Oh Marge. I'm so sorry to hear. I imagine with losing your folks so young, it must be so hard to lose Aunts and Uncles as well. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Just missed you from the timestamp--except that I was up early on work laptop instead, LOL!

I may think about getting the wireless fixed when tax refund arrives but I'm kind of liking life in cleaner office, even if I have to plug into the ethernet with a cable.

I have decided I'm going to move the two dark bookcases upstairs though--they match the ones up there (we bought them all at the same time and now that I'm unpacking the boxes upstairs I'll need more bookshelves), and splurge on two white bookcases since it's such a bright, light room. Right now I'm in that weird place where I don't really want to unpack more upstairs until I have someplace to put the books, and if I get new bookcases for the office, I can move all my old business and business and legal history books down here and have even more room up there.

It's kind of weird to look at everything up there and realize how much I've read, LOL! Now I get to read my way through Dad's old books!

They had one grown son who served 2 tours in Vietnam and had PTSD and worked off and on as a security guard till he died a few years ago. That broke their hearts.

After I moved to IL in 1980, I saw him every 2 or 3 years at the family reunion. Recently the last time I saw him was at my Aunt's funeral, about 6 years ago. He became to frail to travel. But his remaining friends were in FL so he stayed there in a Veteran's nursing home. I do have one cousin in Cocoa Beach and they would go to Orlando monthly to see him, and his 2 VFW friends stopped in every few days. They say his mind started going a year ago and he signed a no extraordinary measures form (no feeding tube, etc). This I just found out about yesterday.
Marge, it sounds like you have such sweet memories of him and your Aunt. I hope you have a chance to be there for the service.

They are feeling better. Lala's was not as bad as brothers. He said one of the facilities has an outbreak so he likely got it straight to the stomach and she likely got it another route.
We saw them outside on their lawn with the dogs when we were driving home from school.

Lots of debate on the news about it. Everyone in my office has been too busy to talk about it, LOL.

It's funny, Washington Post work advice column had a debate a few weeks ago on whether parents who WFH full time take too much advantage of it. I don't think it's parents or any group--there are some people who take advantage and some who are awesomely productive, nothing to do with parenthood, everything to do with disposition and commitment. I think it's more how organized you are and how conscientious about getting the work done.

I wouldn't want to WFH full time again having done it for 2.5 years. I do like the energy of being in the office, but I also HUGELY appreciate my Friday WFH day. That's the day I do as much writing and nitpicky work as possible because everyone knows not to bother me. And it's nice to be home and get the dogs walked before I go to Debbie's instead of having to drive home, take care of them and then go.

It was about the only thing I had time to pour in a tupperware soup cup to take to work before I ran out the door this morning.

Glad to hear they're feeling better.

That sounded not only horrible to endure but scary. From friend in mtns as well.

I gather aside from the obvious "worst parts" is that the "when will it end" is an open ended question. With a cold you could down those two weeks. With the flu you're in for three bad days. There was no light at the end of that tunnel. And now he's, um, not been to the bathroom for a long while and uncomfortable in that regards.

It's been a crazy week.

I had two business partner engagements dropped in my lap last month that no one had done any work on since August so I've spent the past few weeks getting them caught up--the one due in April is now about 81% complete, should go up again after meeting with dept tomorrow. Other one's now about 50% done but won't finish till Dec. Both were about 17% done when I got them.

This has made me VERY glad I didn't take my Dad's advice about law school. Lots of very, very precise legalistic interpretation of stuff involved and lots of back-and-forth and pushback on whether or not it needs to get done. Oddly enough though it's been kind of a fascinating challenge to keep joggling the whole process along. It's a delicate line between asking people to do extra work when they're already swamped without them hating you and still getting everything you need. My manager and I both take the same approach: break it into small pieces, ask people just to send the info, write up a draft response, then have them review it. Once you get them started with that and they see the progress and see you really want to help out, it just kind of builds on itself. But the nitpicky interpretation stuff drives me bonkers.

A couple of other folks on the team have kind of announced what they need and then seemed very surprised and frustrated when other team doesn't rush to get it done. I guess maybe that's the difference that working your way up from the bottom makes.

Tell him that if you knock out the really miserable extreme part, it sounds like reasonably fair preparation for the fun you'll have with your digestive system in your 50s.

Association plow FINALLY came and did my driveway - 9pm.

Not that I needed to drive anywhere tonight, but if someone had they were out of luck, or shovel it themselves.

Some of you saw what Pippin did to the baseboard today. DD posted a pic. She had sent it to me, and I said, "there goes your security deposit."

The funny thing is, it's not an all or nothing thing. I WFH one, sometimes 2 days a week. I'm in the office the rest of the time and happy to be there. But I LOVE not just that flexibility, but the fact that when I'm WFH I don't have people stopping by my desk 8x/day. Sometimes I'm fine with that and frankly sometimes you need that to get stuff done. But some days, if I'm writing, it's just a huge relief to be in the house with my music on and the dogs snoring, because that's perfect writing space for me.

It's been frustrating to hear people talk about it in those all-or-nothing terms when it's so not that. Some people work better full time at home, some full time in the office. A good manager will keep an eye on that and be honest about it. And a good employee will make sure they get stuff done. There's not a one-size-fits-all answer to that stuff.

I think maybe more that she doesn't appreciate that she should try to tire him out before she leaves for the day.

I guess I didn't post. I remember Wed. morning I had no network connection, same at 3. Went to stamp, DH couldn't figure out anything obvious over the phone and had a late night with a scout meeting. Had stamped and been to lunch with the BFFs. Anyway, around 4 or so, I noticed I was connected. Um, okay. But man was I tired. I completely slept on the couch from 8-10, saw David Cassidy at the beginning of CSI. The Partridge Family!!!!

And then I stamped some more.
