There was a cemetery there too. Well over 100 years old.

What a beautiful spot, Granny. Is there a walking trail to it?

The scenery reminds me of the little waterfalls around the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.

You'll have to go back in the spring or summer when everything is green.

I wouldn't worry about it, Granny. The airlines are making so much money by gouging everyone for baggage fees, seat fees, etc.

We saw more of the forgetfulness today & when she went to the garage on a hunt for something totally unrelated to what we had said, Phil asked Lester if he's seeing that in her. He said in the last 6 months it's really been getting worse. I think dh & I need to figure out what our plan of attack is for the future.

We hit Marshall's, Michael's, Bath & body works & claire's. Then had to drive to Walmart, where I spent more than I had planned on. The girls got some good deals. I got a box of 10 puzzles at Michael's & used a 50% off coupon, then they had a 40% off all regular priced items, so the few other things we got were 40% off. I did stock up a bit at B&BW, where I only shop if things are on a good sale. Natalie loves it & somehow her sensitive skin can handle their products except when it's super cold & the eczema flares up. Then nothing helps, not even the $65 prescription lotion the doctor had us get. We got cute outfits for the great nieces. I wanted them to have matching outfits, so we found 4 tops that were the same style, but 3 different colors. They had a 4th color but it was grey & I just didn't like that for a little girl. We got different leggings/pants for all of them. Then I realized I forgot to get something for Moriah's first birthday! Oh, dear! I'll need to find something before I give these things to my nephew to take to Houston.

I love being able to check in with y'all, especially when you didn't post too much for me to catch up on! LOL!

And I KNOW you've missed my long stories.
ha, ha!
FER SURE!!

Sorry to hear about the changes you're seeing in MIL. Reminds me of what Doug said about his mom. Definitely she should see her doctor and get a referral to be tested for dementia and Alzheimer's. Make sure her DH or somebody goes with her and goes into the examining room to describe the changes--otherwise it's easy for the patient to fool the doctor into thinking nothing is wrong.

Totally random.

I'm sure you've seen those infomercials for the shampoo called Wen, being hawked by that scroungy looking guy. (I want to tell him: Prince had that look in the 80s, and we didn't find it all that attractive then. LOL)

Well, look at what I stumbled across when looking up something in my dictionary.

wen : a cyst formed by obstruction of a sebaceous gland and filled with sebaceous material.

I wonder if the developers of Wen knew this when they chose the name of their fabulous new product?

Granny - that place looks awesome. Cool that it is so close!

Lori - sorry to hear about your MIL. I worry about my parents. With my dad being 90 and mom at 78, I know it can happen. I have been concerned a few times because mom will tell me something more than once. However, since we don't talk every day it is possible she doesn't remember she told me. I sometimes do that, too. Mom did call me tonight to tell me her cousin (who is more like a sister to her) fell today and broke her hip. Cousin Betty is 80, her husband is 83 and he has dementia and other physical problems. I have no idea where her husband is going to go while she is in the hospital and rehab. I feel for their sons who are having to deal with this right now.

Miss I - are you counting down to AZ yet? Bill and I are going to plan a trip to FL(or someplace warmer and sunnier) for Jan or Feb. I don't want to feel like I did last winter.

The countdown will start January 1. I gotta get through the end of the year first.

I have been thinking a little about the clothes I'll take. Normal high temps then are usually in the 60s but it can get as high as 80s. I can wear short-sleeves most days (or 3/4 sleeves). But it gets chilly at night (40s), and it can be cold and windy out at the softball diamonds if they play a morning game. I always take a light jacket and tops I can layer (I need something warm for when I get off the plane here at home anyway). I always take too many tops. I have 8 days to plan for (plus 2 travel days) and I can wear things twice and/or do laundry while I'm there, so I'm going to try to cut back on how much I take this year.

My suitcase was 4 pounds over the limit on my return flight. The ticket agent said if I could remove 2 pounds, she wouldn't charge me the extra fee. Luckily I had some craft things right on top that I could pull out and put in the tote bag I was carrying.

Internet was out for a while. I hope it's not weather related. It's only 4 degrees now and it's heading down to -11 actual temperature (wind chills lower than -20). BRRRR! I pulled some chili out of the freezer to have for supper.

I returned the first printer to Staples. That helped declutter the office a little bit. I did a little dusting also, Granny.

I'm doing laundry and some crafting. Gotta get my mom's bday card (Jan 1) and the folks' anniversary card (Jan 3) in the mail tomorrow.

The anniversary announcement was in the paper today and they did a good job of cropping the photos. The color also looks good. I wonder what my folks will think of it? LOL If my mom complains about the one photo, I'll tell her, "That's why I didn't include any names."

