I don't care about the outside at all. I won't pay extra for a color or non-color, that's all. lol
I have yet to have any of my white appliances stain, other than the white rubber (?) knobs on my washer. Since no one sees the washer, I don't care! My Tappan stove looks new and it's about 17 years old. My fridge looks new 'cause it is. The old one looked old--'cause it was. For some reason, tiny scratches appeared on the outside and they rusted--so I painted that sucker with Rustoleum until we got the new one.

BTW, if your cabinets are in good physical shape and only worn looking, you might be able to get away with a couple coats of paint. It truly is amazing how a little bit of money can update a tired old look.

Yeah I meant the inside tub staining. lol

I thought about refacing, too, but I want a larger oven, this one is tiny, and that means changing the shape right there, because they are built in. So --- seems wise to just get new ones, with new counters. The wood of the cupboards is actually worn down. I'd prefer cabinets with knobs!

Dr. Doolittle doesn't live here.

Truly he doesn't.

The parade of critters through this place started with the goat, followed by bears, llamas, deer, a few stray cats and a rattlesnake.

Things calmed down around here for a few years and then came this year.

The lady across the road lost her husband two years ago to kidney failure, so she put her house up for sale. A young couple bought the house and moved in back in June. We didn't know they'd moved in until we heard the guns going off. In their driveway.

They have three dogs.

And they like to visit Abby.

Occasionally dh lets Molly in to play with Abby. Booey (pronounced buoy) and Kylie are a bit timid about coming into the fenced area so they sit outside the fence and watch.

The neighbors then put up an electronic fence and now their dogs all wear collars--sometimes the collars even work and they stay in their own yard. Now not only do they dogs visit, so do their chickens.

Also this year, the lady across the road and opposite our nearest neighbor passed away and her family sold her home to a young couple. I haven't met the female half but did meet her boyfriend back when dh was in the hospital back in October.

Just as Hurricane Sandy was raining on us, I heard Abby barking her full head off and went to see what was going on. A man was walking around our chicken coop (no, we don't have chickens--it's a leftover from the people who built this place). At first I thought it was nearest neighbor's grandson but then realized he looked a bit "rough." He waved, then asked (in a rather backwoods accent, 'Excuse me ma'am, but have you seen a little black pig? (Pig was two syllables) He got out this morning and I can't find him."

I hadn't seen said pig and told him so. He continued down through the yard and I came in to take my shower before going to the hospital to visit dh.

Before I could get out the door, dh called to ask when I was coming and if it was still raining. As we talked, I saw someone on our sidewalk holding an umbrella in one hand and a dog leash in the other with a bulldog at the end of the leash. Turns out it was, again, the new neighbor still looking for his "little black pi-ig." He gave me a slip of paper with his name and phone number on it in case I saw his pig.

In between this last visit from new neighbor and today, we've had more visits from Molly, Kylie and Booey and the chickens.

But today, oh today, I looked out the front window to see a friggin' PIG in the front yard! Not the "little black pi-ig" but a smallish (about the size of a Basset hound) white pig with black eyes rooting around the front yard and terrifying our cats--all lined up on the front porch checking out this strange critter.

Naturally I called our new neighbor--who was still at work. "Oh, man. He was in his pen when I came to work. I'm leaving now and will be there soon." Mind you, these folks do NOT have a farm, just a ranch house with a large yard.

So what is it about our house that draws these critters here? It's not like we throw food out the door to attract them.

I did get a picture of the pig. He is rather cute, but to me, he looked like BACON.

This doesn't make me feel good...

We were able to score some really good deals on all four of our LG appliances. The washer & dryer were about 32% off the list price and the refrigerator was about 30% off. The stove was only 23% off the regular price, but we had Best Buy Reward Zone certificates from the purchases of the washer, dryer and fridge, so they brought the price of the stove down an additional $105.00. The dishwasher was 20% off, but we put a $35 Reward Zone certificate toward it, as well as a coupon we'd received in the mail that gave us another $170 off - so that meant we spent only $595 (plus tax) on a dishwasher that retailed for $1000.

I couldn't help but giggle about the "little black pi-ig."

Reminds me of a guy I knew in college. He spelled his name "Tim" but pronounced it more like "tee-um".

So GT lost to Florida State tonight, as expected. In fact, they did better than expected. We scored more often! We scored 3 Field Goals and one TD. FSU scored three TDs.

I am happy that Alabama beat Georgia!

Ha ha ha! Yeah I don't care about Alabama one way or another. They were merely the team that beat Georgia today.

Funny pig story, RS.

No pigs here. Just some very, very fat squirrels. I mean really fat. It that a sign of a hard winter coming?

Going to walk today with Leona and Jenny. Need to take advantage of this 50 degree weather.

Heard there might be snow later this week. Maybe all that CA rain will come here and freeze?

