Good book club last night.
Highly recommend "Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman.

It is up there on my top 50 books list. Maybe top 25.

Everyone really enjoyed it.

Oh, and ERK - I can't remember if I mentioned this. Besides all the attractions in Seattle (1.5 hr from my house including 1 hr ferry ride):
  • Pike Place Market
  • the Monorail
  • Space Needle
  • Pacific Science Center
  • Seattle Aquarium
  • Seattle Art Museum
  • Great Wheel
there are also a few interesting places in Tacoma (~45 min drive from where I live):
  • Point Defiance Zoo
  • the college I attended
  • Museum of Glass (has live glass making - not demos, master craftspeople and their students - it's really cool)
  • one of my kids favorite restaurants - Sushi Revolution (sushi conveyor belt - fun!)
And this trip - Tillicum Village | Seattle Attraction | Blake Island Tours -is really cool and educational: a cruise to a traditional salmon bake and show about Coastal Salish tribal culture on a beautiful pedestrian-only island park.

Plus several Naval museums ~half hour away:Just to help in your research No pressure, LOL.

Pinnacles National Monument, located near the San Andreas Fault along the boundary of the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate, is an excellent example of tectonic plate movement. The Pinnacles Rocks are believed to be part of the Neenach Volcano that occurred 23 million years ago near present-day Lancaster, California, some 195 miles (314 km) southeast. The giant San Andreas Fault split the volcano and the Pacific Plate crept north, carrying the Pinnacles. The work of water and wind on these erodible volcanic rocks has formed the unusual rock structures seen today.

Wow that's pretty out of the way! lol Love how the website even says so.

Lava Beds is a truly remote park, in a corner of California most people never visit. Most roads into this area wind through mountains and along rivers, and travel takes longer than most urban visitors are accustomed to. Services may be few and far between, and winter driving conditions can be encountered anytime between fall and spring.

Definitely a driving adventure, LOL. I remember wondering at one point if we were really headed somewhere, then there it was - a nice modern interpretive center.

We camped in Lassen National Park (nice peaceful roomy campground!) for two nights after our two nights at Yosemite (not at all peaceful or roomy!). The stop at Lava Beds made us pretty late setting up at Crater Lake, but it was very interesting...

My interest in geology is piqued! Or peaked?

Either way I'd love to go take a peek... Actually I'd love to take my niece. There's so much awe-inspiring geology out West. I'd love for her to meet it!

And Wrose no worries in Point Reyes--anywhere you can see the Pacific and redwoods works for me! I was just thinking it wasn't too far from SF, but wasn't thinking about that cut back East over the mtns to go inland to Crater Lake.

Zzzz have sleepies.

I finally got out of work before 7pm and it was pouring down rain when I got home so no paddle this evening. On the bright side, I won't be a pint low in the morning.

Finally turned on the a/c. First time this year it's gotten too hot inside before it's started to cool off. Sigh.

I had to get a cavity filled today.
It was the first time I had to do that since I was a teenager.

God love Netflix.

Well, I had a few when I was a teen. Guess I wasn't doing a good job back then of brushing my 12 year molars. Today's filling was also in one of those - the top left one. Tooth #15.

I had my wisdom teeth cut out when I was 20, so they've never been an issue as far as cavities go.

I've got a million but my early years were without fluoride. But my older brother had way less cavities, so I always thought maybe it was somewhat genetics too.

And I have so many crowns, I'm waiting for my kingdom.

Just turned the a/c off. Only 90 minutes, yay. Now to cool the house down with fans. We only had the downstairs a/c on so it's hot upstairs.

Fell asleep on the couch last night. Woke up to anchorman on morning news saying, 'It's just like groundhog day, rain again in the forecast.'

Last night's paddle got drowned out, that's for sure. Although I did get out of work before 7pm. I felt like I was playing hooky!

Oopsie on the pizza for the cheese (that's what I tell myself every time I have pizza), and the cake sets off that craving for sugar again (that's what I tell myself when I have sweets).

Man it's tough to stick to it. You're at least getting way more exercise in.

Yeah it's 101 on the deck sensor which is surrounded by three metal trash cans. So I'm guessing we're at about 95 now. Split the difference.

ERK's probably reading about the California temperatures and thinking, "and your point is... ???" LOL

It's been in the 90s here this week. Today wasn't as humid so it didn't feel as bad.

DH and I went out for Indian food. We had the a/c on for about an hour earlier. I figured spicy food would cool me off.

I know, right, PH??? LOL Yeah she's been in the middle of it from the start! We're just the sad recipients of it spreading!
It ended up 110 here today. Forecasts were calling for 112 but around 2 really thick cloud - looked almost like pollution type stuff descended and held the temp down (!). It will of course trap the heat and stuff in so I'm sure we will get the 113 they call for tomorrow. The boys and I went bowling, got there at 9 right when they opened. Had Eegees which is sandwich and slushy type thing but with real hunks of fruit. Local to Tucson and great on a hot day. In fact, people who move away actually time trips back depending on their favourite flavour. They do flavour of the month and people know which month they like best. June was Mango Tango. They always do strawberry, lemon ( my fav) and pina colada flavours.

We just do everything really early, then run from air conditioned house to a/c car to a/c buildings. The kids can't play outside though which sucks.
