So dogs are fed... I'm caught up... whew.

Off to train Sonny.

I can't believe it's just after 7. I'm exhausted.

Had a GREAT morning though! College friend found me on FB and she was in Charlotte today so we met for breakfast! Holy cow--I hadn't seen her for 30 years. We both thought the other person looked exactly the same!

Was late for work though... ooops. On the other hand I stayed VERY late last night to take care of pretty urgent situation. Mgr said, oh, I thought you came in late on purpose since you stayed so late yesterday. Tomorrow's going to be another long day.

I'm heading up to mtns to visit friend I had to cancel on the weekend of the funeral, so that will be fun! Pups get to come with me and visit their pal Bentley. Then next weekend is mini-stamping retreat--8 of us rented a house way out in the country. Thank heaven I paid for it ages ago... I seriously had to slot things in to pay for the tax software to do my taxes. I've been good about sticking to paying cash so far and just waiting to do stuff. Once tax refund gets here I'll book ticket to visit Mom in April for more scrapping.

I had heard Mouth of the Mouse, so just checked Wiki. Here's their explanation:

In Spanish "Boca" means "mouth" and "Raton" means "mouse". However, in nautical terms the word "Boca" refers to an inlet. The original name "Boca de Ratones" appeared on eighteenth century maps associated with an inlet in the Biscayne Bay area of Miami. By the beginning of the nineteenth century, the term was mistakenly moved north to its current location on most maps and applied to the inland waterway from the closed inlet north for 8.5 miles (13.7 km), which was called the "Boca Ratones Lagoon". The word "ratones" appears in old Spanish maritime dictionaries referring to "rugged rocks or stony ground on the bottom of some ports and coastal outlets, where the cables rub against".[7]Therefore the abridged translation defining "Boca de Ratones" is "a shallow inlet of sharp-pointed rocks which scrapes a ship's cables".[8]

But I generally get more upset at hearing "raton" said like "baton" when it should be said (at least down there) "Rat-own" with a long O.

I tried putting boca raton into Google Translate but it wouldn't give me anything. But if you put each word in separately, you do get mouth, and mouse.

Mousemouth isn't nearly as fun sounding, though. lol

Will catch up a little later but Cilantro update. He came through the night fine and is now eating, pooping and gingerly climbing around. He just made it on top of the kitchen cabinets but can't get down as he's still in pain. I think we really dodged a bullet. Thanks for all the kitty wishes.

Oh Karen, I'm so relieved. I sent a note to DD about it just now, too.

DH said Chow's can be vicious, wondered if they pay more for their insurance. He noted that our insurance (USAA) doesn't cover a few breeds, and wondered if they were on that list.

French friend just left. We had a simple dinner but 2 wonderful desserts --

she surprised me with an apple tart -- I surprised her with carrot cake. How fun.

Then we went downstairs and stamped a card.

They are booked on a 9am flight tomorrow for Cancun. But a snowstorm is forecast for tonight

It does overlap with cheerleading as she will be cheering for football during the soccer season. It is incredibly difficult to participate in both, though both coaches say they will work with the girls who do both(currently four, which is totally unheard of it. Its usually 0 or 1). Soccer is basically six days per week. Two hour practice on days that don't have games. Away games put her home around 11-12 and home games she can get in around 9 or so. Cheer practice would be two days per week(in evenings, while soccer is directly after school-so she attends both) with gymnastics one additional day and football games on Friday nights.

I do worry about injury but it isn't my primary concern.

My primary concern is time and money. Its expensive to do one sport, let alone two. And I really don't think a person can give two sports 100% simulateously. I just don't. She also needs to keep her grades at a 4.0, which has never been a problem before, but I anticipate high school requiring a little more outside of class work. She also needs to be a part of clubs in order to be well rounded and those have attendance requirements and responsibilities too. Basically...she just can't do it all and do it all well. I think its time to make some priorities rather than doing everything.
You do have a lot of reasonable concerns there. I agree with you that keeping up her grades should be a priority, and that it's hard for anyone to do too many things and do all of them well.

Which does *she* seem to prefer - cheering or soccer?

Yes, it's about five miles from where we lived. I checked their address, we knew that area pretty well.

I've heard the same thing, although oddly one of the top breeds for biting is cocker spaniels. I think because they're so cute and generally good natured, kids in particular push them way too hard sometimes. Although I don't think they tend to cause much damage as they probably need to take a break right away to go pee on the floor.

Speaking of which Molly just had a seizure so I'm up early. Fortunately this was a pretty mild one. She was on her feet, just a bit stiff and slightly wobbly right afterwards, so I went ahead and took her and Sonny straight out. Also fortunately for me this time no laundry to do. Debating going back to bed vs staying up and getting a bit more cleaning done.

OK the rain and hail are now pelting the house. Bed wins. Plus Molly just came in the office and looked at me with that 'why are we here and not upstairs?' expression.

We got 4-5 inches overnight. I suspect they will have trouble.

I was out at 6am shoveling the sidewalk up to the house. While I was doing that, the association-contracted plow came, so my driveway is clear now also.

Marge, it sounds like you had a nice visit with French friend.

Have you heard anything yet about whether their travel plans are rearranged?

No school here today. By the time it got light enough outside to see, it was snowing. Then as the snow was tapering off it switched to sleet for a few minutes. It doesn't look like anything is happening now. But there's a powdered sugar dusting on the grass, and more accumulation on the deck and on the garden.

We are not sure how that's going to affect VT Honor Band. I'm waiting on notice from the band teacher about that.

Of course ODS left both Phoebe and Clari at school. Worst case scenario, he would have to take the alto clarinet or YDS's CWNN to Tech.
Last night they were predicting a 30% chance of precipitation early this morning.
School is closed today due to said precipitation.

All-State auditions are tomorrow. ODS is eligible to audition on alto clarinet again this year because he was first chair in All-District band. We have to leave home by 7:30 to meet the band teacher at the audition site by 8:00.

Want to guess where Al the alto clarinet is?

Did my child learn anything from the VT Honor Band experience quoted above?

Jane, I hope Molly is doing better today. I'm glad her seizure was milder than the others.

ERK, I hope Cilantro is continuing to improve, too.

I didn't let ODS sleep in because he needed to solve the problem of not having the alto clarinet here. So he sent the band teacher an email and a text message by 7:30.

A couple other students who are auditioning tomorrow were in the same predicament. So the band teacher went to school (she has a separate key to the band room) and ODS was able to go get Al. She wanted to get a few other things done while she was there, so she wasn't making a special trip just to bail out the students.

ERK, glad to hear Cilantro is recovering.

MO, glad the seizure was a small one. Is that a step in the right direction? Does this mean that they're going away?

Wrose, congrats on the weight loss.

PH, she prefers cheer over soccer, but she adores them both
