Remember the pictures I took of the folks before my mom's class reunion in September? In one picture they're both smiling and looking cute. In the next picture my dad is looking down my mom's top and she's laughing.

I'm trying to decide whether to put one or both pictures in the paper for their 55th anniversary. If I use the second picture, my brother in Cali and I think I better not use their real names. LOL I don't think dad would mind if I use the second photo, but my mom might (pretend to be) embarrassed by it.

I thought it'd be cute to have:

1st picture: the serious one.

Text: Still crazy after all these years.

2nd picture: the silly one.

Text: Happy 55th wedding anniversary, with love from your children.

Or something like that.

No doubt quite a few people will recognize them, even if I don't identify them by name.

Christmas music pulled out of storage--check!

Living room thoroughly dusted and vacuumed--check!

Then I had to quit for a while because the dusting and vacuuming gave me a migraine (it often does).

Christmas tree brought up from the basement--check! And I got the lights reconnected but I'll wait until tomorrow to fluff it up and start decorating. Maybe I'll do that while watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

Nighty night!

Happy Monday!

Anyone doing any cyber shopping today? I did mine over the weekend but I might order a couple of things to be shipped directly to the folks and to my brother in California.

And FYI--it's now OFFICIALLY the Christmas season! Why do I say that? Because I saw an ad for Chia pet! Seriously--do you see ads for Chia pets at any other time of year? I don't. LOL

Hola.

I did some cyber shopping today - which is VERY shocking because I am NOT in the spirit at all. BOO HOO!

Our 4 year anniversary is on 12/11 so I can just pretend it is for that instead of Christmas, right?

Hope all is well. Gotta scoot....I have a VERY dusty house that needs to be tended to.

If someone can find my lost Christmas spirit PLEASE send it my way, K?

I've heard horror stories about hand-painted cabinets that chip really bad around the edges, around the knobs/pulls, etc. I suppose because people didn't prep them properly or use the right kind of paint?

One reason they are not done yet....LOL They have some kind of finish on them now and I am afraid nothing will stick. Not very many. I might could take the cabinets somewhere and do the base myself.

Hi all!

Busy day of running around so I didn't get anything done at home. It is going to be warm the next few days but possible rain showers. At this point my windows are SO bad, that even a little raindrops on clean windows will look okay.

Oh, Granny! I haven't heard "might could" in a loooooong time.

Mom refinished our kitchen cabinets, but she did not paint them. She left them natural (originally they had a really dark stain).

Morning. I hope the sun comes out today. It hasn't been all that cold, but I don't want dreary days . . . .

We were super foggy today and had some rain. Some schools further north had delayed starts this morning and are cancelling events for this evening because of it.

The sun did come out for a little while today. Tomorrow and Thursday we could get high temps in the 60s. I will HAVE to wash windows. Even if we get rain later in the week, these windows look AWFUL.

Warm and foggy here, in advance of the cold and snow coming. It's the spooky kind of fog that would be good on Halloween.

I accomplished a lot today. Worked, of course. Voted (run-off election for city council). Raked leaves. Walked some mail over to the T&O neighbors because it got delivered to our house by mistake. And I ran a bunch of errands: Kohl's, Menards, Staples, grocery store, Wally's. The only place I didn't get to was the post office. It wasn't "on the way" and I decided I was DONE with errands for the day. lol

I've done a little Christmas decorating. The tree is fluffed out but still bare. I started with the other decorations first and it's taking me a little longer than normal because I'm keeping track (making a list) of what is in each bin as I take stuff out. I had to take extra time last year when I packed everything up, to fit everything back into my bins, because I bought a few new ornaments. I'm hoping by making a list of what goes in each bin, it won't take me as long to pack things up after Christmas.

At least, that's the plan.

Hi. Foggy here, too. We are talking about state of mind, right? oh, weather, you say? Just clouds today. So sunny Monday my face got sunburned.

Online with the water company to set up service at new house.

Can hardly wait to be in a house where I can use my computer with working internet.

Hugs!

Lori - I'm so excited for you!!!! Finally!!! Your family deserves this!

I managed to wash one window today. Yep - one. Because I am out of Windex! I know I could use other things, but I like Windex. I asked the girls if they would help me put out some decorations tomorrow.

Did I tell you all that Bill is in England again? This time he has working cell service so he's been able to call the last two days. He comes home on Saturday.

