So, would you like to hear how it's been 70-72 the past three days, and the forecast for the next week is the same?

Trudging along the past couple of weeks, trying to take care of my toddler, I mean mother. We got to the point where she was *only* falling every 2 or 3 days, instead of 2 or 3 times a day.

Her feet have been fairly swollen the past few days, and last night they started hurting her, so she finally let me take her to the ER. They diagnosed her with blood clots in her legs, and a UTI to boot. Because she has been, umm, difficult about taking her meds lately (and told three people three different stories as to why she hasn't been taking them), they decided to keep her for a few days to administer blood thinners.

Hopefully her doctor will work with me to have her admitted to a skilled nursing facility afterwards, for at least a little while.

Just got my exercise for the day which means...?

I shoveled snow!

There wasn't much, but some spots were icy/slippery. I decided to get it cleaned up so I could throw down some ice melt in strategic places while it's still warm enough for it to work.

And the mailman misdelivered a piece of mail for the T&O neighbors (for their granddaughter, actually), so I walked that over to them. They invited me in but I said no, because I wanted to get the snow taken care of. And then the husband hollers out from his chair, "Another one of my classmates died! Down in <his home town>. I'm reading the <home town> newspaper."

Thanks for letting me know, Town Crier.

We have been collecting skeleton keys and we are addicted. They are just so mysterious to me. I saw that they had old postcards there so I can pick some up if you would like.

That sounds cool, Shanon! Pics?

We had some snow flurries this morning. Apparently, our weather pattern is something different every 36 hours. Doesn't that sound like fun?

Bill and I have decided to go to my parents tomorrow. We like to go for the whole weekend, but we're just going Fri/Sat. At least it is something. We're going to take our old lady dogs with us - Scarlet and Tiki.

Scarlet's surgery is scheduled for Monday. Her blood work came back just fine! YAY!

That sounds like fun! Are you displaying them in some way?

One thing I do look for is pictures of WWI soldiers. Sometimes they are " picture postcards ," sometimes just photos. You can tell they're WWI by their uniforms (see guy on left--especially the leather, lace-up things they wore on their lower legs). It doesn't matter if there's anything on the back--often the picture postcards have no writing on them, no stamp, have not been written on, nothing. BUT, finding these often means shuffling through piles of old pictures and I do not want you to spend your precious time doing that. YOU HEAR!!

If you see any old fashioned math flash cards, like these , or old game cards (color doesn't matter) I wouldn't mind a few. I probably wouldn't pay more than 25 cents apiece for them, even less if they'll haggle with ya. LOL

We'll probably visit some antique shops when I'm in AZ.

I'm humbled that you even thought of me and made the offer! That makes me feel super special.

Most things I like are from the 1920s-1940s. You can usually tell the difference between older game cards (like the ones I linked to) versus newer ones like from the 1960s-1970s. The older ones won't have a slick/shiny coating on them.

And they can be beat up a little. That gives them character.

Doesn't bother me one bit! LOL! WE've had a tad more variety than you: 66-76 for high's. I'll duck & cover with you while they pelt us with snowballs.

That sounds like us. I don't think we ever get out of drought conditions. A good rain means the beginning of the next drought. Hope you get rain. Fire hazard is scary!

My Bethany loves skeleton keys. She's kind of got that Tim Holtz style in her work. But only SOME of it. She's super picky about what she likes & doesn't like. She likes gears, skeleton keys, etc., but then likes a huge panorama of color---BRIGHT color. She hasnt' picked paint for the bedroom walls b/c she can't find the EXACT shade she wants. She needs to work for Pantone.

Have fun antique shopping!

Miss I, those T&O neighbors are something else. And, I agree with your comment on FB. You DO have the craziest aunt! When do you go to AZ?

Jo Jo, enjoy your trip to see your folks. I'd love to meet them. They sound so wonderful. SO glad Marie is feeling (and acting) better.

Granny, napping at the wheel? Glad you got that nap in.

something I just realized: Eating NY style pizza (where you fold it in half so the crust is on the outside) is like having an Italian Taco!

I think my parents are pretty awesome. I know I'm very, very blessed to have them both in my life. Dad at 90!

Kristi - my mom's cousin just went to a nursing home due to dementia or Alzheimer's -I'm not really sure what he was diagnosed with. He's been falling a lot, too. His wife had been caring for him and she is 80 and has her own health issues. She's the one who just feel and broke her hip. She got a total hip replacement and is in rehab at least 6 weeks. The 'kids' (my age) were caring for the dad/husband. One night he had the one son up every hour. Now that he is in the nursing home, he has better medical care (he's diabetic and other things) and she can focus on her healing. She still feels guilty about putting in the nursing home, but it really is for the best.

Hey Shanon - how are your babies? My Scarlet needs to have surgery to have an eye removed.

Hey Jo Jo. I am so very sorry about your baby. 2 out of my 3 are going downhill fast. Just when I think "this is it" they bounce right back. If is so frightening. I'm not sure what to do anymore.

I'm going to call it a night and go cuddle with my kindle.

Muah to all!

MISS I....I was one of the youngest in my class but I was tiny to boot....LOL

I had to sit on books at the lunch table to reach....LOL

I think I turned 6 in November in the First Grade. Cut off back then was Dec 31st. Some of my classmates were turning 7 at the beginning of the year.

I was 16 going into my Senior year.

You were just a little squirt, Granny!

For some reason my mom started school early, too. She doesn't know why (I don't think it was because she was an exceptionally bright kid, if you know what I mean. No offense to my mom! LOL). She was only 17 when she graduated.

I bought a necklace at the mall the other day. I almost didn't buy it because it had a small clasp (lobster claw style) and because of the way the necklace is designed, it was hard to get a grip on the clasp to open it. It wasn't exactly a cheap necklace--it's Anne Klein.

But I bought it anyway, because I liked it and I figured I could fix it. And I did! I dug into my stash of jewelry findings and replaced the clasp with a magnetic one that makes it super easy to get the necklace on and off.
