One seller sent me a shipping notice the next morning, and I received that item on July 3. Awesome!

One seller finally sent me a shipping notice on July 9. They've given me a UPS tracking number, which projects shipment on July 15.

Since I didn't hear from the third seller by the original latest estimated shipping date, I contacted them last night and asked for an update on my order. They responded today:

I am sorry that you have not received your item.
We have traced the package and it appears to be lost in transit.
We will re-ship the item at no extra charge.

Thanks [customer service rep's name]

I loved how they mention they'd "re-ship" at no extra charge, like they are doing me some huge favor to make sure I get what I ordered. Anyway, I wondered how they had traced the package, since I had never received any notification from them that it had ever shipped. So I sent a note back to them:

I'm curious - how were you able to trace it? Can you provide me with proof that it was actually shipped some time between June 30 and July 10? I never received any shipping notice during that time frame.

And the same CS rep responded:

No, I cannot trace the package. That is why I am reshipping the order.

And I'm thinking, "Nice way to contradict yourself, seller."
Um... right. That would make me want to do business with them again...

I know they're not doing that other than very rarely at this point, but there's something about holding a physical book in my hands that I still find almost magical. And I like its immutability. I guess dictators can burn them, but at least they too still have to get their hands on the physical copy first.

LOVE LOVE LOVE both Dave Brubeck and Manhattan Transfer!!! I will bring lots of road trip music!

The cassette tapes... I still have a player up in the stamp room. In the 80s and 90s I used to make road trip cassettes. Back when I had no money, I'd dub them and give them to friends as little Christmas presents. I still have fun listening to them while I'm stamping. When BFF and I did our big cross country camping trip (GACK 25 years ago... ) I made special mixes. I made her listen to John Denver while we drove across the Rockies, which I'm pretty sure about made her want to push me out of the car, but several folks recently told me they can't get rid of their tape players because they still listen to the mix tapes.

I HATED getting rid of old VW that had both CD and cassette player from those transitional late 90s years.

Jane,

Could you download "Lake Shore Drive" on your iPod? I don't have that CD.
Lake Shore Drive (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lake Shore Drive is a song written by Skip Haynes of the Chicago-based rock group Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, initially recorded on August 7, 1970, and released on their 1971album of the same name. The song is an homage to the famed lakefront highway in Chicago. Despite the fact that "LSD" had long been an abbreviation for the Drive, many people thought the song referred to the hallucinogenic drug lysergic acid diethylamide. Numerous fans of the song and residents of Chicago believe the song paints an accurate musical picture of living and driving in downtown Chicago.

Not sure what song best represents Wisconsin. How about:
Springsteen -- "Cadillac Ranch"
Hey little girlie in the blue jeans so tight
Drivin' alone through the Wisconsin night

Gordon Lightfoot -- "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" -- gotta have that:
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin

Da Yoopers -- "Cow Pie Song":
I love to go where the cow pies grow
And smell that dairy air
And party in Milwaukee
Cause the beer tastes better there
Beer and brats and a brewers game
Its a party night and day
Now I'm walking across Wisconsin
Trying to find my chevrolet

Too bad you guys aren't hitting Michigan. DH likes Don't Stop Believin' by Journey:

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

We just get a kick out of people from Detroit claiming this song, when it's about people who wanted to leave Detroit so bad, they "took the midnight train goin' anywhere."

Hey E, if you like weird ice cream, you should come out to our yearly garlic festival and try garlic ice cream!

Bleah. I've never been. It's south of here, and in late July, and generally around 100, so I've yet to be motivated enough to want to drive down there and wander around in the heat.

Yeah, same thing here, cassettes for all the road trips from FL to Atlanta, from the mid 80s to mid 90s. Yeah you heard some of those tapes on the Oregon trip. I don't know if it was the tapes or the crappy sound system in that car, but I do know My New Zippy Red Car has an awesome sound system. Plug in iPod, enjoy.

The Amazon saga continues with the seller that sent the contradictory messages about my package being "lost in transit".

Two of the items I ordered were being processed through this company - a set of dies to use in my Big Kick, and a Martha Stewart punch that I haven't been able to find in any of the big box chain stores (Michael's, AC Moore, etc.). They updated my order status to "shipped" on July 11 and provided me with a DHL tracking number. The tracking info shows that the package sat at the carrier facility until July 13.

Today I had a *very* flat bubble envelope from this company in my mailbox.

It literally contained just the dies, in their original company packaging. So they are in pristine condition and I'm happy to have finally received them.

However, the punch was not included in the shipment.

They didn't even put a friggin' packing slip in the envelope with the dies!

I just sent another message to the company, through Amazon, to let them know I still haven't received the punch. I told them that if they can't ship it so I receive it by July 20, I want my Amazon gift card balance to be credited with the purchase price. Now it's wait and see how they respond...

LOL - did you mean PH instead of OH?