Went to WW this morning. Neighbor didn't go. Can't count on her too much anymore, her attendance is not regular anymore. She is over her goal weight by a few pounds and doesn't want to pay. So I went to the closer location and meeting 1/2 hour later so I could sleep in a bit.

I'm not sure if it was ever true but these days with people food so abundant, it's probably fairly meaningless. I mean they probably get fat no matter what! lol

I could probably put a VB purse on my Christmas list for DH but I think he'd have a heart attack. And I'd rather get one on sale anyway, if I was going to get one.

Maybe!! I have no idea. It was the Pineapple Express for us, from Hawaii, so not cold, but you know once it goes over the mountains, it's anybody's guess!

Had a great walk at the Morton Arboretum. Did 3-4 miles, probably closer to 4.

We did mainly the lake trail, the spruce trail, and the Big Rock trail. At the end of that one is, yup, you guessed it - a big rock that the glaciers left behind.

We had lunch at a grocery store today. Yup, when Leona suggested it I was skeptical, but it was good. Inside the Standard Market in Westmont they have the Standard Grill.

Standard Grill | Standard Market

I had the Buddha Bowl. Very good.

Well, the way I see it, Vera Bradley is a lot more affordable than Coach or Louis Vuitton, but it serves the same purpose.

Definitely but if you get leather, it'll probably last for more years.

If I pay anywhere near $50 for a purse, I better get YEARS out of it. lol I did spend that on a leather one at Costco a year or so ago and it's still in good shape. I'm using one from Atlanta at the moment, also leather, but yeah, I'd never pay for Coach or Louis Vuitton.

So I guess seeing $80-ish for a non-leather purse is, to me, not where I'd use the adjective "affordable."

That's how I feel about them, too. Not into the VB stuff at all so I'd rather spend that money on something else, leather.

I think the VB bags are fun and pretty -- but for a more youthful audience (than moi).

And I also think they are way overpriced for fabric.

But, other than the price point, I understand the appeal.

Oh yeah! They have some gorgeous fabrics. I think V likes them and finds some great sales at times; that's what I'd look for if I were into them.

I guess how many years you get out of it all depends on how gently or roughly one handles their stuff.

Not sure what gutter you're in this time, PH!

Anyway, just normal use, normal wear and tear, leather takes a beating, I used to get cheapo vinyl when I was a teen and of course you just get a season out of that if you're lucky. lol

I don't "get" the Vera Bradley crush. They would sooooo limit what you can wear.

Can you imagine any of those purses with, say, a houndstooth, plaid or striped jacket, slacks or skirt? And if you buy a pink one, would you carry it when wearing orange or red? How about the blue patterns? Wear them with purple or yellow? You'd look like an Easter egg.

I do look for sales on the VB before I buy. I got a couple of the totes on eBay for less than retail price. I don't use those every day, but I like them for trips to my parents or in-laws. They're large enough to easily fit my iPad in its padded case, plus my camera in its case, and things like a small bottle of lotion, sunglasses, charger cable for my phone, and such. And they're small enough to fit easily at my feet in the front seat of the car. I even used one once as a carry-on on a plane.

I've had only one of my VB purses wear out - well, it didn't completely wear out and break, but the shoulder strap had some places where the fabric wore through to the inner stiffening stuff. That was after 5 years, using it from fall to spring because the fabric was mostly black. So I guess that one averaged out to about $11ish/year.

In contrast with regard to quality - a few years ago I wanted a small organizer purse to use for going to amusement parks, football games, band competitions, etc., with a strap long enough to wear cross-body style. None of the smaller VB purses had the features I was looking for, so I looked at Target and Walmart and J C Penney and Kohl's. I found one at Kohl's that was perfect as far as the features went.

I didn't love the fabric, but I could live with it, so I went ahead and bought it. Mine is closest in color to the Porcini Multi, but not exactly like it. It has an outside flap pocket that closes with a magnetic snap. The second time I used it, the fabric started tearing around the half of the snap that's on the flap. I was not happy. So I just try not to use that pocket, and am really careful with it when I do. The one thing that keeps me from being too mad about it is that I paid only about $3 of my own money for it because I got it on sale, and I used a store credit from returning a sweater my sisturd had given me for Christmas. (The sweater didn't fit, and it wasn't my style anyway.)

LOL. I mainly wear solid shirts and jeans (or Dockers-style slacks when teaching), and solid jackets, so I never stopped to consider that!

Yeah I got a purse at REI and it's been darn good, also some Eagle Creek, very utilitarian. But they last.

Purses from Target and Kohls, etc., won't last even if you pay $30 for it. Learned that. It's okay if you just want something cute for a season.

I tend to be very picky about my purses. I want certain divisions and pockets. I do NOT want just one big hole. So when I find one that I like, I do want it to last.

I don't worry too much about purses matching either, unless I am dressing up and then I have a couple of clutches I would use.

The only drawback with the purse I'm using now, is the inside is dark. My other one had a light inside. I keep losing stuff in this one!
