My son is very excited about the number of class choices. He's also said he will work hard in high school to get good grades "because it counts" - I guess hearing that from me, the middle school teachers, the high school counselors, the high school principal, in assembly, etc., actually pounded it into his head, LOL. He's done fine in middle school, but not the grades I know he's capable of getting - he really dislikes doing homework! But he is very interested in a career in science so he does need good grades in high school.

I'm not sure which seems more bittersweet - YDS going to high school or ODS starting his senior year.

YDS hasn't said much about starting high school, but he typically doesn't get excited about too many things. After participating in marching band this past year, he's familiar with the high school's music wing and the high school's band teacher. And he's been through a lot of the school so, for instance, he can find his way to the cafeteria with no problem.

that's been the nice thing about hte girls coming to school with me the past couple of years. they know the school pretty well and EVERYONE knows them. all the principals and a lot of the teachers. and a bunch of kiddos know them as Mama M's kids - which DD1 likes but DD2 isn't so sure about!

dd1 has already said she's eating lunch with me next year unless another teacher will let her eat with them. she hates the cafeteria as much as i do.

and she hopes that my planning period coincides with lunch like it has teh past couple of years so that i can run go get her a sonic too!

Gonna sit for a few before I have to get ready for work again.

I am reading and staying on top of that but there's no way I can comment on much.

Finished the Estate fed & state returns. All packaged and ready to mail.
(Can't e-file the estate stuff.)

Went to e-file my 1040 but it said I couldn't because it had an "offending" W2 (from benefit payments) so I have to paper file that too. It's ready to go. Get a refund on Federal but I owe on State.

Congrats on taxes, Marge. DH sort of finished ours (ie., he told me about what we're getting back net between CA state and federal taxes but hasn't sent any of it officially yet... Happily, it's some coming back (but not too much) - last year we were surprised to have to pay $8K which was really difficult!

Ooooh, those are nice. I like how they fit together. Are they an add-on purchase or do all wood-mount stamps come in them? I assume, based on what you said, that they can be purchased empty, and you're right - I wish I could convert all the different sized boxes (why did they never before plan for boxes to easily stack library-style? why so many sizes of box???) into these.

Both - they will come with wood mount, and you will be able to buy them.

A pack of four half-size cases (3-3/4" x 5-1/2") will sell for $4.95 and a pack of four full-size cases (7-1/2" x 5-1/2") will be $6.95.

I still (4-mumble-years later) haven't unpacked my stamps but one of the things hindering me is how to store/display them because I know there are 5-6 different sizes of box and none of those clamshells with teeny edges stack like books very well, nor do they fit against each other when organized by category.

At our old house I put them into baskets by category, but I'd rather just make a lovely stacking library. Then I'd know what I have and could buy more to fill the gaps I mean, then I'd know what I have and so would my daughter who loves to do papercrafts and has been crippled by my procrastination on unloading the stuff!

Not sure if I want to buy the $4.95/6.95 boxes though... Perhaps unpacking the movers boxes would be a good start, LOL!

I have all the SU clamshell boxes (and believe me I have hundreds) on their long sides, kinda like books, on bookshelves. That actually works pretty well. I even bought extra empty clamshell boxes to put all my Stampscapes stamps and Penny Black's in.

I think the new boxes are nice. But no way Jose could I afford to retrofit everything. A very long time ago I had posted a photo of my shelving after French friend helped me reorganize everything by theme (before that it was alphabetical). I might have lost it on the old PC, but if I can find it I'll post it.

Word.

But the new ones would stack better than the clamshells, and there aren't five different sizes like the clamshells!

Mine are sorted by size, then alphabetical. Not the best, and I've thought about sorting by category but then kind of freeze up when you have something that can go in two.

I have heart stickers on the ones with hearts in them but pulled most out not too long ago to be in the valentine section.

Marge, I remember those pics. I wonder.... if you click on your username at the top, then look at the control panel on the left, at the very bottom is "attachments." If you click that, there's a list of all the pics you've ever attached at SCS. You can delete any if you want - but maybe your pic is in there.

DS called earlier and we were chatting and he said he almost cried for a whole hour but finally managed to finish the California State Tax forms.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

Other states, you enter your federal AGI, a couple more state lines and you are done. Five minutes.

CA, starts by saying, well in these areas we don't follow federal code so now everything just got a whole lot more complicated....

ODS has gotten so he hates the cafeteria too. He used to eat there when he was in 9th grade, but last year he and some of his friends started eating in either the French room or the band room, depending on which room was free when they had lunch.

I might have lost it on the old PC, but if I can find it I'll post it.
That's what I've done with my SU clamshells. Because the largest ones are only about 6" wide, we ordered extra shelves and support pins, and DH drilled holes for them - so my one bookshelf has 6 shelves, about 8" apart, and holds all of my SU stamps. It's pretty full but we could probably add one more shelf in there.

I agree that even though ordering the new cases and reorganizing into them would make the shelves look prettier and more organized, it seems like an unnecessary expense of both money and time.

eta: Like Wrose, I have my stamps organized by size (smallest clamshells on the top shelf, and then gradually getting larger toward the bottom shelf), and then each shelf is ordered alphabetically.
Last Christmas the boys gave me a gift certificate to oozak.com. They made me a card with some of my stamping supplies and put the gc into it, to put under the tree. They said afterwards that it was easy putting the stamps back where they belonged because the sets were in alphabetical order!

These are from early 2009.
OK. Your brown wooden bookcases to the right are similar in style to mine. But we've put the shelves closer together to add in the extra ones - so where you have the four shelves, I have six. Then I have about a 14" space between the last shelf and the bottom of the unit, where I keep some 12" x 12" paper and my (ooops, confession time) stamp sets that haven't been mounted yet.

I have a feeling I have more non-SU stamps than you do, though.

Probably the best thing about my inlaws being here is that MIL is able to persuade my boys to play clarinet duets.
Current selection: "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables.

No doubt! I have about 13 years or so worth of SU stamps, I've given a few away here and there.

I actually counted clamshells earlier. If I got this right, of SU! I have 451 sets in small to XL clamshells, PLUS 55 Christmas sets, PLUS 62 backgrounds, PLUS 73 word sets, + 52 of the extra small clamshells - some of those are single stamps. I have 43 clamshells of non-SU sets, I used a bunch of the really large clamshells to put some together, like a bunch of St. Pat's stamps or baseball stamps, etc.

I can't consider putting them on their sides like Marge has because I couldn't take the scraping of the clamshells on the shelves!

I do know that he wants to take every single science class they offer and that the only extra literature classes he has interest in were the science fiction class and the class where they watch movies that were made from books and he wants to take shop so he can build a fence for our front yard so the dog can run free .

DH reminded me recently of a conversation DS initiated: "I want to be a scientist but I have a problem" "Oh, what is that?" "I don't know any scientists!"... This, from the son of two scientists, LOL. I don't know why I thought of that but it's kind of funny considering the number of science classes he wants to complete during his high school career.

Has your daughter chosen classes yet Ambber?
Very funny about DS! DD is also wanting to take all science courses offered.

She registered for classes about a month or so ago, but we won't see a schedule until August. Her art teacher highly encouraged her to choose some art classes(for those on FB,check out my post from yesterday) but she did not want to take any. I was disappointed as she is a talented artist. She said it didn't fit into any career path she was interested in taking. Sheesh.

The choices for for freshman were incredibly limited, which is disappointing but understandable.