Overall, ODS enjoyed band camp. He roomed with another boy from his school, and they got along well and got to know each other better. I'm not sure if I mentioned earlier that the dorm they were in was built from the same floor plan as the one I lived in my junior year. So it was neat seeing the changes they made when they renovated it about 10 years ago.

ODS was disappointed to learn that the counselor for the clarinetists was the student teacher he had two years ago, and didn't care for then. The students are divided into two bands, and had to audition for chairs to determine which band they'd be placed into. ODS's audition was with this counselor. ODS felt that even though he didn't do well on the sight reading part of the audition, that he nailed his scales well enough to be placed into the "higher" band - but he was placed as third chair in the lower band. As the week went on, and as the two bands did some work together, he realized that his skills were better than some of the kids' in the higher band, but he thought he may have been placed into the lower band to help bring them up (or as he said, "so they wouldn't suck too much." lol) So that was kind of frustrating for him.

But I thought both bands sounded good at the concert. Each band performed separately, and then they did three songs as a combined ensemble. I ♥ the concert hall they were in. It's state of the art and pretty freakin' cool.

So I know video watching is kind of annoying but today at work we had a gold medal winner in to speak to us, look around, meet us, basically just visit and have fun. She was incredible! Such a beaming woman. So inspiring so nice such a riveting speaker.

This is a link to her 1976 gold medal winning 400 free relay. They were basically the team that hopefully would win thrid maybe fourth against the East Germans who were drugging. You can start around 4:40 to pass all the commentary. Even after hearing her talk and knowing exactly what happened I still got tearful watching it.

Marge and Jane, I have to admit that Wisconsin makes me think of Colin in "Love Actually".

How about the theme song from "Laverne and Shirley"?

Hand surgery number 6 scheduled nov 21....

Dh is changing jobs August 5th. We have no insurance until sept 5th... So we can't get it done before school starts unless we want to do it this week... She doesn't want to do it this week.... She also doesn't want to miss football season for her dance team so thanksgiving it is.... Which means no travel for the holidays which is a good thing...

So unless the tumor changes drastically and we have to move it up.....

The amputation / skinning was supposed to have taken care of this.... It's a new spot at the tip of where we did all of the other surgeries...

If that child cussed, the look on her face said "fuuuuuucccckkk" (but she didn't say it.

She told me on the drive over there she knew we were doing another surgery.

E, hugs to your DD.

But hey, on the bright side, you don't have to travel for Thanksgiving. And you can use her recovery as a reason to keep visitors away.

Update on the Amazon saga:

Yesterday afternoon I sent them a message to let them know I still hadn't received the punch. I told them that if they couldn't send it so I'd receive it by the 20th, I wanted a refund. I finally received a reply to that this morning:

"The item shipped separately. You will receive it soon
Thanks [customer service rep's name]"

Since I never received any notice from them stating it was shipped separately, I sent them another message:

"You claim that the punch was shipped separately from the dies. I have not received any shipping notice for it. Please provide me with a shipping notice and tracking number for it."

A few minutes ago I finally received a reply to that:

"I am sorry that you have not received your item.
It appears to be lost in transit.
We can either re-ship the item at no extra charge or issue a refund; please let us know which you would prefer.
If you would like for the item to be re-shipped, PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR SHIPPING INFORMATION via this email buy listing you correct address.
Thanks [CSR's name]"

Y'all know I don't use strong language often, but I am all HELL TO THE NO FRICKIN WAY on this one. Only with a bit stronger language than that. LOL

But Oh.MY.GOAT. Confirm my shipping info - when they did manage to get one item to me? Un.Be.Lievable.

Oddly, I'm not surprised by her grammar and spelling mistakes.

So who wants to start the pool on how long it takes for me to receive my refund?

Cow Pie Song Lyrics - Da Yoopers
I've got Edmund Fitzgerald and LOTS of Springsteen and I'll definitely download the LSD song!!! I'm getting SOOOO excited!!! Can't wait to stick my feet in their first Great Lake!

Holy cow V. That's just amazing. I have to admit I haven't watched the video but it amazes me that people can pull that level of achievement out of their hearts, bodies and souls.

We just get a kick out of people from Detroit claiming this song, when it's about people who wanted to leave Detroit so bad, they "took the midnight train goin' anywhere."
Actually given the music Marge has suggested, I think she and Charlie Junior the teeny iPod will get along just fine!

E that just bites.

Please tell your DD that after having one teeny granuloma taken off fingertip, my respect for her has increased 5000%. I had no idea fingers could cause you so much pain.

I hope things go well for her. I will say prayers for a successful surgery and speedy healing.

Really, you've been to nearly all the states but none of the Great Lakes?

We did a quickie tour of all 5 of them the summer after we got married. So I can honestly say that in my lifetime I've had my feet in all five Great Lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and Lake Tahoe.

At the maritime museum in Grand Marais, MI, there's a sign in the restroom stall about how the desk/radio setup for the last person who had shore-to-ship contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald was like 5 feet from where the toilet is now. It's kinda bizarre to think of that when you're trying to do your business, ya know? LOL
