I've come to the conclusion that gas prices have absolutely no connection to anything -- other than the desires of the oil companies to make money. Prices here just jumped about 25 cents a gallon for no reason at all.

I can't believe I'm willing to punish myself again, but I have ordered some shoes from Zappos. I really need a pair of black dress pumps because the ones I have are too small now. Zappos gave me a $50 coupon because of the problems I had with my first order, and I found a pair on sale that come in a 10-1/2. So I decided to risk it.

As soon as we heard about the fire, we went and filled up all our cars. And sure enough, the next morning prices had gone up by almost 40 cents!

Hopefully it goes better this time! I still swear by Zappos - I love them!

At least this time I'm not under the gun to have the shoes for a particular event. If they don't fit or something is wrong with them, I can return them for no charge and keep looking.

I've known for a while that I needed a new pair of black heels to go with my black pencil skirt or black sheath dress. I just haven't been looking for them because other things have taken priority.

It's crazy. It's greedy, and it's crazy. It never goes DOWN that much overnight.

...giggle...

I just zinged Mr. Wig.

The folks are loading up the motorhome for their trip, and Mr. Wig asked Mrs. Wig if she was going to have cereal for breakfast, or whether he could take the milk out to the RV.

Mrs. Wig: I don't know yet, what are you going to do?

Mr. Wig: I'm going to have some watermelon.

Mrs. Wig: Well (which came out kind of like a little snort ), you should eat more than that.

Mr. Wig: Well then I'll have a banana.

Mrs. Wig: That's still not much.

Me: I'm going to chime in here and tell you the same thing that you used to tell us when we went to the Grand.

Mr. Wig: OK.

Me: (Imitating Mr. Wig). "Now we're going into the truck stop for breakfast and I don't want you kids just getting cereal because I don't want to hear anyone telling me an hour from now that they're hungry. Get something that will stick to your ribs. Order some pancakes and eggs."

Mr. Wig: (laughing) I said that?

Me: You better believe it. You laid down the law every single year. And now you need to follow your own advice.

Mr. Wig: (still laughing) Well you have a better memory than I do.

(Really I don't. But I do remember this story quite clearly. )

If I never had to buy another pair of shoes I would be happy.

Pensacola is nice. It can be as expensive as you make it Like most areas it has regular places to stay plus resort type places.

Gulf is pretty most any time of the year. Sometimes in July the ocean will "clean itself" and will have lots of seaweed.

Managed to go for my mani/pedi and Julie got one too! She chose a pretty teal color for her nails. Mine are red. Unfortunately, the odor in there gave me a horrible headache. Came home and Marie was chatty - meaning she was talking and LOUD. I had to lay down. We've since had dinner and I'm feeling better.

Tomorrow - PACKING!

Piegon Forge and Gatlinburg.

Cades Cove is a must do. Late afternoon is best for wildlife and bear sightings.

Ober Gatlinburg is a great place for the kids at a reasonable price.

If you do Dollywood after 3:00PM you get the next day on the same ticket. At least we did whebn we were there.

The Upsidedown House(Wonder Works????)was fun according to the kids. I did not go.

Slept until 9:30 this morning. I hardly ever do that.

Did not sleep much Tuesday night,so I guess that was the reason.

After I picked up the kids(in the middle of a thunderstorm)I took them to a new bakery down the road. It was sinfully good! Expensive but the specialty bakeries usual are.

They wanted to know if it could be a weekly trip. I told them ONLY if they had their own money....LOL

For many years I had few problems buying or wearing shoes--once the industry caught up with my feet (it wasn't easy finding size 10 shoes when I was in 8th grade). Now that the middle-age spread has extended to my feet and I need a 10-1/2 or 11, it's become a chore again.

I don't go barefoot much, even in the house. I do not have tough soles and I need protection for my tootsies.

Late, just popping in. Have y'all noticed all the "Thank you Mom" commercials during the Olympics? Phil has asked more than once where are the THank you Dad commercials? I know some of the athletes have single moms, but many of them have dads who footed the bill for those gymnastics classes or swimming lessons. I was thinking of how most of you on this thread speak so fondly of your dad. And while some of you have exes who weren't the best dads to your kids, you know others who are good dads. it does seem lopsided. But I do think it is nice to thank Moms!

My belly isn't flat yet. In case you wondered. I'm mostly staying below 200 on the Wii Fit, which means on a real scale about 202. I guess that's good but I really hoped I'd drop more than this.

That's it from Texas! Night!

Morning!

The folks have left already--more than 20 minutes ahead of schedule.

I don't know what Mr. Wig ended up having for breakfast.

I'm going back to bed for a little bit. TTYL

I haven't noticed, but I believe you. Almost everyone says, "HI MOM!" when they get on camera (not talking just about the Olympics here), but it's rare to hear someone say "HI DAD."

I guess that's just the power of the womb. lol

Holy crap! According to the tracking information, my shoes are "out for delivery" TODAY.

Didn't I just order them yesterday? Why yes, I did. I had to double-check because my previous order wasn't processed that fast. Maybe they have an asterisk next to my name because of the problems I had. lol

Morning. Already had one thunderstorm this mornings, more coming. It is raining though - and steadily which is nice.

Need to start packing. I hate this part of the vacation.

The only thing worse than packing is unpacking after the vacation. But at least you can put off unpacking indefinitely

I'm still using my original Fiskars trimmer. It's nothing fancy but the blades do last longer than five cuts.

I figure when I can no longer buy replacement blades, I'll have to get a new trimmer. But so far Michaels still carries the blades I need.
The newer fiskars trimmers have titanium blades and last way longer. The blades are a little more expensive than the ones for my provo-craft trimmer but last a hubalot longer.

My suitcase and toiletry bag are still hanging around from my D.C. trip, which was two weeks ago. The suitcase was emptied right away, but I still need to clean out the toiletry bag and then get my other stuff organized and consolidated (shoe bags, etc.) and put back into the suitcase for storage under the basement steps.

I think Aunt Flo is here. Since she skipped last month, I had no idea when she might show up again. I'm bummed that it's this soon.

Verrrrrry interesting!

My shoes arrived from Zappos but I think I'll have to send them back, or maybe try exchanging them for a wide or a 1/2 size larger. Based on a rereading of the reviews, maybe I should have ordered the wide in the first place. But typically I don't need a wide, and I especially don't want a dress pump to be sloppy. You don't really know until you try them on.

I just need to hire myself a personal shoemaker. lol

"a hubalot longer?"

What's a hubalot?

Are you cursing in Spanglish again?

Let me know how the new trimmer works. Just in case I need to check it out for myself.
