Either they are burnt out, or not connected right or I don't know. Ha. I just touched a branch last night and a group magically turned on. I need to fiddle with it more. I don't want to fiddle with it. And I probably have to go get more bulbs. What. A. Pain.

Morning!

I had to chuckle this morning when fast food workers in Detroit were striking and they want $15 an hour, for a "livable wage." Huh. When I sub teach (considering I'm shaping young minds, teaching the future of our country with a BA and an MA), I barely make like $12 an hour. So, excuse me, if I don't get behind their thinking they need more money!!

Plus, our teachers are out on Thursday mornings holding signs that they are "still dedicated" even though they are working without a contract. Well, if they don't want their job, I'll happily take it! I guess I just object to the word "dedicated." They're just smart and know that if they walk off, there are 10,000 applicants out there that would happily take their place.

I like your tree. At least it's not a beast, like mine.

The same thing happened to us. I had a string of lights that was only lit on one half. I found an old light tester in the bottom of the storage tote, touched it to the non-working side and Poof! All the lights came on. Our biggest trouble with lights is trying to find white wire. Ahh, the joys of a white Christmas tree.

I don't have anything against fast food workers, mind you. Just wanted to say that. Heehee! ;0)

Corey took a sociology class last semester. They talked a lot about the gap between the rich and the poor and how many people are living below the poverty line. I'm sure what they are making isn't a livable wage with what everything costs nowadays.

Busy day today. Spent 3 hours as a floating sub (the gig where I go to a new class every 30 minutes), then I relieved the sub secretary for an hour, and then I subbed music. Just got home from 2 hours at Huntington! Phew. Plus, I squeezed a Meijer trip in there too!

I offered to sub for lunch duty, along with an hour of time in a classroom I hate, both Th and F. Money is money, right? ;0) I think it's funny when people think I'm demeaning myself taking lunch jobs or para jobs. Um, hello? If I don't have a sub gig lined up, it's money in my pocket! ;0)
Good attitude! Too many people today think that certain jobs are "beneath" them. Honest work is honest work!

Glad you made it safely in and out! Clipping a tree is a minor deal, comparatively!

It's odd.... fast food used to be considered an "entry level" job. One you took to get started, develop a work history, work around school schedules, or just to supplement your income (think moms who work while the kids are in school). Now people are expecting to support their families on those types of jobs. It's scary.

I remember when I was in retail management and kids would come in for a job. You'd hire them and 6 weeks later they would want a raise. Why? "Because I do my job." Well, I'm paying you exactly what you hired into that job for! So many kids want to work 9-5 for $50k per year, 4 weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays, personal days and benefits in their first job. Well, um, me, too!

Sorry, did I get off track?

Today is one of those days when I need you all to remind me of the good qualities my husband has. I got home yesterday and he had had a bad day (project not going right, ongoing issues with the roof, etc.) and he took it out on me. I'm still stinging today.

I need to put the "Book of Every Bad Thing Jay Has Ever Done" back on the shelf. No, actually, I need to burn it. But I'm having a hard time with that today.

There is a guy in Eaton Rapids trying to get homeless people in Lansing off the streets. He is putting them with an "angel" to keep them on track and with donations of items and money (to keep them in a cheap hotel room), he has helped so many people already. It is unreal how many are moms with children and babies=( I am donating a bunch of toys from Em's bedroom for the kids that have nothing. His thing is we do not need to judge the people. They are on the streets and obviously need help.

Good for him! As many as want help, I'm for helping them! Especially the families. Wow, I cannot imagine trying to raise my kids while living on the streets.

Ran my mom to the DMV. Then we went to HL to get some light bulb replacements for the tree. I hope I can figure that out quickly.

Michelle, I'm sorry Jay was a turd. He is usually not a turd. Just set a timer for five minutes and fantasize about flinging him put the window, kicking him in the family jewels, telling him he is a whiney sissy. Then you have to be done and spend the next 5-10 minutes thinking about how he cleans your car off when it snows, how he ate burnt food with a smile when you first got married, how he has never strangled one of the kids even when they clearly deserved it, etc. Just keep swimming. Love you.

Debra, I hope the lights are an easy fix.

Emma, I'm glad you had a nice dinner. Robin crossing for E.

Patty, I hope today is a better day.

I do not want to go to PT. No, I do not. I should run George right quick and fix my attitude.

Mopped the floor.

Now I am fiddling with the lights.

I have nothing against people working any job. I'm glad they are working. With my students one time, I discussed how one could live on $10 an hour. It is very hard. The students had no clue about taxes, net versus gross, cost of living, etc. I understand it is very hard out there for everyone. A gal I work with, she's a librarian. She makes very little money, as our library here gives her one day a week. She works three jobs trying to make ends meet. I think we have a lot of problems in this country. I can't imagine trying to support my family of 4 on $10 an hour.

The problem I see with raising the minimum wage is that teens can't find a job. Businesses aren't going to give teens a job with minimum wage so high. Not that I think teens should have a job, but raising the minimum wage that high to me is ridiculous. Of course, it is a moot point since it was already raised over thanksgiving. Wasn't it?

Well, I am taking the prelit lights off. Complete sections have burned out bulbs and I am not going to change all of those. Especially since I can't find the right bulbs for the tree. So, I am just going to take these off which is taking forever because each bulb is clipped or zipped to a branch. Then I will just put new lights on.

Just remember. He wasn't in prison for nothing. He had a lot of innocent people killed.

There are people who's job places their lives in danger and they don't make as much as those workers wanting $15 do.
