Rainsong! How are you?

I hope things are ok. I know they must be tough. You are both so much in my thoughts.

That's interesting about the basic dishes--I hadn't thought about it that way. It makes sense though. There are places I wouldn't bother getting wonton soup (eg, most of the Chinese restaurants here) and places where I'd about run over my Mom for it.

Holy cow. I've caught up. Just in time. Two fuzzy pups are giving me the 'take us out and go to bed already,' look.

Don't get me started on pod schools.

Why were you shocked about them? Just because you hadn't seen them in PA? Or what?

I'd never seen them or heard of them.

Of course up north one building makes sense because it's cold and you'd lose too much time if people had to put coats (and boots, etc.) on just to change classes. Even high schools tend to be one huge building rather than several smaller ones.

And once I got out of school, I really didn't pay attention to schools for years. Like, I don't know what kind of schools Atlanta had because I wasn't around kids, didn't know any kids, it didn't affect my life one iota, and I had no TV so wouldn't have even seen it on TV. lol

So then I get married and kids and look at the school and it was culture shock. Makes sense, though. And each classroom is separate out here too. Made me feel like the one building school was a dinosaur but no, they still have them back home!

Now, out here a lot of the classes are in portables. Would that be a pod? They call them portables but they are permanent. But they were brought in rather than built. Back in 97 they voted in smaller class sizes and had to get them FAST. I guess it was nuts. They were just settling down when we moved out here.

No, IMO a portable would be a trailer - or, to be educationally PC, a "learning cottage". Our elementary school has 3 of them - one for the music room, one shared by the speech teacher and the PALS reading specialist, and one for the RTI specialist/assistant principal.

By "our" in the above paragraph I mean the school the boys went to, and where I substitute.

It's a pod school - meaning that there are 6 buildings, each containing 4 classrooms. You open the door from the outside and come into a little foyer, with a boys' bathroom and a girls' bathroom facing you, and there's one classroom to the left and one to the right. Then the "back side" of each building is set up the same way. The classrooms that share a wall have a door in that wall, so people can walk in a big circle around the 4 rooms. Each grade is in its own building pod. The pods are connected with sidewalks. The office, cafeteria, teachers' workroom, and library are in their own building, and the gym is its own building.

It's a total PITA in cold weather making sure the kids wear their coats to lunch, music, library, PE, art, reading resource (for grades K-3), if they feel bad and need to go to the nurse, etc., etc.

It's also a PITA when it rains. Most of the sidewalks are covered, but the wind frequently blows the rain so you get wet anyway.

For this area of the country, it's just a rather idiotic design for a school.

Then there are also the safety concerns. They've really cracked down on that here since the Sandy Hook tragedy, and are much more diligent now about keeping the buildings locked than they were when my boys went there.

ETA: there are 3 other pod schools in our county. All were built in the mid to late 1960s. One just closed at the end of the school year; although budget cuts played a factor into the closure, the main reason was that the area around it has experienced a huge amount of commercial development over the last 10 years and traffic/safety issues were a big concern. It also hasn't actually been in the county since the neighboring city annexed land in 1985.

The school I went to for grades 4-6 was also a pod school, but set up differently. I think each building had 6 classrooms; each classroom door went directly out to the sidewalk. The buildings were connected with sidewalks and breezeways. The office and library were in one building, and the cafeteria was its own building. The school didn't have a gymnasium. Bathrooms were at one end of each building, so you had to go outside to get to the bathroom. Asinine!

That school was also built in the mid 1960s.

Yeah no bathrooms in the portables, kids had to leave the room/building. There is a fence around the grounds so it kind of forces one to enter through the front, but there are some gaps.

Hey do any if you get migraines? I think I have one today. I don't know tho. Went from fine in the morning to about two hours in really dizzy with vertigo eye pain focused headache and now vomiting. No other feeling of illness. If I lay still with my eyes closed I feel normal. If I sit and look around whoa nelly! Room spinning head throbbing and nausea.

I get a lot more of the sinus/eye headaches living here than I ever did at home. About once every 3 months it degenerates into the dizziness and nausea and I have to lie still in a dark room for around 4 hours before it starts to improve. Some people I know who get them swear by coke ( drink!) as an aid. Doesn't work for me but does for others.

Wow. No. I get ocular migraines but they aren't really headaches, for me.

Half of what you have - the vertigo - I experienced around ten years ago, and every now and then it comes back but never as bad, but yeah, I threw up into a trash can as soon as I stood up that first time. But it wasn't with a headache. Pure vertigo.

