I'm making salad for Easter dinner at Debbie's, and I bought her and her husband a big lavender plant for their yard. So no big prep. Molly and Sonny are invited too--when we do Christmas dinner here, their 3 collies come over as well.

Easter with my agnostic conservative friends!

A very happy and joyous Easter everyone!

Community egg hunt yesterday was a great success. SOOOO adorable to see all the kids running around looking for them. Community bought an Easter bunny suit and a young Dad dressed up, his wife came to help. I think the volunteers had as much fun as the kids!

Well, off to clean, prep the salad and pick out supplies for stamping play date after Easter dinner.

(((HUGS))), everyone. Grateful for you every day but as folk song from last weekend said, there's a gathering of spirits, there's a festival of friends. I think holidays like Easter make me grateful all over again.

With apologies to Helen of course for being such a sappy American--ERK at least you've had more time to get used to us!

Happy Easter

I guess anyway...

2 sick kiddos. I feel crummy. Monster at least is behaving as she was told I would leave to a hotel if not... Have not seen any of my friends due to Easter weekend... So that sucks.

No shiner to be found and sonic screwed up my gallon tea. (In sonics defense my sil went and got it so she may have ordered the wrong thing)

It's rainy and wet...

One of the good things is that monster is in a pissing contest within the new preacher at their church so there was no Easter service discussion. I am sad I missed our Mass... But nobody feels up to going.

Death lilies all over the house... None of us can breathe...

And I don't leave till Tuesday.....ugh

Friend is diabetic on top of being on restricted diet to prep for surgery so I took my PC pizza stone up and made oven baked fried chicken, whole wheat penne and stir fry broccoli for him. His BFF refused to eat the broccoli but otherwise BFF was VERY glad to see friend wolfing down seconds after losing so much weight in the hospital. I have to admit I was gratified too. I cooked double portion so friend has lots of homemade leftovers at least.

Game of Thrones is definitely NOT a feminist series at all: that whole medieval approach of women as wenches and objects. Pretty degrading. It made me VERY glad to live in 21st century US. I know we need to keep fighting but still seeing how women were regarded as objects for most of history made me very much appreciate the modern world. Beautifully, beautifully filmed though and definitely a mile-a-minute story. My paddling buddy Charlie read all the books and his nutshell review was 'Lord of the Rings without the spirituality.'
Sounds like a good evening.

Maybe I'll need to watch Game of Thrones.

Sorry everyone feels crummy.
I find it sad that the lovely lily is associated with death . But I know what you meant by the comment.

Can't help but think it might have been better to do the hotel, after all...

Good morning, and Happy Easter (or Ostara or spring equinox)!

We were supposed to get up and go with my mom to church - she invited DD and DS - DD was interested but wanted me to go. I was not eager, but supportive of an educational trip. DS and DH were going to go bird watching then meet us all at the firehouse for a community breakfast.

Unfortunately, DH was three sheets to the wind last night. We went to Mom's at 4 for "cocktail hour" and appetizers - oysters grilled in the shell, sitting on the deck in the sun - yum! - and ended up staying through, um, three bottles of wine between the three of us?. So we discussed times for today, but DH has no memory of the conversation, in which he was an active participant, during which he was surprised that we had to leave at 9:15 (9:15, he said, why so early?) because service started at 10 (oh, he said, services in England always start at 11) .

So when Mom arrived, tooting her horn this morning, no one was ready, husband said "Huh? I thought service was at 11", DD and I were still asleep.

Poor Mom. I had a really bad night in pain (I'll speak more to that elsewhere) so I wouldn't have gone anyway, but I wish DD could have gone with Mom.

Long story - sorry. I just think it was kind of funny that DH could disavow a conversation during which he spoke at least 4 sentences. That demon alcohol, LOL. It was a fun night, though!

Brunch was marvelous!!

Nice carving stations (prime rib, lamb, ham on the bone); all the traditional sides; beautiful seafood (shrimp, oysters, cocunut crusted tilapia, smoked salmon); a nice Asian selection (including wonderful cold marinated asparagus with sesame, and a delicious pecan rice pilaf); a make-to-order omelet station, a make to order waffle station; the regular brunch type stuff (bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, apple stuffed crepes, muffins, pastries and yummy fruit (fresh kiwi, fresh pineapple....), and a sweets table absolutely to die for.

