Shari, I hate it when things like that (raw potatoes) happen! Glad you caught it now, rather than at the school!

Lorien - I don't think you have to tell us what she thinks Carter needs to be tested for. That can be such a private thing.

Hmm. I had better not post the picture of Laura, she's too good at punching. I will let her post a picture from Saturday when she's all dolled up. And this is why I'll never be a professional seamstress. In my twisted mind I was figuring that she could get into the gown in a way that just isn't as easy as it was in my mind. Next gown will be better. Dibs on next year, Laura! I'll get a dress form by then and that should make it easier to fit without you right there.

Off to sew. I got some remnant pieces of fleece with fire engines on it. I don't consider a yard and a half a remnant but apparently Hobby Lobby does. I got a 3 yard piece Monday.

I am fighting the guy on my shoulder that says "open the chips." He's not the one that can't fit into his clothes anymore.

What message would that send - I love you so much teachers, here are some raw potatoes...yuck!

Laura is the best expert here, although if the teacher has documented test scores or evidence of a learning disability, those can be brought to the attention of the learning consultant at school. The social worker/psychologist will help with behavioral, cognitive, or emotional issues. No harm in getting educated, Lorien, as you will be the best advocate to make sure that C's needs are being met. There may not be anything, but I would think it is better to know and have accommodations made instead of having him be frustrated and get down on school.

Wrapping up a couple of things here and then out the door. Hoping I don't get blown away on the way home.

Talk to you all later! Hope everyone has a great night!

Lorien, the school won't usually instigate testing. The parent must request it in writing. They will test for academics, but they don't assess for why the child is behind in a certain area or behaving a certain way without parental request. Draft a letter stating your concerns. Keep a copy for yourself, and give one to the teacher and one to the principal. Without a formal assessment, they don't have to make accommodations. A lot of teachers will try to anyway, but by law it isn't required. I think they have 30 or 60 school days to assess and then meet with the results. It does not mean he will need an IEP. He may only need a 529. His needs may be met in general Ed without any accommodations. HTH. Holler if you have any questions.

One thing I do know is that parents have the power. there were times they wanted to drop pt for Jaclyn. I would say no and they couldn't drop it then. They would claim because she is ambulatory she didn't need it. We would state we want to keep her ambulatory so yes she does.

Haha! I meant a 504. A 529 is how to save for college. My brain has grown moldy.

I knew you'd be the best person to ask Laura! I obviously don't have too much experience in that area...

Got my chowder to school - hope they like it. What a pita carrying it in tho...my gem of a neighbor helped! Next year = rolls!

Set an empty laundry basket on the table, place a large bathtowel in so that the edges hang out of the basket, place the crock in the basket, wrap the ends of the towel around the crock and wrap an afghan around the towel... It should keep everything from sloshing too badly, keep it super hot, and give you handles for it all at the same time.

We transport crockpots of chili to and from Lansing from Bay City this way ALL the time.

Great idea, Jenn! I was going to try a milk crate, but it was so old, I didn't think it was strong enough to handle the weight.

Shari - WOW on the realtor thing. You should definitely not have to pay for services after the contract, and they should have billed you periodically, not 6 months after the fact. That just doesn't sound right. If they refuse to fix it, perhaps you should threaten to contact the Better Business Bureau or someone about it?

She hasn't emailed me back a response yet. I mailed a partial payment today that covered May and June. Since I am disputing some of the later charges, I'll see what happens.

I think I might stamp the greeting on my holiday cards tonight and possibly get the labels printed. Should take a nice photo of the girls and include that with cards to family.

Whoa, Dr. Phil is hard to watch today. A judge whipping his 16 yo with a belt...videotaped...hitting her 18 times. Wow.

The daughter, who was 16 at the time and is 23 now, released the video herself. Don't know who taped it, but anyway she released it because she says she wants him to get help.

Home from work. Hungry!
Cathy, the judge had hit her before, so the daughter set up the video tape herself.

The mother (who is on Dr. Phil as well) was a participant on the video. She says she was a victim too and was terrified of the husband. Scary thinking this guy is an elected official and most importantly, thinks he did nothing wrong. He is the highest elected official in his county and prolly has a bunch of people in his pocket. This daughter has CP and the Dad says she is exploiting her 'special needs,' status.

The reason for the beating: she illegally downloaded music on the Internet, disobeying her parents. Very scary: there is a 10 yo sister at home.
