Lisa, keep us posted on Buddy's progress, poor thing! Hope he gets better soon. No licking!

Michelle, that was extra special super duper nice of the Pastor and his Mrs. I have been touched by the kindness fairy too recently aka Lisa W and Pony). It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy

Everything else flew out of my head ... having trouble turning my brain off. Elaine told me and Sue today.that without this next brain operation she would only have 3 months to live. I cannot, absolutely cannot get my head around it. They are going to do everything they possibly can to give her a little longer, but they can't cure her. 2 new tumours have appeared since her last post-op scan. They believe those are small enough to get out, but the big one is growing down into her brain. Rapidly. She is going to have to face some really tough decisions in the next few weeks. I'm not ready for this.

So, here I lie. Feeling a bit sorry for myself.

See if solitaire can send me to sleep.
I have tears in my eyes. Life is so unfair. I wish there were something I could do to help but I cannot. So, I will be praying for E and for her family. And I will be praying for you and Sue. I never, ever, EVER want to lose a good friend.

Michelle, that was kind and certainly deserved. You will pay it forward, I know.

I woke up too early. Nothing new there. Time to stop at Tim's for a breakfast sandwich and yummy coffee. Almost worth getting up for, as if the paychecks for my bad habits weren't enough.

Busy, busy day today. Hope everyone has a great day.
I don't know if it was deserved or not but I was pretty blown away by it. It has definitely been my year to be on the receiving end of some pretty amazing kindnesses!

This is a new phrase for me. David said it yesterday and now Joyce. What does it mean?

I mean, I can kind of guess but I want to be sure.

I just saw the most ridiculous sentiment: "I <3 you more than bacon"

Joyce, the more you fly, the easier it gets to find your way around. And yes, there is indeed a hotel at DTW!

Emma, kudos to Roy for overcoming his anxiety about traveling. That cannot have been easy for him. I'm sure his presentation will be a smashing success. He knows his stuff!

Moe, big hugs.

Michelle, I always interpret "first world problems" to mean that it's not a real problem in the grand scheme of things. If we lived in a third-world country, we might be struggling to achieve the basics of life. In a first-world country, what seem to be problems to us are often truly nothing at all compared to real problems.

Hi, Cathy!

That's kind of what I thought, too. But it was only the 2nd time I'd seen/heard the phrase and just wanted to be sure that I was on the right track.

Yes, Cathy, that's what I mean about first world problems. And I heard Laura say it first. I stole it.
I have food on the table and a roof over my head. A job, a car, and my family. The fact that it's too wet to mow is merely an inconvenience.

He did say he had lost his nerve with the travelling aspect of doing this, but he told me last night on the phone it wasn't all that bad. He is fine when he's ON the plane, it's the 'getting there on time' and 'having the right documents' and 'going through security' and 'being at the right gate' parts which he panics about. I don't really suffer from anxiety myself so I don't totally get it, but I see how completely debilitating it is for him and I sympathise (to a point). He knew he just had to do it though so I'm very proud of him for just getting on with it.

He's over an hour into it by now so he'll have found his flow. I have to say, he's a very good presenter. He doesn't just read the slides out like a lot of people do. He puts the slides up, then he tells an anecdote or gives examples of real life situations while the audience read it. It seems to work a lot better that way, much less boring for the trainee.
I can appreciate how he feels about flying. I love to fly but those details stress me out, too.

I'm sure his presentation will be fabulous!

It makes sense (first world problems.) The poorest people in this country are, in general, wealthier than 80% of the rest of the world.

We are just so spoiled.

Gary was able to take Em to the doctor. She has to undergo some allergy testing. She has had a cough for sometime and it just will not go away. Praying it is like dust or something - not our poor doggies/kitties/animals in general. Too many to list. LOL!

Emma, I am so sorry about Elaine. My heart hurts for you and her. I hope she can get a little more time.

Way to go, Roy! I hope he knocks it out of the park. Wait. I need an English equivalent to that.

