Uhhh... it sounds suspiciously like you'll be expected to fork over some $$ if you've been told the price.
That's what I'm afraid of. And I have a feeling it's going to be a lot of people too. Our family is tiny, but her fiance's family is enormous. A bajillion aunts and cousins.

It's $22/person for the lunch buffet, including an ice cream sundae bar, and then an extra $3/person if we want the endless mimosa fountain.

Good Lord. I'm going to have to file for bankruptcy by the end of this.

I really don't get it either. So many of my friends have had 9 or 10 bridesmaids, and I wonder why they didn't just have only a few.

That's just it - it's not only the cost of the dress. I'm sure I'll need to have it shortened, if nothing else. I have a lady around here who does a good job for a fairly good price, but still. The dollars keep adding up!

I can't look at PW today. I'm starving. Really all week. Thanks to AF, I'm eating and snacking all the time.

That's how my cousin's wedding is. Huge. She booked an 18 passenger stretch limo for the wedding party!

LOL! That's exactly what we wanted to do -- a destination wedding. My mom guilted me because she said that the grandmothers couldn't be there, so we went with the Georgia coast. Since my grandmother recently passed away, and Cory's grandmother passed away not shortly after our wedding I'm glad that we didn't do it.

When PW says things like this...I end up at the grocery store:
"Freshly whipped cream that, I might add, seeps into the cracks and crevices of the warm fruit dessert."

No no, I don't mean that guests would have to pay. I'm sure it's whoever is officially throwing the shower, but I just don't know if that's just the maid of honor and my aunt, or if we're all going to be expected to chip in.

Say 50 people come, and I imagine it might be more than that, that works out to about $140 from each of us, and that's before tax and gratuity and everything is added in. If we do the mimosa fountain, that's another $20 from each of us.

The other wedding I was in, the bride's sister and mother threw the shower.

I'm getting a little nervous for this one, because my cousin's maid of honor sent out an email saying that the place they've booked for the shower costs $22/person. So does that mean she intends that the whole bridal party splits this thing??
It does sound that way. My friends typically have lots of showers, and I did chip in on them, but they were never anything pricey or even outside of a home.

She and her fiance and my aunt are paying for it. Maybe a little bit from the fiance's family, but I'm not sure. Quite honestly, I don't know how they're going to do it, and fear they're going to get into deep debt to do so.

All this before you ever buy a gift.

Maybe I should be glad I was never invited to be a bridesmaid?

Exactly. Just for the dress and shower alone I'm already at almost $400. Add in shoes, hair, gift, bachelorette party, not to mention all the gas and tolls from driving back and forth to NJ...

ETA: Yes, be glad! If I'm never a bridesmaid again, it will be too soon!

Oh, and the maid of honor wants all of us to make a scrapbook page of us and the bride. Nice idea, but just one more thing for me to dread!

Geez, I'm just a ball of sunshine today, huh?

Yeah, since the first season. It seems like an odd match to me.

On the one hand, it would force me to organize and purge things. But on the other hand, it just seems like an awful lot of hassle.
Do It! you should move...a new view and new outlook and purging...all good things

Oh yeah, they started dated during season one and got engaged last summer. I'm not a Bill fan either, but I don't mind Stephen Moyer so much in real life. Especially because he's got a British accent!

I hate this so much.

This is the dress, but in canary yellow.

Very pretty, but this May be the right moment to speak up and maybe say that you can swing the dress, but need to keep the rest of the wedding related expenses to a minimum

That's exactly what I was just thinking. I think I'm going to say that the dress is ok, but that I'm on a very tight budget and may have to cut corners in other ways, whether it's skipping the bachelorette party, doing my own hair, etc.

I just don't know what to do. I know she would be absolutely heartbroken if I said that I didn't think I could afford to be in her wedding. And she has no money either, so I can't ask her to cover the difference.

UGH. I just know the rest of the bridal party will be totally fine with it and won't say anything. I just don't want to be that PITA that comes across as a total cheapskate.
You are not a cheapskate...you are a single home owner, one income, working poor chick....that is a lot of money and won't be the Only $ you have to shell out...I say speak up rather than put yourself in a bed situation to try to save someone else's feelings. How would she feel if she knew that having you in the wedding would put you in more credit card debt or make it hard to buy groceries? She loves you, that is why she wants you in the wedding, so she would not want to put you in that situation...or if she doesn't care, then she doesn't love you and why would you want to be in her wedding?

WOW, sorry...LOL
