but, after looking for over an hour now he *thinks* he found one...
( he started out with 2 five gallon buckets of cucumbers from the garden to use up...) and so...
I bet the canning book I bought has one in it. Want me to look?

Can't have anything with seeds, because of diverticulitis.
My grandmother has had that for years (probably almost as long as I've been alive) but I don't remember her ever avoiding anything with seeds of course that could explain a lot too.

I've canned before but never relish. I've done tomatoes, peaches, pears and have done applesause (but we prefer it frozen). But not for quite a few years
That (no seeds) is what the Dr. said. I miss so many foods (tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, the list goes on and on). However, I do have pain when I eat them, and diverticulitis can be very dangerous, if not managed well.

He hasn't had any seizures since Wednesday, when he had 3 or 4 seizures, but they're still not sure exactly what caused it -so yes and no. He had a 101.5 fever, but that's not usually high enough to cause a seizure and my ped wouldn't even see an 18 month old with that temp. So Harrisburg Hospital is going to set up an appointment with a ped neurologist for them to investigate farther. My brother/sil are really paranoid/scared that it's going to continue to happen and he's run a 99 degree fever off and on since Wednesday which freaks them out even more.
I'm no help either Stacy! Of course your husband is one up on me in that he know how to can. I have never canned anything in my life but would love to have someone local that could teach me.
Do you have a local fair? If so, I would try going there and seeing if they have a canned/preserves division and try asking around there.

Well, it isn't the same as eating them fresh and whole, but I would think you could do tomato sauce type stuff, and make strawberry sauce for on ice cream or something if you smushed & then strained?

All you need for canning is a copy of the "Ball Blue Book". It tells you everything you need and has lots of recipes. Start out with jams or jellies (so easy), and work your way up to the fancy stuff. I tried dill pickles once and couldn't get them crisp enough for my taste.

My biggest purchase was from the Impression Obsession booth. I was sucked into their dies they started carrying and had to buy the matching stamps to some of them.
Yes, I can have tomato sauces, etc., as long as they don't have the seeds. For example, I now have to make chilli with tomato sauce instead of a can of chopped tomatoes. No big deal.

My Mom has it too, when she fusses i just say well you know what your not to eat. But i guess it's hard to avoid everything ALL the time!

There are seedless tomatoes(and cucumbers).....think my dad planted some this year??
Janice, you are so right! It is not worth eating anything to take the risk involved. I personally know two ladies who have been near death within the last six months. They both have diverticulitis and let it get out of control. When you get infection in your intestines, your life is on the line. I will pass on the tomatoes

Suzanne, do you guys have an it's a gov't thing part of the university outreach type program... they have food preparation classes... um master gardener programs that kind of thing... minds blank on the actual name of it because, he started rattling off another relish recipe out loud right before I typed the name and now my minds blank.

Yeah my Mom tried making Dill pickles....not so good! I'll stick to Vlasic!
Hubs has both of the older ball blue books... there is a new version out now, he has not looked at it yet but the way recipe sites are going he expects it to read (get a package of this or or a package of that)
jam is the easiest thing to start with, and so fruits are not bad. ( things like that go in a water bath) and the book lists like time limits. ( its not cheaper to can its healthier)
some things need to be pressure canner canned though ( like green beans or smoked fish...)
this site has a recipe for relish... (they may have canning tech. too?)
All this talk of pickles - had to go get some to eat from the fridge.
And no vlasics in this house. Has to be Bicks, and preferably the baby dills, tangy no garlic.
Always very crunchy.

Jen pinned this: Party Ideas! / popcorn bar
and I followed the links to the original post, and then to the company she bought her products from. We have a popcorn chain up here, and you can buy their seasonings in jars - but none of them are dairy free.
This company has some that are dairy free! Not all, in fact the majority DO have milk, but they do have a few that are "safe" according to their nutritional list. YAHOO! Gonna have to hunt for them next time I play 'merikun. Chocolate Marshmallow? Apple Cinnamon? Caramel? Yum. Salt & Vinegar would probably be interesting too.
(And yes, they do ship outside the US, but listed shipping price is $45. Uh no, I don't think so.)

Kind of wish I had pickles in the house. Not something I eat enough of to keep on hand but the bday parties I've been to lately hasn't served them either.
I didn't realize that diverticulitis was something that stuck with you. A friend has it and I thought it was just a one time issue.
My mom has Krone's disease and needs to be aware of things she eats that can cause flare ups also...lettuce/greens, nuts, seeds too I think. She doesn't want to end up getting a piece of her intestine removed again.
I always have several different kinds of pickles on hand! Dill spears or baby whole, Bread and Butter slices and then relish of some kind, Oh and Olives too!
Kind of wish I had pickles in the house. Not something I eat enough of to keep on hand but the bday parties I've been to lately hasn't served them either.
It is one thing I pretty much ALWAYS have in the house. Lilbro3 and I both love them. When we were overseas & they were not easy to get and $$$, I used to get a jar of them in my stocking every year.