Lisa, I hope Buddy isn't too miserable. Poor guy.

Moe (((hugs)))

Michelle, what Joyce and Cathy said. I don't think life is a pissing contest, but I think every now and then we need a little perspective. I have a massive pile of dirty dishes to wash, because we have plenty of food. Oh and I have all the clean water I need to wash them. I get frustrated with my government, but guess what?! I can vote these people out, write my representatives, post about it all over FB, and not worry about getting lynched in the night. But my iPhone is loading slowly...waaaawaaawaaa.. Haha!

We have a friend who is an officer from a middle eastern country. We met him at an Army school 10-15 years ago. In his village things are so corrupt that they either pay $400 a month for electricity; or they can pay an official $50 once and the bill is $30. Oh and he only makes 13,000 a year. I can barely wrap my head around that.

I got all deep before my second cuppa. I'm off to fix that with Dr. Seuss and my Thing 1 and 2. Right after I appreciate how well fed we are by washing dishes and sweeping up the bazillions of breakfast crumbs.

hee hee hee... speaking of first world problems. I was just grousing to myself because, when he made my salad last night, Jay cut the pieces of lettuce so small that I couldn't stab them with a fork and had to scoop them instead. What a goof!

Thank you, Michelle. We weren't ready for it ... all 3 of us were sitting on my deck blubbing. She's not ready ... none of us are. She's going to seek a 2nd and 3rd opinion at U of M on Th and at the Henry Ford on Friday, then she's scheduled for surgery early part of next week.

Emma, I know you don't want to hear this, but this was shared with me a couple of months ago to prepare me for what my dad was going through. The best way I can explain it is that the stages of dying are much like the stages of grief and everyone has to go through them Now that we've agreed to and started Hospice proceedings for my dad I can identify and and help him through each step. It also helps me through each step. I know it won't help at all when the final day comes, but it does help me right now until we get to that ugly point. Right now my dad seesaws between Anger and depression
  1. Denial "I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to me."
Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of possessions and individuals that will be left behind after death. Denial can be conscious or unconscious refusal to accept facts, information, or the reality of the situation. Denial is a defense mechanism and some people can become locked in this stage.
  2. Anger "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"
Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Anger can manifest itself in different ways. People can be angry with themselves, or with others, and especially those who are close to them. It is important to remain detached and nonjudgmental when dealing with a person experiencing anger from grief.
  3. Bargaining "I'll do anything for a few more years."; "I will give my life savings if..."
The third stage involves the hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, "I understand I will die, but if I could just do something to buy more time..." People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek to negotiate a compromise. For example "Can we still be friends?.." when facing a break-up. Bargaining rarely provides a sustainable solution, especially if it's a matter of life or death.
  4. Depression "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; "I'm going to die soon so what's the point?"; "I miss my loved one, why go on?"
During the fourth stage, the dying person begins to understand the certainty of death. Because of this, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying and grieving. This process allows the dying person to disconnect from things of love and affection. It is not recommended to attempt to cheer up an individual who is in this stage. It is an important time for grieving that must be processed. Depression could be referred to as the dress rehearsal for the 'aftermath'. It is a kind of acceptance with emotional attachment. It's natural to feel sadness, regret, fear, and uncertainty when going through this stage. Feeling those emotions shows that the person has begun to accept the situation.
  5. Acceptance "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it."
In this last stage, individuals begin to come to terms with their mortality, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. This stage varies according to the person's situation. People dying can enter this stage a long time before the people they leave behind, who must pass through their own individual stages of dealing with the grief.

Hey, why should I do it all by myself?

{{{{hugs}}}} For you and Elaine.

I've been saying that all morning - I could have *problems*. This is an inconvenience with some paperwork attached!

Every single person I ran into was as nice as they could be. I have temporary everything now, and will have all my stuff in a week or so.

Got a Panera salad.

The mechanic on the corner is going to fix my van window tomorrow, and even at the HIGH end it will be less than other places quoted - but he thinks he can do it for about $60.
