I took ballroom dance lessons a couple of times. I can follow pretty well on a waltz, foxtrot or tango (wouldn't you know that sequence, lol... ). But all the complicated steps executed in a very long sequence... it was all I could do to master the electric slide.

I did start catching a few of the step sequences last night though. Not enough to look graceful, but enough to have a great time with everyone! Just glad I don't have to work today. The bar stamps a giant DRINK on the back of your hand if you're of age and it still hasn't come off, lulz!

Well yeah that was the standard question for a lot of years when his great grandfather was doing his thing. Armand Hammer. People would wonder if he got his money from the company or named them or something. But apparently his father was a Socialist and named him Armand because of that!

I did know that the old guy had nothing to do with the baking soda, but I didn't know much else. He's apparently more known for Occidental Petroleum. Yup the oil business. Interesting reading how he made money during prohibition tho!

According to Hammer, his first business success was in 1919, manufacturing and selling a ginger extract which legally contained high levels of alcohol. This was extremely popular during prohibition, and the company had $1 million in sales that year.

Hi all. Quiet fourth yesterday.
Nice and sunny and warm (hallejuhah!) -- so sat outside with my cafe aulait and red my book for the next book club. "House on Fortune Street" by Margor Livesey. Very well written, but a little depressing. Overall recommended, but don't read it if you just want a light cheery romance.

That's why I've always loved working off hours. I probably get 40% of my work done during the last 1.5 hours of the day after everyone starts leaving and I don't have to go to any meetings.

Plus going in at 9:30am gives me time to paddle in the morning before work.

A little small and green, but it has potential

And that plant is almost 5 feet tall...

I admire your earliness!

I usually work through lunch too. I'd rather go home earlier and hang with the pups and kitteh.

Although I have 2 standing lunch dates with friends each month, sometimes I'll even go out a 3rd time.

Busy day. Went to the zoo before it got too hot then went on base. Got the boys hair cut, cat food from the commissary and looked at a couple of things in the BX. Was looking for sunglasses but nothing suited so we went to the mall and got set up with a pair for later pick up. Back on base and went bowling. Very funny. DH and I realised we'd never been bowling together. He was just a little better than DS2!

By now there was spectacular lightning, black clouds and thunder but still no rain. We had a very late lunch then went to Home Depot for a couple of things. A little rain which as we drove home became more constant. Temp dropped from 100 to 73 in about an hour. Got back home and several roads were flooded where the natural wash ran across the road. Turns out we'd had about 2 inches of rain. The other major road we could have taken to get home is still closed due to flood waters. The neighbourhood our friends live in is only accessible from one back road. Of course, the major road is undergoing construction so we're all wondering if they hadn't got the drainage in properly before monsoon hit. It will certainly hold them up.

That's great. I have had no big tomatoes this year, only the cherry ones. Nothing changed in how I tried to grow them. Last year I was getting about 10 pounds a week of the plants, this year I don't even have any flowers.

It was so funny, Wrose. DS1 wanted to bowl as a family as, correctly, he said we'd never done it. Then DH and I realised that although in England we went to squadron functions at the bowling alley I was either pregnant or with a baby and his knee at the time was injured. I wonder if Google had anything to do with the new movie, Tonto, er, I mean, The Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp as Tonto. heh heh

I ask because their Chrome Book commercials feature the old Lone Ranger music. And classical music enthusiasts are cringing everywhere. ha ha ha

Karen, what other things will you try or at least try to see, before you leave the states? I'm assuming you don't plan to get back here a lot?

How about that hog dog eating contest? My son knows the winner, seven time winner Joey Chestnut, he's from San Jose. DD doesn't know him though. I think DS knew him from some college classes a couple years ago. Can you imagine eating 69 hot dogs? At once?

Apparently he makes good money at competitive eating. Have your sons seen competitive eating? Is that purely American? Oink.
