I put this on FB, but will share here for Miss I. You have to know that our family is always joking around, so this was totally in jest when I said it.

You may not find this amusing & may unfriend me for saying this. Bethany didn't think it was funny. Natalie did. The other day we were at my parents' house & talking about dogs. My dad said that their last dog had cancer & that's why he had to be put to sleep. I looked at Phil & said, "Good thing THEY weren't taking care of you." BTW, Phil found it amusing, too.

Well, it's all WE do. Many of the same words or phrases are also used in the U.S. Especially ones for getting/being drunk.

Well, yes!

I did notice there are a lot of words that are the same. I can think of tad, Bee's knees (my mom used that a lot), wonky. I remember reading more yesterday, but my mind is blank today.

Today Marie is 22. When did that happen?

I went to the UPS site to track the paper I bought for my mom's scrapbook. The expected delivery date was Monday. It finally made it to Illinois (from Phoenix), but now it says "Adverse weather may cause delay."

I'm guessing by adverse weather they mean the snowstorm that hit the Midwest yesterday. We didn't get any snow here, but some cities in Iowa got as much as 11 inches! May snow is pretty rare here. Especially that much. They said the roads were treacherous.

I just can't wrap my mind around the fact I have a 22 year old and an almost 20 year old. I got married less than two months after my 22nd birthday. Was engaged before my 20th. YIKES!!!!

I feel for those still getting snow. It is crazy. I am beyond thankful that we've had nice weather.

My mom says the same thing about being married--can't believe she's been married 54 years (and they dated at least a couple of years before that). She said it just didn't seem possible. And for the record, this was said long before this last episode of being mad at my dad.

I guess time passes if you're not paying attention. lol

AMEN! I've noticed that myself.

Talking--yes. (Mrs. Wig seems to be in a better mood this week.)

Sleeping together--no. But that's nothing unusual. That's just a matter of wanting a good night of sleep. lol (And Mr. Wig goes to bed much earlier.)

Don't you mean "wonky"?

Honestly, sorry about that. I have a slight headache today. I think it is allergies. I went out on the deck to yell at the dog and I can smell the lilacs. I LOVE lilacs, but can't have them in the house. I am considering cutting some and leaving a bouquet on the table on the deck. Even that might be a little close tho. I wish I could have them in the house. They are one of my favorites. And this bush is from a cutting from the one at my parents' house.

Hmmm, I'm not sure wonky is the right connotation, but I can't find another word I like better. LOL

Our lilacs aren't close to blooming yet. They're behind. But the grape hyacinths are loaded, and Dad said he could smell them.

Mr. Wig wants the computer. Toodle-loo!

tee hee

I'm watching Blazing Saddles, and it sounds like Gabby Hayes uses the word wanker during his "frontier gibberish" speech. (See Best of British Slang list if you're not sure what wanker is.)

ETA Well, maybe not. It might have been side WINDER. lol

Yippee! I found some clip-on light shades for the two ceiling lights in my room. They're exactly what I need to cover the lightbulbs and to make it look like a real fixture, and they have a hole for the pull cord to come through (the fixtures are not wired to a switch). I had to order them online from Home Depot, but by having them shipped to the store instead of to the house, there was no shipping charge.

I've wanted to get some shades like this for a loooooong time.

Sorry for the dodgy headaches. I have one that is self induced, sort of. We've been watching a tv series called Wild at Heart. Tonight was a really sad episode and it dragged on through the entire hour long show. I cried the entire hour for a stupid tv show! Dork! Now I have a headache.

Wildlowers bloomed here in mid March. They are still blooming. Nat just potted several plants we bought and repotted others.

The series I mentioned takes place in South Africa but has a British family as the main character family. I've noticed they say "sorted" to mean worked out, settled, dealt with. They say it a lot. Never brilliant, though. Not in the script I guess.

Good night ladies!

