I couldn't believe it, but the dad (who can barely walk), practically chased me down to ask me, "Do you know who bought the house the across the street?" I'm like, "No, I don't." (I mean, really, how would I know? I just noticed when I got home from D.C. that there was a "sale pending" sign added to the realtor's sign in the front yard; that was two weeks ago and it still says sale pending.)

Anyway, what he really meant was that HE knew and wanted to tell me.
You could tell he just couldn't wait to tell me that "So-and-so's son bought it." I just kind of shrugged my shoulders. He acted all incredulous, "Don't you remember So-and-So that lived across the street? His son bought the house." I just kept walking and said, "Whatever."

You know how gossips get such a thrill out of being the ones to spread a story around.
It is very interesting to see what people will do to feed their vice

Why is the vice president so called? Is he the president who does bad things? If so, shouldn't they all be called that?

Caro, of what country/countries are you a citizen? Does Ecuador have dual citizenship? Have you also lived in England? Just crossed my mind today. I have a friend who is Canadian but has now lived a majority of her life in the states. She keeps her citizenship so that she can have easier access to traveling to see her family. I have often wondered if it's hard for her to live in a country where she has no voting power & if she gets frustrated by those who CAN vote but don't. How do you feel in that situation?

Oh, one more Caro thing: we went to a pool today & I sat next to a lady who had royal blue hair! It was VERY blue! I think she must be naturally blond for it to take so strongly with no hint of brown in it.

Working on my great-niece's birthday gift: a dress with matching dolly dress! So much fun to make for little girls! I didn't get to sew much for mine b/c they were so naughty--um, I mean busy---that I had to keep an eye on them at all times. Now I just ignore them. Bwahahahahahaha!

Morning!

A little thunderstorm blew through here this morning and we got rain. It sounded so good.

And now it's going to be in the 70s for the next few days--below normal temps. Love it!

Hayfever/fall allergies starting early?

Since everything else has been early this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the fall allergies kick in early, too.

Can you take anything for your nose?

We got almost 3/4 of an inch of rain out of our thunderstorm this morning. Saaaaaaaa-lute!

I had a bunch of small twigs and leaves to pick up, and one good-sized limb fell out of the tree in the front yard. It's a branch that broke a while ago and has just been hanging there, drying up. It's small enough that I'll be able to cut it up myself (i.e., it won't require the chainsaw).

The grass actually looks like it's grown this week. I could mow tomorrow if I got really ambitious.

Dork issue of the day: I was to pick my parents up from the airport at 10:40 today. The airport schedule said the flight was late, but on Southwest's site, it said it was on time. Just to be sure we went on time, drove past the pick up area, which was nearly empty at 10:40, then to the cell phone parking lot (where you can wait for free & get a cell phone call when they arrive). I thought I'd go on my phone & see if SW was still showing the plane on time. That's when I realized I'd been looking at the exact flight---for TOMORROW! Yep, it was late on both sites for today! LOL! Not too late. My dad lost his phone at the airport either when they boarded in Rhode Island or in Baltimore. He put it through the conveyor belt, or whatever they do with them, but didn't remember ever getting it back. So, he had to use an airline phone to call me. He was VERY ready to be home. It stresses him to be out of town anyway, but up north really gets to him. It had poured up there & their suitcases were wet with wet clothes the first night! Yuck! Glad they didn't have any electronics in the suitcases!

I napped almost all afternoon til Natalie finally said, "Mom, it's after 3:00." I guess I was just flat worn out.

Off to do some sewing. Bye!

That's a bummer!

At least you were at the airport on the right DAY.

It's Iowa State Fair week and I've been watching the one-hour fair coverage every evening on public television. I'm carrying on a tradition started by my grandma.

It's a hoot. It makes me want to go every day and enter some of the contests.

I caught a brief glimpse of cousin Claudette, judging one of the food categories, but I think it was footage from a previous year.

Bump. Anyone home?

All of a sudden one of my work-related programs won't open for me the way it should. I've exchanged 18 emails with the office. It will open for me in Internet Explorer, but I want to use it in Firefox the way I've always done.

Computer stuff is so frustrating!

Whew! It took 21 messages back and forth with the office, but the IT guy finally figured out why my program wasn't opening and now I'm back up to speed. First I had to remove the OLD version that the office TOLD us we had to use. Then reboot. Then download the new version, and now the program is working again.

This computer stuff is so frustrating!

While the IT guy was doing research on my problem, I got the tomatoes picked, picked up twigs in the yard, and got the tree limb cut up and disposed of (into the yardy cart for pickup on Monday). It is so beautiful outside! It's like late September temp-wise. Nice for the kids who started school this week already.

I think I'm going to have to go to the Lion tonight just to give away tomatoes. LOL

That website 6pm.com FINALLY got here today (well, UPS got here) and picked up the package they sent me by mistake. I've had it out on the front step for 3 days in a row now, and I was ready to throw the thing into the trash if they didn't get here.

It's not as if I have much use for something like this. It certainly wasn't my size.

Worked on another painting for awhile today. This one is a lighthouse with a storm and rough seas.

Kamryn's first football game is in the morning. She broke her finger last week at the gym,so she will not be doing any tumbling.

I like Firefox much better than IE, mainly because Ad Blocker works on it. lol Firefox is my default browser for everything.

Except for my law school files, because the law school center set up their program for IE. One of the other evaluators discovered it will work in Firefox, but when I tried it the layout was kind of wonky, so I just use IE.

Where is Hedgie? Hope everything is okay!

Heading to Houston for my great niece #2's 2nd birthday. Just finished a dress & matching dolly dress. Meant to get some shoes fixed up for her to match but ran out of time.

Paid bills earlier & had a headache this afternoon/evening/now. The Lord giveth & the energy company & medical places taketh away.

Tootles!

I popped into the Lion late last night. Marylee was working and I had tomatoes to peddle. I had at least 3 cups of cherry tomatoes that I picked Wednesday and Thursday, so I divided them into 3 small baggies to give away. They were a big hit. LOL

My friends "noticed" my new hairdo and said things like, "You got your hair cut!" Not, "Your new haircut looks great." Marylee said that it smelled good and then I think she said it was cute. I guess I don't really remember at this point exactly what she said (other than that it smelled good).

At the end of the evening I developed a pounding headache and had to take 4 Advil just to get home. I got invited to go to breakfast but had to pass. Now I want pancakes and sausage. I wish Ron had taken my offer to take him to breakfast for his birthday (which is today). Maybe I'll just have to go by myself.

I thought of that! Do they still have powder-puff football?
