Yeah when we lived in Florida, we had routines. Cover the car seats with beach towels.... after shopping, go out and unlock the car, open all the doors wide, start the car, a/c on full blast, then start putting stuff in the trunk. By the time you're done, the car is slightly cooled. lol

But even in Florida, it rarely got to 100. It was just unrelenting 92 by day, 79 lows at night, from April til October. So you ran the a/c the whole time.

Shadow woke me up at 5:30 this morning. Took him out. Had to wear my sweatshirt hoodie, very chilly out.

Came back and went back to bed -- which I rarely do. Slept till 10:30 -- which I honestly cannot remember the last time I did that.

I think the 2 releases this week plus overall business/stress at work caught up.

Ran to Target to get a baby shower gift for tomorrow. Lady from my old SU hostess club was registered there.

Got her these adorable storage drawers -- monkey and dog - from her registry. Love the practical gifts.

Circoģ Fabric Drawer - Monkey : Target
Circoģ Storage Bin - Dog : Target

Then off-registry I picked up some baby socks and a board book of animals since that seems to be her nursery theme.

Need to get my butt downstairs to stamp a card.

OK, I got the baby shower card made. Went with a small notecard size as a gift enclosure. Tried to emulate the colors of the animal storage cubes on her registry.

I also stamped the white tissue paper in the gift bag with matching circles.

Wow, nice card, Marge! I'll have to remember that idea when I need another card for one of the little ones!

One of my nieces of course just had her baby in June, another is having hers in August. I should get to see baby toes when I visit in a couple months!

How fun! I love Tchaikovsky. I saw the Chicago Symphony once (indoors!) and it was absolutely impressive.

We're going to this tomorrow - me, Mom, kids, and niece, who is here for a few days while her dad and his girlfriend camp - they'll be back for the 4th, along with DH:

Saint-SaŽns' "Organ" Symphony | Seattle Symphony Orchestra

Mom played organ professionally and this was her favorite piece Plus it's the music from "Babe", ideal for my pig-lover DD.

The Wagner is a bonus - it's "Kill the Wabbit", LOL, and I know the kids will recognize it - they sing it around the house all the time.

Then we're going to eat at the waterfront restaurant that used to be a screen-porched picnic-table-filled wharf when I was a kid, and is now a full-fledged restaurant - Ivar's Acres of Clams.

Anyway, I hope you don't get rained out or too chilly - it sounds like a great concert!

Zzzz.

I'm beat. Crazy week, had Stamp Camp with my friends today. Wrose, they loved the butterfly card! Also did one with the new lobster set--they wanted to know when I'd do a lobster card with them.

Didn't have the paper you'd used in butterfly card you posted so did a variation with the SAB paper pack. Except that I forgot the paper to punch the butterflies. Sooooo... we improvised and they used the coral stamp from the lobster set to make a pattern for the paper. It came out looking pretty good! And they were actually excited to brainstorm an idea.

I can't believe I forgot that sheet of paper though. I felt so bad. I told them I'd comp them the class since I'd made the mistake. They told me they were paying me anyway. I love those ladies. Alyson I thought about discussion we'd all had not long ago about dating again. Two of the other women in the group are also divorced, one never married. One of the women asked (general question to all of us) do you want to be in a relationship? The answers were pretty interesting. We all like our independence a lot. One of us is taking steps to be more open to it, the rest of us are kind of somewhere between meh and whatevs at the moment.

My answer was at this point, no. Not saying I wouldn't feel differently if the right person came along, but at the moment I'm just happy to be me by myself again. I'm really enjoying it. I have amazing friends. I spend a lot of time with people I love and have been close to for almost 20 years here in town, visit friends and family. And when I want to be on my own, I have a home I love and wonderful fuzzy roommates. I feel like I'm not just part of a family, I'm part of a tribe of very independent and loyal souls who really love each other. Seeing everyone take care of each other this spring was a pretty moving reminder of the strength of those friendships, and I've seen that so much here, too.

I honestly think at this point my long term answer isn't do I want to be in a relationship or not. I think my answer is, if I meet someone who fits into that with love, contentment, thoughtfulness, warmth and understanding, that would be a gift. I also know a very independent festively plump middle aged chick who loves boats, dogs, reading, cats, chilly marine environments and still has some hope about leaving the world a slightly better place is not exactly most guys' idea of a hot chick and frankly I have zero interest in starving myself or getting nicer pedicures or not debating politics if it means disagreeing with someone, just so some guy who thinks none of that stuff matters much might notice me. So I'd be very happy if the right person showed up but not really interested in going out and searching. I'd rather go kayaking or hang out with all of you or my friends here. Or just stay home and read a book or type some long winded rant about what's wrong with society... LOL!

My friend Mary from the mountains is in the hospital across the state--she needed some serious surgery and they couldn't do it where she lives so transported her to University hospital way east of here. I'm thinking about driving to see her tomorrow but they're calling for really bad storms. Mary told me to stay home but I told her I'll check the weather in the morning and call her.

She sounds in good spirits thank heaven. On the other hand most of the folks we work with are on vacation for at least part of next week so I know things won't be as crazy and I took Friday off so I have a four day weekend ahead, so even if I came home tired I know things will not be as intense at work this week. .

I'm very, very ready for some down time. I had all the cards for Stamp Camp designed ahead of time, but still hadn't unpacked all my supplies from trip to Mom's so I was in a frenzy getting everything cut and ready this morning. I'd hoped to cut one card every evening but was so lobotomized after long days at work that didn't happen. I'm looking forward to one of the sleeping-in-late days Marge described.

I hope everyone is enjoying their music/s.

Jane, that wasn't very shallow. lol

Storms can be dangerous so be careful. I'm being careful with the heat, more than I might have a few years ago. I keep reminding myself that I'm no longer a spring chicken.

Oh and yes, when you have to improvise and the girls get a say, it's amazing how excited they get. It's happened once or twice to me, once fairly recently, and you'd never expect old stampers would get so excited!

We've had the a/c on since early this afternoon. It's cooled down to 84, at almost 7:30. We just have to get through this. I'm glad it's not like this all summer, ya know?

Jane, that wasn't very shallow. lol

Storms can be dangerous so be careful. I'm being careful with the heat, more than I might have a few years ago. I keep reminding myself that I'm no longer a spring chicken.
Um, hello???

A few years ago, Mom was telling me about the beauty shop she goes to, and said "Some of those other women who go there are OLD!"

Mom was either 80 or 81 at the time, and not yet perceiving herself as one of the "old ladies".

DH and I went out on a shopping excursion today.

We think we've finally decided on new flooring for the bathrooms. We also found one that we really like for the kitchen.

I've pretty much decided that 51 is the new 13...

Yes, exactamente. Double work for everybody.

Tchaikovsky concert was great. Chilly, but no rain.

Guess who saw me out of 5000 people as I was walking to the porta potties? Linda and Sue (stampin' buddies from Elmhurst). How funny. Linda is hosting the baby shower tomorrow.

The cloud and smoke yesterday trapped the heat in so it only dropped to 85 overnight. Then started climbing again. Sigh.
