I didn't let ODS sleep in because he needed to solve the problem of not having the alto clarinet here. So he sent the band teacher an email and a text message by 7:30.
A couple other students who are auditioning tomorrow were in the same predicament. So the band teacher went to school (she has a separate key to the band room) and ODS was able to go get Al. She wanted to get a few other things done while she was there, so she wasn't making a special trip just to bail out the students.
So we had a big town hall meeting off-site today for work.
Afterwards 6 of us stopped at Naf Naf for lunch because by the time we would have gotten back to the office, the cafeteria would be closed.
Who walks in behind us but the CEO. I waved and told him I appreciated his honesty re the merger at the town hall. He bought all of us lunch and sat with us too!

That was really cool of him to sit with y'all and buy everyone lunch!

Nice!

All along, we've been thinking I'd go with ODS to his audition tomorrow. (He *could* go by himself, but it's nice to have the parental support there, ya know?)
I'm trying to overcome a cold - my head is still achy and stuffy, my throat feels like it has sludge in it, and my voice is pretty hoarse. Because of that, I haven't slept well all week. So I'm pretty tired, too.
DH has offered to go with ODS. Considering that DH has to be out of town the weekend of the concert, I think it would be a good idea for him to support ODS at the audition.
I know DH will hate just sitting around waiting through the audition process. Last year we were there for about 3 hours - and we were out of there relatively early. I did make small talk with some of the other parents who were waiting, and Bill Posey (former director of the JMU Marching Royal Dukes) said "hi" to me as he walked by, but overall it was pretty boring.
And I'd feel like I'd be missing out on a mom thing if I didn't go.
But I'd really like the chance to sleep in, and the idea of sitting around up there when I feel yucky doesn't thrill me. (I'd rather sit around the house in my pajamas, lol.) Plus the weather is supposed to be cold and rainy, which to me sounds like a good day to stay home.
But it's my "baby", even though he's taller than I am.
I should probably just let DH take him. There's still the possibility that ODS could qualify to audition again next year.

So today I saw that DH got a letter letting him know our insurance premiums are going up. For several years I've been saying that while work pays for him, DH has to pay for spouse and dependent premiums. And I knew it was "over $700 a month."
There's an increase of about $75 a month this year. Making the total just over $1400 a month. Um, that's double what I thought it was.
It was a shock. DH hasn't said anything at all about it, but holy cow.

I enjoyed the chat too. I needed the hug.
Molly's doing fine today thank goodness.
Just finished loading up the dishwasher after having two friends over for dinner. I had them with fava beans and a nice chianti... no actually did a chicken and broccoli stir fry with portabellos, fresh ginger and garlic cloves. Was going to do homemade jelly roll but ran out of time as I didn't exactly wind down early at work, so when i made my mad dash to the supermarket for chicken, broccoli and portabellos, I bought a marble cake for dessert.
Sometimes I forget how much I love cooking and having people over, even if I run out of time and buy dessert.
Friend in mtns asked if we could reschedule, so I have another weekend of cleaning ahead, whoohoo! I've gotten on a roll and kept going a couple of nights this week, and one of my friends went home with 4 pairs of shoes I was going to consign--she wanted to pay me which was not going to happen, so she's taking me out to dinner in a couple of weeks.

Ahhh some freecycler was looking for some candle holders, so I pulled out some I knew I didn't want any more and bagged them up and put them out for him.

Whew! Glad she didn't have to make a special trip.
I always make sure I take the laptop home from work if there's even a chance of it drizzling for that exact reason.

That's awesome time lapse! The mountains are so beautiful!
I love his sense of humor too!
How is Cilantro doing, ERK? I asked Molly, Allie and Sonny to think good healing thoughts for their imaginary friend in the desert.

That's so nice of him! He sounds like a decent human. Honesty from top management seems to be in short supply these days.

It sounds like you'd love to be there, but I have the feeling that folks who might wind up sitting near you might appreciate your staying home. Plus it might be fun for DH and DS to have some bonding time if DH will have to miss the concert.

YIKES Wrose.
Health insurance went up for us too. I thought I'd come out a couple of hundred dollars ahead with ex off my insurance this year. Nope. Broke even with the increase.

Furry pals are poking their heads in the door and staring at me... I guess it's time to call it a night.

So yeah, DH went with ODS to the audition. They've both texted me since they've gotten there.
ODS said there are only 6 people trying out on alto clarinet this year.
Last year when he got his audition number, there were about a dozen people on the list, but only 7 or 8 actually auditioned. Six were given chairs and a 7th was made alternate.
So I don't know if they'll place all 6 in chairs this year, or if they'll just take 5 plus an alternate, or if they'll take less overall.
ODS said he saw the boy who sat next to him in last year's concert.
eta: Auditions started at 9:30, but based on last year's experience they will go through the E-flat soprano clarinets first, and then start the alto clarinet auditions. Bass and contrabass clarinets go last.

Glad you stayed home to recover. Sounds like things are going fine at the audition. Let us know how it works out!
Well, the guys are home from the audition. ODS thinks he did "all right".
Results should be posted tonight, but we feel sure that the band teacher will text ODS and the other students from our school as soon as she hears anything. We had 7 students eligible to audition this year, all on different instruments - alto clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, flute, trumpet, string bass, and alto saxophone.
Good morning, Marge. How are you, Steve and Shadow today?
I'm good...sorry I missed your post but I have been cleaning my closet. I have 4 size ranges in there -- 1X, XL, L, M -- and it was simply overrun and I had no idea what fit my current size. I'm dropping back in to an XL it seems. I've lost 14 lbs since mid November when I started back to WW. So I bought 6 big Sterilite storage containers and the too-big go in one; the L and M in 4 others -- and when I drop back to the L I'll swap out again.
This time around I'm not going to be too quick to get rid of the larger sizes. First I want to be sure I can be successful at maintaining the weight for a while.

Oh was it Friday? Pure coincidence. I had noticed the other night when we had fish, that there were a few pieces leftover in two other packages, not enough for both of us. So last night I cooked them up, to get rid of them. Fish is good for dieters too.
I plan to eat shrimp this afternoon too, but it's not Friday so it doesn't count. lol

Yeah, I hear some people say get rid of it, it forces you to stay down. But um, that doesn't always work. I got rid of the 2X stuff after I got down to XL, still had the 1X for awhile. I kind of didn't get much in L, just wore stuff a little big til I hit medium. But my range seems to keep me in medium to large so I had to shop for both! After I hit goal and looked, the only thing I had a few items in large were t-shirts.
I don't have to spend much on "good" clothes like you probably do, and Jane, for work. If I did, I'd definitely keep it longer. I still have stuff in sterlite buckets too.
I don't mind getting rid of cheap tops that I got at Target. I don't expect them to last forever.

And you know what, I'm not going to buy ANY Easter candy this year! There's no point. DH and I are both watching our weight and --- no kids! Yeah that is often my excuse.
Anyway, it's a good decision. We still have stuff in the house if we want a treat. I have mixes and could make a cake any time. No need to bring anything else in.
