Sounds like you and Alyson need to find adjoining lounge chairs...

I'll be by shortly with a nice pinot grigio...

Had a heavenly nap this afternoon. I don't think it got out of the 60s today. It's been raining all day. I threw all the windows open yesterday morning, and while I've closed up downstairs once it's gotten dark, it's been heaven to have a break from the AC and feel that soft, rain-washed air blowing through the house on a very gentle breeze. Napping beside an open window to the sound of the falling rain... heaven.

Molly's taken up snoring, by the way. I guess she's getting older. Taking after her human on both counts...

I would say you deserve the whole bottle!

I honestly don't think I could function in 108 degree heat.

Dinner last night at Sweet Tomatoes was nice. Donna shared the news that her husband had had a mini-stroke while on the golf course and they ran all over creation for tests last week. No lasting damage but the doctor called it a warning sign. We were shocked, he is such a nice man. 66 yrs old. But she said she is going to be sure he takes the warning seriously.

So today we're going to Batavia to walk at the windmill park and then to St Charles where Leona will get her birthday ice cream cone

Weather should be good, low 80's.

Here's the card I made for everyone to sign and the bookmark that I made her (she loves to read and loves bookmarks). I'll put the TJM gift card in with the bookmark.

If we didn't have so much to do in the short time left here then we wouldn't be out there. And it has been record highs for the last 3 days. The average is closer to 98 for this time of year. And we are taking lots of breaks and drinking gallons of water to try and stay hydrated.

Yikes Marge. That's really scary. I hope with all my heart that the warning, scary as it is, will stave off something far worse.

I'm with Marge. I don't know how you do it.

I imagine living anywhere means you do acclimate to some degree but holy cow, Karen. That's just miserably hot.

Back from birthday outing and exhausted...we walked 5 hours straight, between the windmill forest preserve and the town. We did sit in the big white Adirondack chairs to eat our ice cream cones and watch the people go by....a fun day, everyone enjoyed it.

Today was YDS's first day of high school, and ODS's last first day of school.

On the bright side, that means I have to complete only three more of our school system's emergency information cards! Woo-hoo! Those things are a bear because the lines are so tiny. I don't know anyone who can legibly write a phone number, including area code, on a 3/4" long line. Unless all the digits were ones, maybe, LOL.

I do have to say that it was pretty weird not having a bus stop in front of our house on the first day of school for the first time since 2001.

It did slow down, but not enough to stop.

I guess the kids next door are glad they can get on at their own driveway this year instead of walking to ours.

Glad it (finally!) got there!!!

I really have wanted to visit Door County since 2008--now you have the forensic evidence (says the person who watches way too many NCIS reruns...).

I just hope YDS doesn't get too spoiled riding to school with ODS! He'll have to ride the bus again next year because he won't be old enough to drive, and I sure don't plan on taking him and picking him up every day.

We do plan on having YDS ride the bus this year if ODS is too sick to go to school, or if he's away at an honor band event. Based on what they said about the bus last year, I don't think that adding one extra person on a few occasions is going to overcrowd the bus and cause any sort of inconvenience.

Marge nice tomatoes.

Fun catching up, you're all doing well enough, eh?

The full moon looks awesome over the Atlantic Ocean, you know?? Last night visited my brother and went to the beach and the moon was low.... OMG beautiful. Pics didn't do it justice.

Keeping busy, trying to keep my back happy.

Sounds like fun, Marge. DH should have been on leave tomorrow to work on some woodworking projects which need to be done by Sept 1. It got cancelled so now he's stressing about finishing as he can't have leave next week.

I keep sorting things into boxes or piles for Harvey. Slow and steady. Our second yard sale on Saturday was successful and now we have a few electronicy things and the violin on evil bay. Fingers crossed for decent prices.

I woke at 2am this morning and of course my brain immediately went into overdrive so I gave up, got up and made a cup of tea. Fell back asleep around 4.30 so feeling sleepy now.

A friend and I have started our fitness campaign, too. Starting on Monday we each walked to where our kids meet to go to middle school then we started walking. The loops around the neighbourhood or the park end up being between 2.5 and 3 miles and we keep up a decent pace. Gets it out of the way before it gets too ridiculously hot. It's been around 85 at 7.30 with nasty humidity but better than 108 later in the day. Today was fabulous. We had a terrific storm yesterday afternoon so today was only 82, cloudy, cool breeze but verrrry humid. So I will sleep well tonight.

Sounds like SOOOO much fun!

In 8 days, I'm taking the week off... going somewhere I think...

Marge, I'm in serious countdown mode! I've already started packing when I'm not too busy bouncing off assorted walls!!!

Fortunately I'm going to burn off some of that manic energy by driving to visit friends in Atlanta this weekend.

A friend of mine had this up on FB this morning. A very moving tribute to parenthood. I don't even have kids and it made me cry.

Michael Gerson: Saying goodbye to my child, the youngster - The Washington Post

It also made me want to thank you all for sharing your lives with your wonderful children so openly and beautifully. It's truly been a window into a part of life I never would have known as intimately otherwise. I know it's probably not much comfort at the times those transitions and the passage of time hit home, but I hope there might be some comfort, however small, in knowing that you've had the privilege and gift of having children and knowing that joy firsthand.

You've given me the gift of empathizing as much with the difficult side of that as with its joy. I know that there are parts of it I never will understand as you all do, but thank you for getting me as close as any group of caring, generous and loving friends ever could. And thank you to all the DDs and DSs, too.

Went with Leona and her sister & brother-in-law to the Friends of Cantigny. Reception, garden tours. Nice except that she talked me in to a segway tour. I was not comfortable; very nervous. Well at least it is checked off my bucket list (not that it was even on it....)

There is -- on her sister's camera. I've asked for an email copy. She seems a bit challenged about fulfilling that request
