Busy afternoon. Oldest brother called (just to talk apparently!! Will wonders never cease? LOL). Cousin Linda stopped by with Aunt June's grad photo. She actually came in and visited for a while.

While she was here, Mom called to ask if I'd go to our local JCPenney to check out a vacuum. If I like it, she wants me to buy it but said she'll reimburse me. I had mentioned that it would be handy to have a "dust buster" type thing to pick up crumbs or stuff tracked in near the doors, when you don't want to drag out the big vacuum. One of her friends in Arizona bought one today when they were out shopping together. It sounds like a skinny stick vacuum, battery-operated, with a removable section that you can use like a dust buster.

And now I'm trying to crank out law files. I was just getting caught up, so I about croaked this morning when I signed on and found 99 files in my queue! FAINT!! I don't think I've ever had that many at one time. We are short one evaluator who also does Chinese files, so I'm getting at least half of her files. In a normal year I can usually keep my queue at 30 or fewer files under review. This year I'm struggling just to keep it under 80.

OK, back to work!

Aloha!

Another busy week is finally over.

No progress on the whole custody thing - Will has been playing phone tag with the lawyer all week.

And today on the way home from work, I learned a very valuable lesson: If you are going to be pulled over for speeding, make sure the cop is someone you dated in high school

Lazy day here. I could not fall asleep last night so I slept in. Watched the Iowa game (they won in overtime). Now I'm trying to decide what to do. I have a few choices: clean house (yuck), rake leaves (yuck), work (yuck), shopping (always fun, but hate to spend the money), be artsy (yeah!!).

JoJo: I bought some stuff at Michaels the other night to create a little journal to bring to D.C. with me. I'm going to combine some watercolor paper, sketch paper, and some Heidi Swapp mini albums (for collage backgrounds). I think it will be cute when it's done, and it will give me something to do during my flights (and when I get home).

Remind me to bring my camera with me!!

The other fun thing I bought at Michaels the other night, in the dollar bin. Those small blank calendars where you attach your own photos? I made two a couple of years ago--one for the folks, one for my brother in California.

2012-calendar-july.jpg

This year I'm going to use copies of some of my art instead of family photos.

Seems like you just unpacked from your cruise, Granny (if you unpacked at all). And here you are heading off again.

36 and windy when we left football game late night.

32 when I left at 8:45 AM but bright sunshine,so it felt a lot warmer. Think high today was mid 50's but again, sunshine made it feel warmer and wind died down.

Have not unpacked but will have to do that tomorrow because it will b

Yep, that's a bit nippy! Especially if the wind is blowing.

ARGH! For the second time this week, I went shopping on the east side of town (where Sears is) and forgot to get laundry detergent! Guess I'll either have to head out that way again, or buy something else on this side of town to "tide" me over. Get it? LOL

I found a new pair of jeans and a jacket to go with a top that I bought a couple of months ago. I also looked at shoes but that's a lost cause anymore, thanks to my unique feet.

Busy weekend. Trying to get things ready for next week's bazaar. I'm feeling a little more comfortable, but I am probably making too much and most of it won't sell anyway.

I'm not a pessimist, much.

Hello Monday. It is bright and sunny!

Julie is feeling stressed. She tried to long on to a website for three days in order to do a school assignment. Of course it is due today. Hopefully, others had the same problem and this won't be a big issue. Tomorrow she has her road test for her license. She is a good driver, aware, follows speed limits, etc. But she is concerned about parallel parking (I remember worrying about that too). I just hope and pray she passes so it will boost her self-esteem.

Aloha!

Happy Monday!

Jo, I'll be thinking of Julie today. I hate website issues like that. They cause way to much stress!

Sunny day here, too. Breezy and in the lower 50s. This may be the nicest day of the week, if we get the rain and potential thunderstorms they're talking about for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Just ordered this pair of Skechers from Zappos. I've been wanting something like this for a couple of years, but no one in town ever has them in a size 11, in this color.

JoJo, you may get to see them when we're in DC. I'm thinking of wearing them on the plane and on Monday.

