Aloha!

We left work early yesterday to drive up to Tahoe to see a Huey Lewis concert at one of the casinos. We hit the road later than planned because Becky's mom was almost an hour late picking her up. Then we hit worse-than-usual Friday traffic on the way up there. We wound up sitting down two minutes before Huey hit the stage - talk about perfect timing! It was at an outdoor amphitheater, and the weather was fabulous. We had an amazing time. After the concert we donated a few $$ to the local economy via the slot machines, then checked into the motel and called it a night. And now we're on our way back home. Kaiti spent the night at our house with the pooches, but she left at 6am to go camping, so hopefully we'll be home before noon. Stinking puppy puts a crimp in so many of our plans!

Paid bills earlier & had a headache this afternoon/evening/now. The Lord giveth & the energy company & medical places taketh away.

Tootles!
Lori, thanks for asking...I have been working and otherwise sidetracked. I am overthinking a situation and driving myself nuts. I am ok, don't worry. Just a bit edgey so to speak. The bad thing is I have been unable to eat and sleep well. Which doesn't help. I think I have figured some things out, at least for now.

I'm back!!!! Did you miss me?

Miss I - I LOVE your haircut!!!!! It looks GREAT!!!!

We had a wonderful time. I have unpacked a lot of stuff, but still have a few bags to take care of. I'm very happy that my glasses are in and I can pick them up this week. I really wanted them for cross stitching this week! I finished two little baby samplers that I had started awhile ago.

Will give more details of our vacation later. It is nice to be home. I can't wait to sleep in my bed - the bed at that house is lousy - waaaay too firm for me and I wake up with a backache.

YES, IMMENSELY!

And I'm not joking.

Sorry about the bad bed. Maybe they need to replace it with Sleep Number bed.

Thanks for the comment on my new haircut. Since you saw me recently in person I was wondering what you would think. I kinda wish I had done it before I went to D.C., but I just didn't have time.

Caro, of what country/countries are you a citizen? Does Ecuador have dual citizenship? Have you also lived in England? Just crossed my mind today. I have a friend who is Canadian but has now lived a majority of her life in the states. She keeps her citizenship so that she can have easier access to traveling to see her family. I have often wondered if it's hard for her to live in a country where she has no voting power & if she gets frustrated by those who CAN vote but don't. How do you feel in that situation?

Oh, one more Caro thing: we went to a pool today & I sat next to a lady who had royal blue hair! It was VERY blue! I think she must be naturally blond for it to take so strongly with no hint of brown in it.

Working on my great-niece's birthday gift: a dress with matching dolly dress! So much fun to make for little girls! I didn't get to sew much for mine b/c they were so naughty--um, I mean busy---that I had to keep an eye on them at all times. Now I just ignore them. Bwahahahahahaha!
Lori, Ecuador "grants" dual citizenship status. I used to live in Scotland not England. I will like to becoe an American citizen eventually.

I have been thinking about blue hair again. Its just that it take too much work and I don't think the manager at work will be too happy

Hello friends!

It felt GREAT to sleep in my bed last night. Woke up feeling much more normal! And it was also wonderful to use my own shower! The shower head at the beach leaves a lot to be desired. I never felt like I could wash my hair thoroughly.

Am going to ask my mom if she wants to go to Michael's later today. Also there is a Bath & Bodyworks in that shopping center. Julie's friend had a mango butter that smelled heavenly. She would use that every night after a day at the beach. I need to get me some of that!!!!

Morgen! Que happening? Our little family party for Karis was very nice. Just our family along with my bro's ex-wife & her hubby. Last year there were 2 other sets of grandparents b/c my niece's husband also has divorced parents. Actually, his dad's divorced from his 2nd wife, so it was just 3 grandparents on that side! LOL! My brother told his dad, "We put the fun in dysfunctional." Anyway, watching the 2 little girls play & NOT share very well at times was fun. Holding & feeding great niece 3, Shelby, is always fun. And I took a picture of great niece 4---my niece's shirt over her belly. ha, ha, ha!

The drive wasn't so pleasant. We've had hot miserable weather & of all days, yesterday it chose to rain, nee, pour. Like how I said "nee?" And mom hates the tollway in Houston, so we drove down this LONG flat road, in the right hand lane all the way about 10 miles---meaning the lane with the water standing & splashing up on us---in heavy traffic. Then, driving back, I offered to drive & it poured on the highway to the point that I was going about 40 mph on the highway & feeling nervous at that at some points. Plus it was lightning ahead of us which wasn't comforting! We finally got to my mom's house at about 11:45 pm. We got into the van, drove about 2 blocks (which was several turns) and the power steering went out on me! I called Phil & he said go back to their house b/c it meant a belt fell off & it would overheat. Drove back, having to manhandle the wheel (I have little upper arm strength). Decided we'd take my dad's truck home, but I had to then move the van around the corner to the front of the house. Oh, my! Just glad to be home.