Included free mimosas.

It was not one of my first choices but I would definitely go back there next year, and a convenient location...It cost $35 per person but my first choices were $45 so all in all, everyone was happy. With Leona and her Dad being Chinese, they found PLENTY that they enjoyed, especially the seafood selection. But Leona did say my deviled eggs were MUCH better!

I LOVE MIMOSAS!!!!!

An old friend and I went to a brunch like that in Atlanta around 1980. It was, I believe $10, ha ha ha. I'm sure it's not $10 today!!!! I had my share of free mimosas that day.

DH got HBO last year for six months ($5/month special) so DD could watch it, and he was watching it too. I ended up leaving the room when it came on. I just didn't care for the violence and even the nudity, bleah.

Just not my thing, I guess.

I do believe we're going to have pizza for dinner! Our favorite place has a special but it includes dessert and I made a cake last night (applesauce for oil) that will be lighter.... so we are thinking Pizza Hut!

No offense but I"d likely throw it away. I've gotten very good at either eating what I want of something or just a big fat no. I have as of last night and this morning had some candly. Probably more than I should calorie wise but WAY way way waywaywayway less than previous Easters. THe rest that is here that didn't make it to baskets is hitting the break room at work tomorrow.

And I did know about the white M&Ms They aren't that yummy tho. They were a special around Christmas I think and I was so excited because I really like white chocolate. I didn't like them.

Happy Easter to all of you. Today started with no plans and eventually had me making brunch for 7 people No big deal. I was already cooking and the time that it worked for people to come over was when I would have been cooking so I just added on. It was only pancakes from a mix, scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. It was a nice day of family and doors and windows open.

Well it was nice the past few days -- in the 50's -- but cold again tonight. Needed winter coat and gloves to walk the dog.

And it will be in the 30's tomorrow.

Winter just doesn't want to let go of its grip this year....

A week or so ago, I heard some weather guys saying that this cold in the midwest could last into the first half of April!

I'm sure you're thrilled.

Just not my thing, I guess.
The rape-y sex scenes got to me... And yes, as was mentioned, the whole "I'm glad I don't live in a place currently or in historical times in which women are treated like chattel, or worse....

Mom did all the vegies. DH did the brisket (we bought a whole brisket for our "this is what Jews believe" educational & annual Passover brisket and latkes meal; we put 2/3 of it away for another day) and he did the gravy, too, which ended up being a really condensed thick gravy with tons of super-soft red onions - like a savory onion jam, and really yummy. I did the appetizers. I'd done the mushrooms before, and they're very good, but I'd seen the baked goat cheese and I had one dying in the fridge, so I wanted to do that, too. It was tasty!

The pie I made from my Great-Aunt Moni's recipe from the 1910s, so historically tested

All around it was a very nice meal, and thank you for being impressed - it's an infrequent feeling for me, LOL!

Alyson, I'm very glad you loved doing all that! You obviously enjoy that stuff. I admit that I was thinking, Whew. Glad DH is okay with pizza!

ha ha ha

But you know I'm just not into cooking or any of that.

Same goes for V. I read that and was thinking, EEK!!! If I had a sudden group of extra people coming, I'd freak! But then I think back to my sister's house and she's like that. She has lots of family around, and throwing something extra on for somebody is just not a big deal to her. She loves it, she loves to cook, she loves having all the kids over.

Me, I'd go find a quiet room and fall asleep. lol

That sounds nice, V. I think the spontaneous parties can be the most fun!

When it was just me and DH we ordered takeout or went to a restaurant about five days a week and especially on holidays.

We've always both enjoyed having a group over for special occasions, though. We often hosted holiday meals for our fellow grad students, none of whom could afford to go home. And then there were the casual, spontaneous "well, we were planning on grilling - bring what you have and I'll make a salad, too" kind of gatherings.

Now it's more about carrying on some traditions for the kids, and in our families certain types of food are very much a part of it.

For example, DH served hot cross(ed?) buns for breakfast

Hey V, I didn't know you guys had severe thunderstorm warnings today! If we did, I missed it. Didn't hear that on the news last night.

It was pretty quiet here today, sunny and cloudy. I think it's raining now though.