I need a new pair of black boots. I had a pair that were very comfortable but the sole split. I bought another pair that I thought were exactly the same. They were NOT. My feet hurt every time I wore them. I got rid of them last year but haven't replaced them. I also would like a decent pair of brown shoes. Nothing too fancy but nothing too casual either.

Good luck to Julie!

I didn't have to parallel park when I did my driving test, and that was back when there was more parallel parking. I can't remember the last time I really had to parallel park. Probably when I lived in Chicago and had to park on the street (1980s--LOL).

You mean like snow boots?

Since I had to donate or throw away almost all of my shoes, I need practically everything. I'm going to throw away the shoes I wore to the mall on Saturday. They're a size 10 and they were killing my feet after walking just half the mall (and it's not a big mall). They have a little bit of a heel that I need when I wear my "tall" jeans. I need a replacement for them otherwise most of my jeans will be dragging on the ground and getting grungy on the hem (a look I hate). And I could use another pair of nicer flats that aren't black. Those are the hardest to find because I need either an Oxford or Mary Jane style--something with laces or a strap so I can adjust them to my unique feet. The stores around here don't carry many styles like that, so I may have to resort to ordering online again.

Hope Julie did great!

My dad drove Bethany to tears & Natalie said, "Don't EVER leave me alone with Poppaw again," after he "helped" them pack. HE was SO stressed by "how much stuff we have" and how there's no way we'll get it packed, that he left feeling "dazed." Mom packed up my kitchen without one complaint & asked to come help me organize tomorrow. I'd love for her to come anytime to help me set up my new kitchen. NOT my dad. I left the house to run errands. Bethany had gone into hiding when I called home. Not the legacy you want to leave your grandkids.

Not snow boots, but dressy type boots to wear with jeans.

Julie's test is actually tomorrow. She practiced parking and did great. IF she chose to go to the one college, she probably would have to parallel park on a regular basis. It is a large campus in a busy town. BUT, she has changed her mind and wants to go to a much smaller college in the other direction. A GREAT choice in my mind. Smaller campus, nicer setting, more intimate - just her style. It is a little farther to drive, but a much better fit for her. She isn't the social butterfly and isn't into crowds. She, Marie and I all have that in common.

Lori - I am so sorry. My parents have always been helpful when we needed things. My dad would never give advice - even when we ask him, he doesn't want to give his opinion. Now, Bill's parents. Well, suffice it to say, we never asked them for help. Not that his dad would do it anyway. But I am sorry your dad was so tough on the girls. Poor Bethany and Nat!

Obviously this is a topic that pushes your dad's buttons. Poor girls.

Thank goodness for your mom.

In honor of Stella's birthday (and Doug's), this is what I had with dinner tonight. (Remember Stella sent me the Red Nek margarita glass and frozen margaritas for my birthday.)

stella-red-nek-margarita-glass-002.jpg

The cocktail napkin says "I don't jog. It makes my lunch jump out of my glass."

LOL.

The marg is pretty tasty--watermelon flavored.

My poor Julie - she didn't pass. She went just a little too fast in one section. She is so sad. And so am I.

Poop in a shoe!

Tell her I didn't pass my first driving test either, because allegedly I was speeding! (As in, 5 mph over.) I remember how embarrassed and mad and sad I was, all rolled into one.

But I waited a week, took it again, and passed, and I've been tearing up the roads for 30 some years now without incident. (And only one speeding ticket. ) Tell her to keep her chin up!

That is exactly what happened. He told her to go down a hill doing between 10-15 and she hit 20. It's crazy.

Sounds like a deliberate trap. If he does it again, it means she'll have to ride the brake the entire way down. Which we know NO ONE DOES IN REAL LIFE (very often). But if that's what it takes to pass the test, so be it.

Joanne, please do tell her that I didn't pass the first time either. I bet a lot of people don't pass the first time. It's the DMV's sadistic little way to fool themselves into thinking they're in control. I personally think they enjoy picking on teenagers the most--it's how they get their revenge after having to deal with the public. But you just gotta put it behind you. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and take it a second time.

That stinks Jo! Both of my kids failed the test for their permit the first time. Luckily they both passed the driving test the first time, as neither one would have been fun to be around if they hadn't. Although Ben barely passed - I think he got the lowest passing score possible.