I am NOT trying to rub this in, but I've got windows open and I can hear dogs barking, kids shouting and lawn mowers going. I am waiting for Bill to mow the lawn - I LOVE that smell.

Now, I also cleaned up the kitchen, have laundry going, am folding three loads and still have to pick up in the living room. So it isn't all wonderful and beautiful.

Lori - when does Phil go back for a check with the doctor? I hope he is feeling better every day. Can he eat "regular" food yet?

Hola! My red eye is looking worse today and feeling scratchy, so I've been keeping a warm compress on it. I hope I don't have to go to the doctor on Monday.

We got another 2 inches of rain between dinner last night and sometime this morning when Mr. Wig checked the rain gauge. No wonder the sump pump was going crazy. We need SUN. We need DRY WEATHER.

I was in bed last night reading when all of a sudden, a big black MOTH fell from the ceiling and hit the lampshade. He fluttered around a little on the floor until I was able to get him.

I *LOATHE* moths. I don't know how he got in, unless he came in with one of the boxes from the garage.

ICK.

UGH - rain and snow and dreariness. Mom said they haven't had rain in awhile. We had a pretty good soaking on Monday. I guess it didn't make it far enough north for my parents.

I don't like moths either, but black ones? I don't know that I've seen a black one. Do you have stink bugs in IA yet? They are prehistoric looking bugs. Last year we didn't have too many and I thought maybe they were dying out. But we've seen quite a lot already this year. I think they originated in China (?). We had them here for a year or more before they made it to NY. They are the ugliest things!

I remember hearing about stink bugs last year, but I'm not sure if that's because we have them here or not. Just in today's paper they had an article that the bugs are late getting started, because of the wet, cold spring that we've had. All except for the box elder bugs, which burst out last week when it got warm for a couple of days. At least they're harmless.

We decided to go to Wendy's for dinner, and we actually sat and ate there (usually we bring it home to eat). We were able to get in and out between the rain, but there were a lot of dark clouds around.

Now it is pouring cats and dogs! And there was one big thunder and lightning clap just a couple of minutes ago.

True dat! Housework never goes away.

I just hope we have some warm (but not hot), spring days when we can have the windows open.

Sorry for the rainy weather, Granny. Our daffodils and tulips have come and gone, too. Some of the trees are still looking beautiful with flowers. Most trees are almost full with leaves. It is beautiful !!!!!!

Pella, Iowa, which has an annual tulip festival (this weekend): tulips were buried in snow yesterday or Thursday.

The magnolia trees are in full bloom here. They are so pretty.

Our tulips (an early variety) are done, as are our daffodils. But the grape hyacinth are still going strong.

We're going to get our flower "bed" planted next week I think. We're trying something new this year: a package of mixed wild flower seeds (instead of bedding plants). And I may put in a row of lettuce. lol

I thought the same thing!

I can't wait to meet Granny and take a picture standing next to her.

Great picture, Granny. I really like your shorter 'do. And Karlie is beautiful. Her dress is gorgeous--the color reminds me of the ocean.

At 8:00 p.m. tonight, Mr. Wig decided he wanted to install the new towel bar in the laundry room.

Let's see----first the drill kept shorting out on him for some reason (it's an old old drill).

Then the bit broke. I couldn't believe it, but there was still enough of it left to work with.

But the bit was dull (cement bit), so it was hard work drilling 4 holes.

Once we got the holes drilled, we couldn't get the rod ends to stay attached to the plates, until we figured out that there was a MICROSCOPIC screw to deal with. That required one of those super miniature screwdrivers like you use to repair eyeglasses (which thankfully we had, in a kit I got once in a grab bag at a conference!).

It was like: how many half-blind Germans does it take to install one towel bar?

Answer: 3. And it only took us an hour! LOL

(P.S. The instructions on the package were minimal and there were no pictures.)

It made me think of Kristi---Wondering if she and Will have installed any towel rods in their new place yet, and how long it took them?