Most of what I am putting out is Snowmen related. That way when it stays up through the Winter it will be fine....LOL

Actually, both. I have NO get and go today. The old brain got set to snooze, apparently. I need some of your sun (but not enough to get sunburnt--owie!)

Very short school day today: 2 hour delay because of the fog; 2 hour early dismissal because of the fog. Yet somehow it counts as a full school day for state requirements. No wonder our kids are falling behind.

When are you officially moving, Loribelle? Next week?

JoJo: did Bill have that conference call on Thanksgiving or did they reschedule it? Glad he has cell phone service this time.

Better one window than none.

One of my mom's friends (in AZ) was in a car accident yesterday. Later at home she passed out cold and they had to call the ambulance. She ended up having surgery for a blood clot in her brain, and is in an induced coma for 3 days.

Bill was supposed to have a conference call at 8 a.m. He forgot about it! That has NEVER happened. Since it was a conference call there is a chance no one actually missed him

How scary and sad for your mom's friend! Hope she is okay. Julie's best friend's mom was in the hospital before Thanksgiving. Blood clot in her leg and a few small ones in her lungs (or near there). She was at the doctor this week and she still has some but the meds are working. She is out of work at least another week or two.

Since my kitchen is blue and white, I'm now thinking I'd like a few snowman things to decorate in there for the season. Of course, now that I'm looking for things, I can't find them. I know I saw a few items last year. Oh well, I don't need it or need to spend the money.

Winter has arrived here! I think the high today was only about 47. Overnight should drop down to about 25 the next few nights. Brrrrrrrr

I've been lurking and reading the past few days, but not posting. I've been in kind of a funk lately and I don't want to spread it around.

I bought most of my Christmas stuff back in the 1990s, when I had my own place to decorate and the money to do it. Many items were purchased in the Amanas (German settlement near here) or at arts and crafts shows, so they're unique or hand-crafted versus mass-produced. And of course many of them are vintage style. There used to be a year-round Christmas store in Main Amana that had all kinds of pretty things, some by local artisans.

Then I went about a decade of no decorating at all or minimal decorating--and no tree. Last year was the first year that I put up a tree in a long, long time (bought the new skinny tree which I love). And I bought three Czech glass ornaments at the museum last year. I'm going there this weekend and may pick up a couple more. They're kinda pricey so it will take me a while to build up a collection.

I talked to my mom last night; she had a few updates about her friend. I guess the surgeon was more optimistic after the surgery than he was going in. The clot was on the outside of her skull (?) which is not as dangerous. And apparently even though she's in a light coma, she is responding to people. So they're hopeful that she'll recover.

What's ironic (in a good way) is that the paramedics who answered the call were the same ones who were at the car accident she had earlier in the day. And they recognized her. As soon as they knew that, they rushed to get her to the best trauma center.

They think maybe her getting hit by the airbag caused the clot??? I think that's a good reason to go to the ER and get checked out after an accident even if you "feel OK."

Tree is done! I even have a present to put under it this year. (The cordless vacuum I bought for mom and me. )

I have one little decorating thing to do, and then I'm going to call it enough for this year.

The tree looks beautiful. I should probably get a skinny one like that for the living room. It would fit better. I wonder if I can convince my family . . .

Glad the news for your mom's friend is better. And it does seem like a blessing the paramedics were the same! Might have made a huge difference.

Kristi - I was in a funk all last winter. Hope yours passes quickly. I hate feeling that way. I can sort of feel it starting already. I have no real desire to decorate this year and I haven't even started cards or my annual letter or anything. Not a good sign.

It was so very, very foggy here today that it felt like it was misting/raining all day. I decided not to do the windows. Well, I have one more 'warm' day but it is supposed to actively rain tomorrow. I'm just going to have to deal with it and get these horrible, dirty windows clean.

Of course, I have a weather-induced headache right now. Joy.

And, now, for your musical entertainment: Play that funky music white girl.....

Yes, I thought that would make you smile. Then make the song get stuck in your head & slap me upside my head.

Hugs Kristi!

Baby it's COLD outside. But at least we're dry.

I've been snuggled under my afghan watching Animal House (and flipping back and forth to Project Runway).

Finally found the temperature: 13 degrees right now; down to 3 overnight. BRRR!

DO IT! That's why I bought mine: we don't have much room to spare-and I just plain like the shape. (And the fact that the lights are already on it.) I got mine for about $60-70 at Menards (like Home Depot) last year. Do you already have an artificial tree? You could always donate it if you don't have room to store both.
