But anyway, since it's the beginning of the NASCAR season, I relived with ODS the question from last February...

How many NASCAR drivers does it take to start a jet dryer fire?

Only Juan.
Tell YDS his answer beats the original... and I love the NASCAR joke!

i'm loving it.

the allstar game is in town this weekend.

our big mall (The Galleria) reached "legal capacity" at 8:15 tonight due to all the crowds of people in town and they had to close it down...

now there are 2 hotels in that mall as well as an ice rink... i bet that was loads of fun...

Basketball? I lost track of it.

Also found out y'all have a hockey team, Houston Aeros. Not NHL but like AAA Baseball would be, still really cool. I had no idea there were so many good minor league teams out there.

Yeah but I bet that was fun.

Does anybody else get annoyed when the match.com commercial says that people who join match.com are three times more likely to find a relationship than those who don't?

I mean seriously? Are they counting infants who don't join? What a way to "lie with statistics."

I always think 'well DUH, if you're not interested in finding a relationship, why the flock would you join?'

Plus it says nothing about the quality of the relationship they find. That's one thing I can tell you from working with data. A field may be populated, but is it populated with good quality data? A null field and same field populated by invalid data results in equally unusable outcome. Back in the 90s a friend talked me into answering those personal ads. Not dating was way more fun.

Don't worry, while I can't speak for Marge I still think it would be hilarious if we hit the cabernet and wrote each other profiles for the AARP site... dang, I guess that means I need to join AARP before September, LOL!

Not a bad idea given the discounts, although at least if you join AAA they'll tow you're car whether or not you're over 50...

Seriously at the moment I'm so freakin' crabby about the whole idea I'd about post a profile that says 'festively plump but reasonably fit middle aged chick seeks companion to go kayaking, thrill her, and then go away.'

In all seriousness, the best relationships I've had have started in friendship situations. Never was, never will be the person who turns guys' heads because I'm so pretty. Plus most of the things I love doing--kayaking, autocrossing, working with the dogs, stamping, reading on the couch, going for a hike--aren't really conducive to doing my hair and putting on makeup to look prettier. Not that I think I'm unattractive, just that pattern seems to have been that guys get more interested after getting to know me, not at first sight. Although admittedly if first sight involves mud, getting sweaty, axle grease or tire grime, sunproof baggy LLBean shirts and a big old floppy brim hat, it's not as though the odds are stacked in my favor anyway, LOL!

I think that's why the whole dating site scene intimidates me. When my friend talked me into answering those half-dozen personal ad responses, I felt like I was on a job interview, except this time my 'interview' outfit and how I looked in it was waaaaaaay more important than my proverbial skills and experience.

I think 95% of us fall into that category.

I think I read a long time ago that people tend to date people who feel similarly about themselves. Like the guy who thinks he's king of the prom (or should be) dates the girl who feels she should be the queen of the prom.

I've never ever ever been one of those people and never dated guys like that. And that was always just fine with me.

Seriously, I've been very lucky to have awesome guy friends through all of this, including a good half a dozen friends of ex who went out of their way to find me and let me know they think he's a complete and total lunkhead and to make sure and let them know if I needed anything. Hearing that from a number of his friends meant a lot to me. My guy friends have been wonderful too, including ex-beau from VA who asked for honor of taking me out for my official post-separation date. That was lovely.

I have the feeling in terms of jumping back into that particular pool for anything other than quick splash with ex-beau from VA is going to have a lot more to do with the right person swimming up than with my feeling the time has come and I Have To Do Something About It.

I guess part of my discomfort with the whole love-at-first-sight thing probably comes from the fact that my absolutely worst most horribly emotionally disastrous relationships (which I do not number ex amongst, not sure if that's a good thing or not, LOL!) came with guys I had huge crushes on before knowing them well (which wasn't the case with ex). I guess if you get whacked in the head with large blunt objects a few times you develop a serious aversion to large blunt objects... who knew?

Downloaded the tax software for the estate -- FINAL year. This will be the third estate tax return.

They lump the estate forms in to the premium/business software.

