I had already met Tate at Mardi Gras.

Went to Powell's Books and VOODOO Cupcakes.

YES! We spent the night at the beach house. LOVE LOVE IT! Stayed up until the wee hours of the morn playing games. Just Shanon and I. Tate had to work. Put my feet in the Pacific. CHECK off my bucket list.

Next time we will park our butts there the whole time!!!!

Went to Newport. WONDERFUL little seaport town.Ate lunch at seafood factory. Did "tourist stuff".

Passed through Depot Bay which is the best place to see whales but the fog was thick as pea soup....LOL

Went to Tinnamook Cheese Factory. TO DIE FOR. Had grilled cheese for lunch.

Went to Blue Heron French Cheese. SOOOO many samples you could eat lunch. Dips that were OUT OF THIS WORLD good.

Went on a 6 hour boat trip up the Columbia River Gorge. OMG....One of my HUGE bucket list items. Saw places used in TWILIGHT movies.

I am a BIG history buff,so the Lewis and Clark stuff amazed me!

Went GEOCACHING and now I am hooked.

Tried to fondue but something went way wrong....LOL

Yes!,I played Trivia. I STINK!

ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE!!!!

Granny - one of my friends is a photographer. I believe he has stopped at several places along the trail of Lewis & Clark. He was very interested in that too.

This country has so much history and interest. It would take me forever to see it and do it all. I know people love traveling the world, but I would be happy to travel all over THIS country!

So happy for you, Granny.

My dad read a book about the Lewis and Clark expedition last winter. He could talk your ear off about it.

Since I spent half of today running around with my mom, it felt like the weekend. Just now I had to think about what day it is tomorrow. Normally I always know when Friday is. I better get to bed so Friday can get here. LOL. Nighty night!

HI! Was trying to read up but I need to go teach math. I see bathrooms are the hot topic this week. Ours are in shambles with the "update" going on in this rent house.

I think the only thing worse than learning math would be having to teach it.

Do you still have a toilet in your backyard?

Y'all are so funny! I actually like math, up to a point. The girls are behind, so the farthest we are right now with one of them is fractions, mixed numbers, etc. Since I sew & cook I use fractions all the time (more in sewing b/c I'm bad about kind of making up my own way of doing food). Bethany struggles SO much with just basic math stuff. Natalie's already done a middle school geometry & loved it. She's not great with math facts, but she can do the work if she understands it. She & I just have to have a "come to Jesus meeting" now & then. Or scream at each other. But once that's done she can handle the work.

Toilet is inside. No sink in 2 bathrooms & no door downstairs on it, but I hung a sheet & can wash hands in the kitchen sink.

Contractor was supposed to be here on Wed. but his truck broke down & I've heard nothing since. Weird.

I think I have a migraine trying to start. I'm going to take more tylenol. I can't take ibuprofen right now b/c I know the kidney stones are moving & if I need to have something done I have to be off of any NSAID for a week. If the headache doesn't go away I THINK we have one more hydrocodone i nthe house. There's always Phil's leftover morphine---

mIss you all!

When you feel a headache coming on,fill sink with really warm water, put your feet and hands in water and bend head down with a package of frozen peas wrapped in a towel on the back of you neck.

Granny, I am laughing picturing myself on top of the cabinet with my feet & hands in the sink & the towel with peas on my neck! I will try to remember this, though.

Yesterday Mr. Wig offered to take us to the casino in Dubuque for lunch (he and mom had coupons for a free buffet that were expiring). At some point Mr. Wig realized he had forgotten his gambling cash, so after lunch we went to Galena, Illinois instead. It had been about 20 years since Mom and I had been there. It's a small, picturesque town with a lot of bed and breakfast inns, a long Main Street with unique shops and boutiques, a Ulysses S. Grant home that you can tour, etc. It's a former mining area that depends a lot ontourism now.

It's a pretty little town and it was crawling with people! So many bikers you'd think there was a rally in town. LOL! And a music concert in the park next to Main Street. We first went to a big antique mall outside of town, figuring dad would enjoy it more than downtown. I found a trashy 1941 woman's magazine with fabulous color ads and some other small paper ephemera there. Then we went downtown in search of two other antique shops. Didn't find much there.

The sidewalks and the stores were crowded and it was HOT. We were all sweating -- trying to keep up with my dad is a workout. He does not know how to walk leisurely. We didn't even have time to look at the store windows as we walked from the first antique shop to the second.

I was able to dodge into just one other shop to look at Miche bags. Sure wish we'd had more time there. Maybe next time we need to go without Mr. Wig.

Today: Worked a little. The office is upgrading our main program and it will be offline starting today at 4:00 and all day Monday and Tuesday. I had some documents to print before it goes offline, so I can still work on files tomorrow (and I can still do law files because they're totally separate).