Rhetorical question: How long after Christmas can companies keep showing Christmas-themed commercials?

You've seen all the "dustables" we have, right?

I'll work on putting Christmas stuff away this week. It shouldn't take me long.

The new cordless hand vac I bought works pretty well. I tested it out around the back door (landing and basement steps). You know that area where stuff always gets tracked in, but where it's hard to maneuver a regular vacuum?

Washer has quit and I need to get back to my crafting. Will check in later.

Evening. I haven't done much of anything today. I didn't sleep well at all last night. No idea why - but I didn't fall asleep until after 4. It was a pouring down rain day. I don't know how much rain we actually got, but we have two ponds starting in our backyard.

I have to clean up this house, work on laundry (lots to fold and put away, more to wash) and put away Christmas. Not sure when that will actually get done though.

Evening/morning. LOL

HURRAY! I was able to reinstall my old photo editing program without having to hook up my old printer, which was a HUGE relief. Let's hope I have this whole printing/scanning/photo editing business figured out finally.

Will you come here and take down my tree and clean my bathrooms, Granny? We might have snow Thursday/Friday (that is to make you really want to come here).

Things aren't going too well around here. My mom fell in the garage the day after Christmas. Took her to the ER because she hit her head on the cement floor. She checked out fine, so they sent her home. But she hasn't been the same since. She's extremely week, and can barely walk. Several falls (luckily on carpet), with the latest resulting in a black eye. Some mental issues going on as well. She has an appt with her doctor on Thursday, and I'm hoping to convince him to admit her to a nursing home for a couple of weeks (at least) to get her strength back. And I've got a home health agency coming in for a couple of hours each morning starting tomorrow to bathe her, etc.

I will be so happy when this year is over.

More new snow for us on Monday, in spite of the cold temps (7 was the high for the day). I never heard how much snow we got, but it was probably about 2-3 inches at our house. Because of the cold it's the light, fluffy stuff and very sparkly. It's like movie snow. So it's pretty to look at, but you still have to shovel it. And it's slippery to drive on. On the news they said there were numerous accidents in the afternoon and a lot of cars in the ditch. One crash big enough to make the news was on the interstate/freeway at the exit nearest us.

3-5 more inches of snow predicted for New Year's Eve and Day. Blech.

Kristi - I am so sorry! My mom's cousin (like an aunt to me) fell while IN the hospital. Broke her hip. Found out she had a total hip replacement. Her husband has either dementia or Alzheimers and is not doing well. Their sons are trying to figure out how to get care for him while she is in the hospital. He really should be in a nursing home - he is too difficult to care for at home. HUGS to you and I'll add you to my prayer list.

We have decided we are not going to NY this weekend. Weather is too iffy. Snow storms Thursday into Friday and it is heading north - as we would be. It just isn't worth the hassle. Hoping to reschedule for next weekend. Depending on Bill's schedule.

Hope everyone has a good New Year's Eve. Julie and Marie's friend Anne is coming over with her boyfriend. We're just doing pizza for dinner. I'd love to play some games, but I seem to be the only one who wants to do that.

Granny - I knew about the one family who lost someone. I didn't know there was a second. Losing someone is NEVER easy, but having it happen around this time of year is awful. HUGS. LOVE you too!

I was in bed around 11 last night. My upper arms were ACHING! I was thinking of you, Granny. Are you still being bothered by that? I took Advil and used the heating pad for awhile. It was really uncomfortable. I have NO idea what it is from?

Lisa's former boss/friend and "parent figure" during her teens and 20's passed away.

Yes my arm still hurts. I can deal with it during the day but nights are BAD! I have an appointment next Wednesday.

Happy New Year, Chicas!

Wishing you all good health and much happiness in 2014!

(I chose this one because it's been snowing here all morning!)

It's been slowly but steadily snowing since about 8:00 this morning. We didn't get any snow yesterday but could still get 3-5 inches total out of this.

I'm watching football and de-trimming the Christmas tree. I was going to do that last night during the basketball game, but I was too tired and was asleep by halftime. LOL

I should be taking down Christmas but I am doing laundry. I had so much to fold and put away. Unfortunately, because it saw so long, I'm going to need to iron, too. NOT today.

Granny - so sorry for both losses. It's hard at any time, but not during the holidays. I have a friend that I've only known a few years. Her daughter had died before I knew her. I just found out she died (in a horrible car accident) on 12/21. Christmas has never been the same for them. I can only imagine, but I can so understand why the holidays would never be the same.

So sorry that you have to postpone your NY trip. Better to play it safe although I know you're eager to see Mr. and Mrs. O.

Did you get to play any games? I would play with you if I were there. Maybe next year I need to come to your house for Christmas.