Got it downloaded, checked for updates. Could only make about 25% progress -- most forms aren't available yet, still waiting for approval it says.

Downton Abbey party tonight. It is the season finale. Went way too quickly -- new episodes only started Jan 6 and we waited about 9 months for those --

Oh Marge. I know that's been a lot of work for you. I'm about done with mine. I was much better this year about keeping all the forms together and now I can check DIVORCED on the form this year. Just me. I'll probably finish tonight.

I was surprised that it actually felt good to check that box. I guess it's a sign of recovery.

I hope finishing the estate work isn't too hard for you--I mean that emotionally every bit as much as work-ily.

Yeah it was actually. I'm kinda shocked. I did a 5K when Zach was little and they both came out and hung around and cheered. And just a few months ago we went as a family to cheer on a friend who walked in the ALzheimer fundraising walk.

I'll just add it to my list of reasons why I'm not fond of your hubs

Wonder if it's related to what's coming through here on Tuesday. It's been 70 for a couple days, today mid sixties, but Tuesday - freezing overnight, highs in the 40s, rain here and snow on the nearby mountains. Might be hail, and thunder too! Oh joy.

a few months ago i would have been upset.... now i just don't care. i'm going to do what i want and if they want to participate, then yay. but i'm tired of waiting on them.

i bust my butt waaayyyy too hard for them to treat me like they have been, so now i schedule my activities and if they come, yay. if not, no biggie. but i hope that they don't have anythign big planned on a day that i want to get a pedicure because guess what - my pedicure is coming first from now on...

for instance this weekend is dd2's solo and ensemble competition for regional orchestra....

it is also the scrapbook round-up that i like to go to every year. i sure hope dh can take her becuase i'm going shopping with my friends.

It does suck E. You deserve an equal portion of the family support.

oh em gee...
i just had a student (who's failing) email me tonight and say - hey! i've been diagnosed with ADD - that means that i get to retake all my tests... see you tuesday.

um. no. you have to have paperwork via 504 or special ed to get that accommodation. a diagnosis does not automatically mean you get to retake all your tests... i'd advise coming to class every once in a while... and then maybe attempting to do something other than sleep.... lol

Haven't gotten as much clearing out as I'd hoped to get done but I guess I can't complain. I've filled the recycle bin with old paper so now I'm staging piles to drop in after Thursday's pickup. I have two shoeboxes full of stuff to shred, too.

Had a lovely dinner with movie night friend--he's in from his contract in CA visiting his partner for the long weekend so we just spent 3 hours catching up. Time to go visit the zzz's now I guess.

definitely not to support me on anything like that.
Um... seriously?

On the other hand ex couldn't be bothered when I did the 70 mile canoe marathon either.

E that's got to be really tough.

It sucks even worse that DH isn't setting the example by his own actions that it's NOT EVER in ANY way acceptable to treat you like that. It must take such a huge amount of strength and conviction to stand up to that.

Nice try, failing arse hat. Sigh...

Given how hard I know you work to be there for your students, I'm guessing it will be very satisfying to update someone who can't even be bothered to show up that guess what? You still need to make an effort. Grrrrrr.

seriously.

we've had this fight for years. he'd get up at 4 am to go hunting but wouldn't go to church with me at 10 am.. it was too early.

so i started going to 8 am Mass because that's what I prefer to go to - and so now it's my fault that he doesn't go to church...

um... okay - let's go to 10 am Mass.

oh wait - it's too early too....

whatever.

and he wonders why i've quit asking his opinion about things - i just do it...

i've already told him i'm running in another colour run. i told him the date. he's welcome to sign up and walk with me - or not.

we have to get 300 points between march 1 and sept 1 for his insurance so that we can save $200 / month. a 5K is worth 150 points... and it's only $40 entry fee now..... the other opportunities to earn points are a LOT more expensive. and almost outweigh the discount we woudl get if we didn't do them... but our health wouldn't improve either.

so i'm doing them and getting my points and improving my health.

and he's sitting on teh couch and spreading wider and wider adn wider....
