So this commercial for insurance, two parents and an agent chatting in the house (while kids are running around, things crashing, and screaming) and the agent tells them how their insurance gets money off every year without a claim. Which can be used for - and there's a scream - and the husband says "noise cancelling headphones?" and then two kids come and run around the parents - and they are not toddlers. They are maybe 6ish?

And all I can think is, well if you would discipline your kids once in awhile, to teach them manners about behaving properly, you wouldn't need the darn headphones.

Sheesh.

At Easter brunch they had tulip died with stripes (sorta) in pastel colors. So cool. Looking at them was as much fun as the food

Constant worry about another flood and I'm not done dealing with the April one yet. Speaking of which, the handyman put up more shelves yesterday so after I go to the bank and store, its off to work organizing the storage room.

Have I told you that my brother's stamp and coin collection got soaked?

I think the stamps are a lost cause.

But have spent countless hours each evening for the past 2 weeks restoring order to the coin collection, Spent $100 on supplies (coin folders, those books that you put the coins in by date). I've finished migrating over 20 of the books from the water-damaged books to new one. In some cases I found more coins to add to fill missing spots (from my big pile of coins) so a slight expansion while I'm doing it.

Hope to finish up this weekend so that I can get the stuff off my DR table.

Some of the coins oxidized (?). Are they lost or can I clean them?

Wow Marge that's great about the coins. Um, I dunno about oxidizing. I can ask BFF to ask her DH and get back to you, he's very much into coin collecting. Remind me when you see this because I'm about to shower and then head to the stamping convention.

Yeah I have no idea how they do it. I'm also curious how UPS ships flowers without water. Are they in stasis??? I would have expected dried blooms. Directions said they would "rehydrate" and they look great and smell great!

OK, the task of putting my storage room back together is 99% complete.

Not bad.

First photo is looking in to the room. Second photo is looking out (from standing near the basement window. 4 very heavy duty shelving units from Menards at $56 each on sale -- plus handyman labor and a lot of sorting and organization.

After the tea break I need to deal with the stuff that I culled out for the garage sale in early June that neighbor is having. Everything is just piled up.

We did a yard sale this morning. Some stuff left but we'll stash it for the big one before we move. Good results this time though.

That's great! I love yard sales. Love going to them to find bargains; love giving them. Yes it is a lot of work but very social/friendly in a way also.

Good luck on the big one. I had a massive one before I moved but it seems over the past 6 years I somehow accumulated more...A lot of it is the boys college & dorm stuff being stored....

Our next door neighbours are moving so we timed our sale to run alongside hers. He moved in March and she's waiting for the house to sell so she can give her notice. So, after they'd moved the furniture a couple of weeks ago her little daughter went to stay with grandma and grandpa. They came back on Thursday to help with her yard sale. So it was very social.

Oh well I can tell you. This was when we still lived in FL. I noticed a bit of disgusting smell over by my sink. Nothing obvious after looking, so I ran the disposal, used some baking soda, cleaned the sink, etc. Smell seemed gone. Nope, it returned after the cleaning smell was gone. I cleaned other things as the next 3-4 days went by, and that darn smell was just getting worse. Then - I found it - a TINY bit of broccoli in the silverware bucket hanging on the dish drainer!!!! OMG!!! Who knew a tiny bit of food that small could smell SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh NOOOO. Ok maybe I will just vegetate like very exhausted human who showered this morning.

Finger doesn't hurt as much but I may still lie down for a bit. Still haven't heard back on when they'll send me to see next Dr, but knowing it's not going to get worse helps. Handyman just came by to check the hose faucet outside that broke last weekend. He'll be back Thurs to do the repair. I did finally unpack and get laundry done this morning, then off to Debbie's to cut paper and play for the afternoon.

I have to admit quiet rest of the weekend sounds good.

Marge you might be able to dry the stamps. Back when I was a kid, my grandfather, who collected stamps too, showed me how he soaked them to get them off the envelope.

They are not social around here. I don't speak the language of most of the people who just want to offer a quarter for everything or will offer a dollar for a whole bag of clothes. I'd rather donate it.

Well they did look harried and not indulgent - but they looked clueless, and they must have been that way since the kids were born for them to behave that way! Okay yeah it was just a commercial.....

I find it kind of obnoxious that so many ads and shows portray parents as clueless idiots and the kids as running the show like little marketing executives. Although that does seem to reflect reality way too often from what I've seen in airports and restaurants and stores. Not that Father Knows Best was exactly reality either, but at least back then you had some archetype suggesting the people with seniority and experience needed to be in charge.

One thing I've loved so much about meeting all of your kids has been seeing how many people have bucked that trend of turning kids into little emperors and empresses before they're even old enough to speak in full sentences. I love all your kids so much, and love the relationships you have with them. It gives me so much hope for the future.

Cool flowers, Wrose! We're going out to brunch at a local B&B that has special events - should be fun. I hope your husband does something nice for you (and that your son remembers to phone, LOL!).

PH - glad to have confirmation from a band family about the drum set I have a baggie of 100 earplugs already, but thanks for the offer...

V - I'm looking through the PC website. Lots of stuff I want - have to figure out if I really *need* them... Best of luck on the fundraising regardless - you amaze me!

Marge - I'm not a coin collector, but I read alot and I have read that it's never good to scrub collectible coins. Did you have someone value the collection when you inherited it (am I remembering the circumstances correctly?)? That person might be good to ask. And I agree about the stamps - if they're paper they should dry in some kind of condition - again, I would ask an expert before trashing it. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all this, but I'm very impressed with the organization of your storage area - wow!

Congrats on the successful yard sale, ERK! It's kind of fun to get rid of stuff, isn't it? Are you shipping anything home before your big trip?

Jane - I hope your finger continues to heal well. It must make typing interesting...

Tribble cards are cool!

I know there's more, but that's it for me this morning, except Happy Mother's Day to all, whether their children are tiny, tall, or furry

Awww... thanks Alyson. When I called Mom this morning she asked if the menagerie made me breakfast in bed. They didn't, LOL...

And yes, typing is weird. Pressing down with finger hurts. Of course it's the c/d/e finger so hard to work around.

Aww, Jane, sorry about the finger. I hate that!! Typing with a bandaid, even when it's a small booboo, every pressure hurts. I can't imagine your pain!