What a mess, you poor thing. First time?

Yes first time. I was feelin dizzy at work but nothing too bad. A little queasy a little headache. Lime being dehydrated after a long day. But as soon as I drive home for lunch pretty much right to the bathroom to wretch.

I've since rested and actually fell asleep for a few minutes. going to take a bath and try to eat something

I got Bonine at the drug store and it helped the nausea completely go away.

I get some pretty severe headaches sometimes - and I generally have a pretty high tolerance to pain - but I've never had the dizziness, nausea and vomiting like you're describing. I actually have one now; it came on about 45 - 60 minutes ago. Mainly the top and right side of my head. I've taken out my contacts; even though I'm supposed to be able to wear and sleep with them up to a week I've noticed in the past that I tend to get headaches if I wear them more than 4 or 5 days in a row, depending on how old the pair is. I also wondered if dehydration was playing a part in it now so I've just finished off a juicy apple and I'm sipping on some water. I also took a couple Advil.

I hope you feel better soon.

Just because I hadn't shared anything like this in a while...
This was taken Tuesday evening at Mom & Dad's. Getting the two of them to play together is pretty rare. They hadn't brought any music suitable for duets, so they looked up some on ODS's iPad. Gotta love technology. LOL Sorry for the weird dining room lighting.

There is no way I'd have gone in June! We went in October (5 years ago?) deserted, pleasantly warm and no humidity! Where did you stay?

Ran out and did lots of errands this morning.

Went to library to get the book club selection, "Light Between Two Oceans". Could only get it on audiotape.

Went to drug store for pink nail polish

Went to Petco for big bags of dog food.

Went to bank for cash because am going to an accessories/jewelry/scarf/purse retail show tomorrow, with friend Deb (the one whose daughter just graduated).

Went to gas station.

Went to grocery store. Steve found a recipe for homemade mac 'n cheese that he wants tonight. My mom always made it from scratch but I never have. For me it comes in a yellow box....Should be good. And it is a rainy day (again) so should be a good choice.

Marge is that book, The Light Between Oceans by Stedman? When I put "two" into the search, google ignores it and my library doesn't have it. lol But it has it without the "two."

Make sense? Looks interesting.

Unless it's another tear jerker like Lovely Bones!

Yes, by Stedman. About a lighthouse keeper & his wife in Australia, who keep a baby that they find in a drifted rowboat.

So far I've listened to chapters 1 and 2. The accessories show that I'm going to tomorrow is about 40 minutes from here, so I'll make some listening inroads.

Did I mention I've been rearranging my stamp sets? I'm going to get some of the new cases so I can combine some sets, I'm pulling words from some sets (unless they specifically go with the set), and sorting way differently than I used to. Alphabetically just wasn't cutting it. I was missing too many things.

I had a lot of empty smaller stamp cases so I moved my prima flowers - the ones that I bought in all those bottles? - into the cases. Now the flower I want is a lot easier to get out! And they stack well, take up less space, and I can still see what color is in each one easily.

I even discovered that some of the flowers exactly match the Soft Sky color that SU just brought back.

I need to do some organizing. I am seriously thinking about taking all the words from every set and organizing by theme -- just words.

But so far all I've done is think about it.

The prima thing sounds good. I'm always dumping out the whole bottle.

Went for a pedicure. Now my toes are "strawberry margarita". A bright rosy pink. Walking on the wild side, LOL

Hi
Fell asleep last night feeling wiped out but better. Woke up feeling almost normal, a little out of balance but it's gotten better as the day has gone on.

We went to a birthday party at one of those inflatables places, this one was a black light theme. Fun. Then we hit 99 Ranch for groceries. Now were just home hanging out.

It's gorgeous here, low 70s, even yesterday was only about 85. One "hot" day.

Glad you're feeling better, V.

I keep Bonine here all the time, I never know when I'll need it for dizziness.

This was taken Tuesday evening at Mom & Dad's. Getting the two of them to play together is pretty rare. They hadn't brought any music suitable for duets, so they looked up some on ODS's iPad. Gotta love technology. LOL Sorry for the weird dining room lighting.
Oh! What a great photo! I love it!

V that sounds miserable. I've gotten them with the flashing lights, crushing headache and vomiting, but no vertigo knock wood.

I hope you feel better.

Yikes E.

Does not sound like a great vacation. Other than seeing Wrose's DD of course!

If it's too hot even for you it must have been MISERY.
