty fast when called).

So the plumber only charged $75.

Get home, DH flushes a toilet and a leak, this Wet Vac works, clean water from the tank, not too bad, and he can fix some toilet stuff. But he said, "we need a new toilet."

Then - the sprinklers! Did we annoy the gods of water? lol The pipe coming from the house to the sprinkler system is spraying some water, and it's "above" the valve so DH can't just turn it off, he would have to turn off the water to the whole house. So I have a call in for a plumber. The toilet will be next, but can wait til we get out for one. There are other bathrooms. lol

Okay, $214.50 for the sprinkler pipe to be cut off and we can still use the hose. Words like t-junction, PVC, valve, hose bib.... blah blah blah.

My outside hose bib burst while I was visiting parentses up in MA back in May. Fortunately our city building code requires and inside shutoff valve, so I just shut the valve off and left it off. We got so much rain this summer I never missed the outside hose bibs. I've just been carrying my old PC iced tea pitcher out when I go kayaking so I can pour water out to rinse the lake water off my paddle, crocs and feet before I take them all back in the house (well, my feet stay attached). I guess eventually I'll have to get that fixed.

I do need to get a termite inspector out and start treatment though. Land under the house was treated, that's supposed to last 7 years which are now up. I did see two palmetto bugs in the house this summer, but both crawled out the day after my cousin brought in a big basket of peaches from the peach stand and I haven't seen one before or since so fingers crossed that's the end of them. I'm pretty picky about keeping the kitchen and baths clean.

I LOVE Colbert.

Ronald Reagan on Syrian Conflict - The Colbert Report - 2013-09-09 - Video Clip | Comedy Central

I'm fine with the folks on Faux news disagreeing with Obama but for heaven's sake get your freakin' history right. Not so much with any purported news source that seems to have sent their fact checkers out to eat jellybeans and go to lunch... permanently.

In other news I think I'm turning in early tonight. Up late Sun & Mon going through the pics, last night fell asleep on the couch and woke up at 1am.

Tonight... going down like a pile of rocks.

Fortunately I have several from Wisconsin that I recently unpacked as role models.

I'm not THAT southern. I mean, yeah, I say "y'all", but I have absolutely no drawl compared to some of the people around here. LOL

Not subbing yet... but I do have one day lined up next week.

Oh yes, I know, some of the places we stopped, it was hard to understand people! And I guess I had the impression that your accent was softer or something. lol

It's hard to describe. Just funny that even when you think you know what to expect, it can be different.

While we were away, DD found out that a package had been delivered here. She had a friend pick it up. Last night he brought it by. Then he texted DD and said, "is it just me or did your mom lose a lot of weight?"

Wrose, great to have you back from your travels and east coast adventures.

PH, honestly I have never imagined you with a Southern accent. So funny how we form images in our minds.

There was one thing about Jane that did not fit the mental image I had formed of her over the years. Maybe she can guess what that was? I bet she knows...

Very curious what about me didn't meet Jane's mental image of me....

Right now it is 49 degrees. I wore my new Door County hoodie to walk the dog. High today in mid 60's. That's after most of this week being mid 90's. A thirty degree drop. Wowza.

One of my trips out to Salt Lake City, I was trying not to run up my credit card bill too much while LSS-hopping. When I'd go up to the store registers to pay for my purchases, I asked first thing if they accepted out-of-state checks. That always led to a conversation about where I was from, and so forth.

When the ladies in one store learned I was from Virginia, they cooed, "Oh, you have such a cute southern accent!"

Barely two hours after that, when the ladies in a different store learned where I was from, they remarked, "Really? You don't have an accent."

So I guess whether or not I have an accent depends on who you ask! LOL

Haha, I have been watching that system move east, bringing relief from that brief heat wave - which hit after I'd left, thankfully. I had enough of one over Labor Day when just going outside for five minutes made you immediately drenched in humidity!!! The rest of the week was fine, and Atlanta wasn't even that bad with humidity, but it was warm there. Florida was the worst as I knew it would be in August.

Enjoyed a cup of Constant Comment tea in the red Door County mug that Jane gave me. Took the sting out of paying bills, at least a little.

Band stuff Sat., PH?

A quiet day for me, as far as not seeing other people. Just putter around. I got out one fall thing this evening.

I don't know who is playing what or where tomorrow. I'll have to put on some sports Sat. since there's no NCIS.

Heard from Buffalo Mary in July. She is in Tulsa now. She had an interview in Chicago for a job in Paris!! Since I never heard after that, I assume she didn't get it.

French friend Christiane is doing well. She was in the US in Feb or March. Have not heard from her since.

I should follow up with both!

Quiet is good sometimes Wrose.

Leona wanted to go to Starved Rock (about 1.5 hrs from here) and walk on Sunday. I said no -- need downtime. Going to the art fair today will be my big event this weekend

Plus I need to do a wedding card that my boss commissioned from me.

Ever hear of the Swedish Vallhund?

It's a Corgi, a Viking Corgi! In black and white! Freaking amazing.

Got some pretty 'spirally' earrings (mixed metals - both silver and gold) at the art fair. Had fun

Went to an estate sale afterwards, down the block. Bought a floor lamp for the LR. My NY sister always complains when she visits that its too dark to read when you sit on the sofa. And she is right. Problem is now solved

Yay for the floor lamp! And the earrings. I got a couple pairs of earrings in Milford, PA, when we visited; lots of small shops to wander through!

Hi Shadow! Hi Marge!

I'm sitting here in my robe after waking up from nap. We did the 10 mile race today and had the best finish I've had since the year I did the Canoe Marathon! We came in 3rd out of 4 mixed rec boats (canoes that aren't specifically built for racing) at I think 1:58. Helped that the river was up and we had at least a bit of a push from the current this time but I felt REALLY good to finish at that pace without specifically training. My friends Randy and Charlie are training for a 50-miler the first week of Oct and Charlie really wanted me to do the 20-mile race with Randy (I usually get a last-minute call to paddle with one or the other of them when they're not paddling together).

I told them both that I'd be out of town or have guests 3 of the 4 weeks of August and then go on vacation for 8 days, and couldn't commit to training for the 20. Randy and his wife were out of town the few weekends I was in town so we couldn't even paddle together to train. But Charlie lent me his solo canoe to get back up to speed on canoe form and that time's straight off my just staying in shape over the summer with no extra effort.

I will admit I'm glad I stood firm on just committing to the 10, because when we got home I took a 5 hour nap and I'm about to take my vitamin I because I can definitely feel that I pushed hard. But I'm ready for a lily-dip on local lake with the kayak gang tomorrow after that dose of ibuprofen and a bit more sleep tonight!

This was my first canoe race in masters class! WHOOHOOO!!!!
