Not much new going on around here. The boys are settling back into marching band practices. It's nice that they are both returning marchers this year because it's put them on the same schedule this week. (Last year, since YDS was a new marcher he had afternoon practices on Mon. & Wed. ODS was a returning marcher and had afternoon practices on Tues. & Thurs. So there was more running back and forth to and from school last year.)

I wasn't needed to help with fitting uniforms this year. I'm a little disappointed because it was a good opportunity to get to know some of the new marchers at least enough to match faces with names. But I have to admit it's been nice not having to swelter in the uniform room.

We've been having wonderful mild weather all week and looks like more of the same for the next week. Nice!

Didn't realize I hadn't posted today! Sheesh.

I've just been a stamping fool. Also still rearranging things to some degree. Decided to put background stamps into my new cases. Any new cases that I get with stamps will get switched out to BG stamps.

Anybody need any smaller size old style cases? I put all my flower soft into some small ones, easier to fluff it up. Same for primas.

Actually, our weather this week has been pretty mild, too. I don't think it's gotten up into the 90s all week. Next week is supposed to be even cooler, with highs only in the upper 70s.

That will be a very welcome change from the usual 90 to 95 degree highs during band camp week, when the kids are outside nearly all day (unless it rains)!

Well, just started third day of antibiotics. Am going to try to go in to office today (have a demo for a new feature that I arranged). The rest of this week I WFH'ed.

I feel a bit better. Still get coughing fits (which are the worst for the open office environment; everyone hears them.

Got up and out "early" (for me) to run to the post office and grocery store. Stopped at the new Starbucks (couple months old) and it's HUGE.

Quiet here. Another not too hot day here, mild and a light breeze.

We've gotten a lot of rain over the past few days.

Maybe about 5 inches.

Well, DH got a smart phone. Yep. Finally upgraded his 5.5 year old phone.

Then we came home and cancelled the land line.

Zzzzz. Just woke up after falling asleep on couch.

Left office at 5pm today (ok 5:20pm) for first time in over a month. Was SO excited! Got home and immediately fell asleep on couch.

Marge, they put me on amoxicillin for my sinus infection. For 10 days. I feel sad for your naughty ear and hope you're feeling better.

OK time to walk pups and go to sleep. Then... last weekend at home with no plans until October, LOL!

Let the festivities begin!!!

So tomorrow, the walking group is going to Jenny's. It's her birthday and she is doing an ice cream sundae potluck. She's providing the ice cream, everyone brings toppings.

I'm bringing stuff to make bananas foster (rum, butter, brown sugar, sliced bananas). It is heavenly over vanilla ice cream.

I've only ever had bananas foster once... it was heavenly.

Although with all the bananas and five inches going on up there... Marge, are you trying to tell us something?

I was so exhausted yesterday that I just heated up some pre-cooked bacon for dinner (most awesome product ever invented for people living on their own: Boar's head boxed pre-cooked bacon in pouches).

Then I had 2 squares of dark chocolate for dessert.

I've been eating salads every day for lunch at work. I don't bring them. I splurge and get them from cafeteria run by culinary school downstairs. They have a salad bar with all fresh ingredients (no bagged lettuce, freshly made dressings and sliced toppings daily, fresh cooked gourmet chicken, shrimp, beef, whatever). Which means I get one awesomely, disgustingly healthy and delicious mean every day M-F. I've tried making salads and bringing them from home but decided to reallocate most of my monthly entertainment/clothing/stamping/fripperies budget to salads and just go nuts and enjoy myself. Down 3 lbs for July and craving lettuce.

I tried making salads at home but it's just not the same as having warm chicken and sun-dried tomato dressing and taking it to your desk and tucking into lunch with the chicken still warm. Plus half the produce at home goes bad before it goes into a packed lunch.

I also love a nice salad when out. You have to be careful if you're dieting, as some things are loaded with calories or fat, but you learn to avoid them. I always order salads without croutons, as they are fried and packed with calories; one restaurant sprinkles beans on their salads, those are good points. Dressings on the side. I just can't do the same things at home.

I've only had the Oscar Mayer pre-cooked bacon, and it's awesome. Also lighter than bacon you make at home!

We've had the Oscar Mayer pre-cooked bacon too, but I kinda doubt that it can be compared to Boar's Head.

<--- makes mental note to look for Boar's Head pre-cooked bacon at the grocery store

(and yes, Jane, I do know where the Tavern is although I've never eaten there!)

I've never seen the Boar's head pre-cooked, or I'd have grabbed it. I haven't gotten any in quite awhile tho.

Oh. my. goat.

I can't believe I know people who buy pre-cooked bacon.

Who ARE you guys?

Buy bacon. Take home. Cover cookie sheet with parchment paper. Slide into oven set at 350. Forgeddaboud it for 20 minutes.

Done.

Preheat oven takes six minutes on mine. Cook for 20 minutes.

As opposed to microwave for 20 seconds.

And the pre-cooked has apparently way less fat, the calorie difference is most impressive.

Especially when it's for one person. A whole family? Sure stick it in the oven.

Who said anything about preheating?

Most of the fat drains away onto the parchment. Any left can be blotted with a paper towel.

Sheesh.

<--Miserable humid dank oppressively hot climate. Microwave for 30 seconds. One person in house.

Will reconsider your very wise and economical counsel when temp drops below 'someone will be by any moment to put butter and breadcrumbs on your head.'

Of course in my case that temperature is apparently anything above 58F at the moment...

I confess. I have bought the pre-cooked bacon.
It is marvelous for quick, no-fuss / no-muss hors deouvres.

Example: Cut a strip in half. Wrap around a pineapple chunk. Secure with toothpick. Make lots of these. Marinate in teriyaki sauce or similar. When guests show up throw in to oven on a cookie sheet to broil. Yummy, yummy and oh so easy.
