OW! Was taking my glasses off to clean them and managed to stab myself in the eyeball with my finger.

Actually, this is really abnormal. I've very rarely heard it running for more than the average 10-15 min. Which is why when I posted earlier, I was concerned about someone being hurt - like fallen & hit their head in the shower or something. But since I've heard them moving around & the shower has been off at some points, it clearly isn't that.

I am testing out lots of crockpot recipes. So far I have 10 that I consider awesome.... and have started a word file with all of them. Those I have pinned on pinterest are some I am going to test out.

I'm surprised SU lets people rejoin that often.

Evening! I have done nothing today but run.

Went to a craft/vintage sale this morning with my neighbor. Came home long enough for lunch and left again to go look for school curriculum. One hour each way and then hubby & I spent 2 hours in the store. Only bought the English/Writing curriculum and reading comp curriculum. Ended up even more confused with the rest of it.

Did you find anything neat at the vintage sale?

I collect vintage sewing notions. Found some old wooden spools, and a brass thimble this morning.

Had my nails done in Halloween French (orange with black tips)

I saw a glass juicer - Vintage Glass Hand Juicer Hand Reamer | eBay

But I didn't buy anything. There wasn't a ton of stuff.

I need to do my toenails but don't feel like it tonight.

I need to go add to my post that others that I have 'in stock' can be substituted for the three I've picked.

Tami...Kelly...Arlene are y'all still here?

What do you teachers think about this? - HTTA - Time Travelers History Study Series . This is what I'm thinking about using for my history curriculum. The woman at the education store and hubby think I should start with the New World one and work through them chronologically. I really want to start with the Civil War one. What do y'all think?

I'll go check them out

Jen- I was just thinking- if I won I would have you give the dots (only because I don't really use backgrounds) and the books one (because I have it already) to another winner

Suzanne- here's my suggestion- find out what exactly the state standards are for history/social studies for his grade (these are on the state dept of tn education site) and see which ones are "priority". Do those- and go deep with them doing them well, then, as time and interest allow- move on to some of the others.

What grade is he in?

I found a place where I can have stamps custom made! I have been wanting a couple of quotes on pins from pinterest made into stamps. I thought about ordering one or two to try out the quality (they are wood though) before ordering more- BUT, they don't take paypal- only credit card and I would love to use my paypal first....

5th. Just curious but why do I need to worry about the state standards since we are home schooling and do not have to take TCAPS?

some of Our homeschoolers still do take TCAPs- they take them during a different time so I don't know. And, if you ever put him back in public school he would have to go back to taking those tests and if he isn't exposed to what they are teaching in public school then he may struggle when it's time for them.

since we registered through a christian umbrella school this week we are not required to do TCAPs but I can request that he do a Standard Achievement test. The plan is to home school at least until high school and then he won't have TCAPs either.

I was looking at the state standard for history just now and I want to know how anybody makes heads or tails inn understanding that?

it's a pain- and when I looked at what the state site says- that may be the old standards. Let me talk to one of my fifth grade teachers next week and see what she says. They have the new Common Core standards but I'm not sure if they have separate ss/history/science standards. Nothing I am finding says that they do but I'll confirm with her.

Evening.

Field trip done and boy was it chilly. Get this...email sent twice had the times, eat lunch FIRST and dress warm for the weather with mittens and hats because it will be cold and we'll be outside. Our Troop has two leaders and nine girls went...one girl was hungry because dad didn't feed her lunch, another didn't even have a coat (because she'd been outside all day and was fine) and I was to drop her off at the ice arena because their son had hockey), another girl was freezing in her purple hooded leather jacket, and another was all talk in the van telling scary stories and couldn't wait to do all the things (until we get there and she was scared and wanted to go home because she might throw up ). Oh and another was 10 minutes late.

Overall though, it was good and the girls were all well behaved.

Not if you are registered through an umbrella school believe me I've researched it. I hate the state testing that everyone does now and how they are making it count as part of the grades. There are some kids that no matter what just don't test well and for these kids to be told that if they don't do well on them they may not pass the grade makes me crazy because it put a terrible pressure on them.

Ds2 is in all these summer school and extra help programs because his scores on the state tests imply that he may not pass the one needed to get his diploma...even though he's been on the honor roll. One year he's hi/lo/avg on the reading, the next it's lo/hi/hi.

His English teacher just said at conferences that he did well on the reading tests, and also isn't in the extra reading class this year, although the majority of the 7th grade is in an extra math class this year (pilot test to see if it makes a difference...in place of study hall).

oh I hear ya- this is my school- a lot of our kids don't test well.. and for us it's also getting the parents to understand that now it is part of their grade...