Miss I, have fun shopping with Mom!

Jo, it's so glad to have you home! Are you still Grumpy or are you now Sleepy, Sneezy or Doc? I'm Achey, the 8th dwarf, today!

Caro, thank you for 'splainin that to me! I love people stories. I could really get into history if it were all told in story form!

I need to go back a page & see if Hedgie popped in. And Granny. And Kristi, but I know from FB that K. is out of town.

Have a good day!

As much as I love traveling, I almost always have an issue with the shower. It's never strong enough for my taste. And, with two exceptions, the beds are also usually an issue. The hotel we stayed at in Hawaii had a really comfy bed, and the Omni in Boston had such an amazingly wonderful bed that we still dream about it!

Oh gee Lori, I'm so glad you were still pretty close to your parent's house when the power steering went out, and that you made it home safely. Sounds like you had quite a day!

Don't it though? LOL

Actually it wasn't so bad. We bought a mattress pad at the first place we stopped (Target), so we didn't have to go to Kohl's or to Younkers (department store at the mall). But we were on the other side of town and we knew Mr. Wig would be at home watching the Nascar race, so it's like, "Now what do we do?"

So we went to the nursery on that side of town to see if we could figure out the name of a new plant that my mom got while on their trip. That's kind of hard to do when you don't have the plant or at least a leaf with you. But based on the description one of the gals inside gave us a lead and since we've been home I got on the web and found it. FYI--it's a Bolivian Jew.

After the nursery we went to this cute place called Farmer's Daughter's Market. They sell fresh produce that they grow themselves, they have a little cafe, and they also sell all kinds of "farmer's market stuff", new and old. New things like handmade soaps, Amish (local) jams, mixes for breads, dips, brownies, garden decorations made out of scrap metal, etc. And they also have a few antiques (small things) and just miscellaneous "stuff." Mom found a small wooden stool (looks homemade, painted white) to set her new plant on outside, and we bought 6 ears of sweet corn for dinner. I've already cleaned it and it looks really yummy. Their tomatoes were about the size of softballs. She had fresh garlic for sale. Just a cute, fun place to wander around in.

P.S. Next time I go I need to take my camera. They have a website but it has NO pictures.

I need to go back a page & see if Hedgie popped in. And Granny. And Kristi, but I know from FB that K. is out of town.

Have a good day!
Glad you're home--safe and sound. It's no fun to drive in a thunderstorm like that. Was Phil able to replace the power steering belt?

Your story about multiple grandparents reminds me of a high school friend whose father was on his 3rd wife by the time she got married. He had had a daughter with wife #2 (so a half-sister to the bride), and that daughter was in the bridal party but wife #2 did not attend. I seem to recall there was some bad blood involving wife #2, and there might have been a "fracas" if she had attended. LOL However, wife #3 and her kids were there. The bride's mom had also remarried but I don't think she and her 2nd husband had had any children together.

The picture taking after the ceremony was taking FOREVER due to the wide variety of "family" arrangements that had to be set up. We watched for a while (my friend Karen was matron of honor), but we finally went down to the church basement to wait where they were going to have a cake and punch reception afterward. Years later, I asked the bride if they took a picture of her with JUST her mom and her dad, without any of the step-parents, half-siblings, or step-siblings. She said they did. lol

We have a lot of water pressure in our shower, which is a good thing because it takes a while to rinse the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair.

The sweet corn we got there was AWESOME! The ears were huge, the kernels were filled out all the way to the end, and they were super fresh--the kernels popped when you bit into them. Super yummy.

I miss Andean corn. White and super plump. No too sweet but full of flavor

iHola chicas!

Start of another week. My parents left before 9 this morning and arrived home safely. It is humid and cloudy, but no rain just yet. I thought it was supposed to rain all day, but so far, so good.

I was brave and got on the scale yesterday. It appears I have gained five pounds. Bill doesn't think it could be that much in a week. Especially since I did pretty well until the end of the week, PLUS I walked home from the beach twice and walked up to the bathrooms on the boardwalk about three times a day. I was less sweaty and less out of breath with the walking so I consider all of those things quite positive!

My new glasses are in! I will pick them up tomorrow. Also have some other errands to run this week. Julie goes back to college next week. I really wish she had her license already. It would make all our lives so much easier. Have to PUSH her on this!

Took Kamryn to school.
Came home and took a shower.
Went to art class.
Went to lunch at Red Lobster with Cathi and another girl.
Picked up Kason.
Went to WalMart.
Then came home.

Tonight is Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A. Kamryn's cheerleading squad has been invited to cheer. I will meet Lisa there with Kason.