I told Mom maybe we can do some bathroom stuff either Monday or Tuesday, since I know there won't be any new work coming in (except for law files). We want to go to Plumb Supply to look at tubs, showers, fixtures, etc.

But I'm done working now. I need to do a couple loads of laundry and work on mom's scrapbook. Will check in later.

Chad and I went Geocaching yesterday. 6 hours and 50 miles worth. All spent driving in probably a 15 miles radius of his house.

We went to 11 and found 10. Spent over an hour looking for the one we did not find. We care convinced it has been taken.

People aren't supposed to move or remove them, are they? (I don't much very much about how it works.)

No but they do.

That is one reason they tell you to be very careful if area is crowded.

If the "owner" removes it they are suppose to take it off the online site.

<--- Been reading more about geocaching on its website.

I wouldn't be able to play; I don't have a GPS. LOL

Do you take/leave something from each cache, or just fill out the logbook?

Are you feeling better Granny?

Miss I - you've been busy.

My Tiki dog goes for an ultrasound of her two weird things tomorrow. I'm trying to get my mind to accept this probably isn't going to be good news. But she is my baby. Even if she is 14.

We have been on the road since last Sunday. And came back yesterday at 12:15ish

Sunday: Chicago, Shedd Aquarium, super cool. After the aquarium we left for Indianapolis.
Monday: Indianapolis Children's museum all day and meet with BETHIE POO and BRANDY at night.
Tuesday: visited downtown Indy, the Colts stadium by S request and the Indy 500 speedway. Then headed off to Cincinnati.
Wednesday: Cincinnati museum of Art.
Thursday: Cincinnati Museum Centre, all day
Friday: Cincinnati Zoo, very cool but it was suffocatingly hot and humid. And the zoo doesn't have drinking fountains. If you are thirsty you have to pay $4.00 for a bottle of water. You can f course bring your own, but with the heat we encountered on Friday or water was gone in less than half an hour.
Saturday: was low key. Packing, lunch and take off

And I must tell you about our experience with the hotel in Indy.
I'm always paranoid about keeping things off the floor and checking for bed bugs clues. I checked and there were none.
We were disappointed because the pool was closed and we were not told of this when we made the reservation.
On Monday, just as we were about to leave for the Children's museum. We were walking out the door and I remembered I had left my cell on the bedside table charging. I went back to get it and found a BUG on our bed.
Not a bed bug because it was too big. This thing was the size of a rolly-polly. But I wasn't sure and took it to the reception desk. The girl confirmed that the bug wasn't a bed bug......... It was JUST a flea
We went back to the room packed our stuff. They gave us a diff room, one next to a family with a SCREAMING baby. I told DH, I don't think so. I'm past the baby years with hours, I don't want to lose sleep with someone else's baby, kwim
Finally, they moved us to a room that had not had pets there.
The hotel attendant explained to us that because they accept pets the fleas and other stuff is not uncommon
I was FURIOUS. I understand if the hotel wants to accept pets is their thing. But, they should have "pet rooms" and non-pet rooms. You know like smoking and non-smoking.
I was and still am a bit freaked out. What if this thing or things laid eggs on our stuff? I washed everything before we came back. And warned he hotel that if I get any of this crap in my house they will get he bill for cleaning it up.
Plus, travelocity refunded us in full for he 2 nights. That was good but still

Hola!

Welcome back, Caro! Sounds like you pumped a year's worth of culture into the kiddos in just one week.

$4 water is p00p. They should just take your wallet when you walk in the gate because by the end of the day it will be empty anyway.

Wig.
That is about he same time as last year. When we met for lunch in Dubuque, remember?

JUST a flea??

That must have been some flea for you to see it under those circumstances! They're tiny!

I guess the term "fleabag hotel" applies to the place where you stayed. (That's what I called the place in Des Moines where we stayed, although we never saw any bugs.)

I know. We were "lucky" we were there on a community appreciation event and paid half price. Still, it was $45 for the tickets alone. It was a nice zoo.
But maybe we are just spoiled. Our local zoo is free. Its nowhere as big but its very nice. Being a free zoo hey could milk it and not allow outside food or drinks. But, we have picnic tables and water fountains all over the zoo.

I think it was in May last year? It was closer to my birthday as I remember.

You and I need to go to Galena. We would have a lot of fun (without whining tails ).

It was by no means a "ritzy" hotel. It was just a Comfort Inn. A chain we have used in the past without problems.
The gal at the front desk was nonplused at the size of the flea. She said THEY HAD SEEN BIGGER, wth?
Apparently was a dog flea, shudders

That will be super fun. Now, I will have to convince DH and the kiddos that they can survive a weekend without mom
