Hahahaha! But you actually make a good point! During fire season here I have a couple containers that are to be grabbed as long as we know humans and pets are safe first!

Lee, congrats! Have fun shopping. Hope your DH made it home safe. I had to leave you all last nite. The grand daughters were here and I had to feed and bathe them while their Mom was at a PTA meeting. I love that you all started this thread....I didn't chat much last night...too busy reading all about what the rest of you were chatting about. the HYCCT challenge was great and I would be up for it next year!!!!!
hugs and smilies to all of you,
joanne

That sounds yummy, I love homemade soup. My favorite thing about this month will be turkey noodle soup after Thanksgiving.

Got a recipe? Not that we'll have leftover turkey but maybe we'll cook another one.

Not really, after take the majority of the meat off the turkey for DH to make sandwiches with, I put the rest of it in a pot with water and let it simmer most of the day, so whatever meat that was still on the bones falls off. It smells so good...I wonder if I could get that smell in candle form...Turkey Stock Scented Candles. The thing I find most time consuming is trying to get all the bones back out of the stock. After that, we usually just slice up some carrots and celery, occasionally other veggies and add those. We just use frozen egg noodles, because I am not about to make those from scratch. Then season to taste. Also works great with roasted chicken.

Yum! We smoke our turkey. I wonder if that would work or if I should just buy a couple of chickens. Hmm. And, yeah, I hear on the bones. No fun.

Since we don't have family here, we normally buy the cornish hens, it's perfect for our family of 4...not much leftovers. Although, the turkey noodle soup sounds good.

That's what I'm making today!
I still need to prep the veg and pick the turkey clean but then I'll start everything simmering and oh my goodness will the house smell great.

Then at the end I'll strain it and add fresh veg and cheese tortellini. If I'm feeling really inspired I might make focaccia but I don't think I have enough flour.

Oh and good morning. Been up almost 2 hours already and have gotten a few things marked off the list!

I love focaccia bread. I usually make it with asiago cheese on it. Huh, the more I am on here, the longer my grocery list gets.

Good afternoon ladies! Getting started on the computer a little late today. Been decorating my altered can for my Wish RAK Secret Santa lady. Just made some corn meal muffins and had a LATE breakfast.

My husband and I drive down to NW Arkansas from Minnesota and I find Northern Missouri much more boring than Iowa! Maybe it's because Iowa comes first and we are still fresh. Hate getting through Kansas City but from there it's a breeze!

Take care everyone!

You should try West Texas, honey child.

There are times on the drive to Santa Fe that we nearly lose our minds.

Plus Artesia smells soooooo horrible.

But then you're in Santa Fe and all is right with the world.

I can't comment much on travelling the interstates/major routes west of the Mississippi River, because my experience with that has been limited to southwestern Missouri, the greater Salt Lake City area, northern California, and the Lake Tahoe area.

My least favorite travelling experience east of the Mississippi is definitely the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Breezewood and Pittsburgh. I HATE that road.

Apparently. Now, in full disclosure, I'm in Southeast Texas. From here it's the entire width of the state. And there's just nothing. At least that's how it was a few years back. Maybe it's fully populated with Starbucks now.

You know....we don't mind it!! I think if we had to do it all the time it would get old.....but most traveling we find enjoyable! We love road trips and have trekked all over since the time our kids were tiny!

Ohhh Santa Fe.....we do enjoy it! Maybe someday we'll meet there Lydia!!! And then a bit farther to Taos....there is the best bakery around!!!! Uh Oh....more food talk from me!!! Heehee!!

Yeah, that is a long drive, but really the thing I like about West Texas is that it doesn't have near the humidity of SE Texas. That and I like being able to see forever and a day. It's why I like where I live now as well, with the exception of the fact that all 4 of the Starbucks are in stores and every single one burns the espresso.

I agree - I love the high desert. I would definitely live in a dry place if I had the choice.

What IS it with burning the beans? My regular store does that too. Eww.

I love living in the high desert. I could sit outside all day and watch the clouds moving across the ground at lower altitudes. I am easily entertained. I think I have taken more pictures of the clouds, sunrises, sunsets and rainbows since we moved here than I have of cards.

I really would love a good Starbuck's here. I have to drive an hour to get one though, of course I have to drive that far to go to a craft store too, so I always go to both when I am in the area.

Don't they still have Ben Franklin Crafts in Arizona? I used to go there when I lived in Scottsdale.
