I'm with you on the limitations. I wheeze more as my asthma's gotten worse and I can't stay up for 2 straight days any more. Also my back and knees don't like me as much as they did in my 20s.

I remember when I took cousin's daughter to Maine and we hiked Acadia Mountain. She went up like a mountain goat. I wheezed and huffed behind her. She asked me why I was still hiking when it was so hard for me. I said 'I'll tell you when we get to the top,' at which point, of course, I didn't need to say a word.

I think that's my attitude as well, Wrose--I've found that by accepting that things won't come as easily and by taking care of myself and taking my time a bit more, I know I have a much better chance of staying out there and continuing to do what I love as long as possible. A certain amount of resignation and frustration there, but also a lot of acceptance, joy, and very much wanting to keep going as long as I can--even if it takes a bit longer now. And I think a bit more gratitude about still being out there!

Karen that's so sad.

So many memories wrapped around a simple beacon, but lighthouses seem to call that out in people. That first sight of home on the voyage back.

It's heading toward 90 already, late 80s and not even 1 p.m.

95 here yesterday and today - ugh.

Tomorrow mid-80s and high-70s after that - hurray!

As much as I hate the hot weather, at least it warmed up the water quickly! So swimming in the Canal will be doable for about 6-7 weeks now - yea!

Symphony was great - kids particularly loved the organ - quite impressive sound.

Oh, and I forgot to add: there was a gay pride parade in Seattle yesterday and it was so fun seeing all the people dressed up in rainbows - tutus, shirts, tights (ack - 95 degrees!), bandanas, etc. The girls (DD and niece, both age 11) both want rainbow tutus now

Seriously with all the extreme and dangerous weather around I wish we could trade out enough to moderate the danger to one another. I'm still heartbroken over the loss of the firefighters. Karen, I imagine that must be unbearable in your part of the world. My heart is very much with you.

that is some kind of hell to have to be wearing a sweater in july.. that is the reason i didn't take a job in pennsylvania many moons ago. i interviewed over the 4th of july week and had to wear a sweater... i knew then that there was no way i as moving there no matter how much they paid me...

interesting tidbit.
when we moved from texas to kentucky, it was october and it was 105 degrees or so after hurricane rita...

the moving company was not allowed to move us without power (which luckily came on as they were driving up the street) if the temperature was above 100. it was a requirement that they work in A/C over 100 degrees...

98 degrees... no sweat.. (haha!)

Wow, we just had a message left on the machine from the County. The health office or something, a robo call. About the heat - how to stay cool, what heat stroke is, what to do about it... I mean it went on for a couple minutes!

They must be worried about people being home for the holiday and clueless.

Our 4th is looking like a washout. Literally. 70% chance of thunderstorms.

Paddle rained out last night and tonight. Trying for first thing tomorrow morning.

So did anyone else see Johnny Depp kiss Jimmy Kimmel last night, four times, once on the lips?

I was dying. There's gotta be video out there somewhere.

Oh yeah just go to YouTube and type in Depp kisses Kimmel.

He kissed him once, then the second time on the lips, then a third, and then at the end of the interview, a 4th time.

You only have to watch two minutes to see the three kisses, the last one isn't til the end of the interview, so you'd have to watch Part 2.

The second one, on the lips, is the best!!! Ha ha ha

We haven't had heat like this in a bunch of years. We get a day or so usually but this extensive stuff makes me crazy.

lol!!! Well I don't miss the humidity! But it wasn't that hot that long in Atlanta. Of course I was younger then too. But most of the summer it seems to be in the 80s, low 80s or high 80s, rarely 90s, some rain... not as bad as south Florida though. That's what I really miss. I kind of dread visiting DD for a few days in Florida. Orlando doesn't even get a sea breeze!!!!

I used to tell people that what I liked best about Atlanta was the very long fall and spring. Winter was very short and summer was tolerable.

How about that, Armie Hammer, The Lone Ranger, is the great grandson of Armand Hammer, the industrialist, art collector and philanthropist.

So on Tuesday, I got my first 2014 Calendar in the mail. I generally get several freebies from environmental charities. This one was actually in FIL's name. The charities seem to follow you even after you're gone, we get some in MIL's name too.

Anyway, I love this one, it's Defenders of Wildlife and has lots of baby animals, and one month has a manatee with a little one! I love manatees!!!

How about that, Armie Hammer, The Lone Ranger, is the great grandson of Armand Hammer, the industrialist, art collector and philanthropist.
No kidding! Wow! So is he Armand Hammer VII or something when he's not going by Armie?

Just got in from line dancing lessons at a country western bar with a group of paddling friends.

I'd like to think I have a couple of talents. Line dancing is clearly not ANY of them, LOL. We had a blast though and by the end I could almost keep up with some of the steps. I remembered the grapevine from workout videos!

No, maybe cos of the middle name? Not sure. He's 6'5" tall! Very good looking.
Armie Hammer - IMDb

And he's two years older than my daughter. So young, so young.....

I would have to admit that it's not the actor/man that I find attractive, it's some of the characters he's played. I find it much easier to have a sort of "crush" on the fictional characters. It's fun and not risky, you know? lol

But yeah I saw him on talk shows the past few years and was wholly unimpressed. But since he split from Victoria (?) Paradis (if I got that right), well he's actually been kind of goofy and fun - like he was on Kimmel.

I like to imagine that whenever he hears Tim Burton's voice on the phone, he must say, Oh no, what are you going to make me do THIS time???

Holy cow! He played the Winklevoss twins in the Social Network! He was great. Very Ivy-League superior and full of himselves. Also very tall.

Don't think of it as so young... think of it as so eligible if you're DD...

Although honestly I don't see him as being her type.
