HI all!

Thanksgiving is basically done out here!

I had a BLAST at the soup kitchen today! I got there early so I sorted canned goods for a bit and then went up to the kitchen. They put me in charge of all the side dishes! I made 5 trays of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash and green bean casserole. Such hard work but so much fun!

It was so funny - I guess being one of the only girls, the chef looked at me and put me in charge of the mixer. Once he saw I was having fun/was competent and things were really moving along he looked at me and said, "Hey, do you know how to make green bean casserole?" Of course, I said!! So, I went to the pantry and pulled the ingredients and made up the 5 trays. It was simple - I didn't have Worcestechire and it was a last minute decision, but such fun to make something other than potatoes for these folks.

When I left dinner was still 2.5 hours away, but the place was packed with people already sitting at tables and people lingering outside. One lady even said Thank you.

Overall such a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back!

Then I went to my friend's house for dinner. Yummy. I haven't had dessert in 12 weeks and I had 3 small pices of pie!!! I couldn't pass them up. I am ready to explode. LOL

I had homemade pumpkin, homemade apple and she bought a banana creme pie from a famous diner - the pie was incredible!!! Pure heaven on a fork. Worth every calorie!

Jen, so neat to hear your soup kitchen story. We did something similar on Christmas day a few years ago at a men's mission and it was such a blast. My friend and I were assigned at the dessert table and did not want to leave. Wish I could have been with you today.

Yep!
Great day!
I told the story about how my mom is laughing in Heaven. The first thing the chef said to me is, "Do you know how to make mashed potatoes?" And the thing is I LOVE mashed potatoes and my mom grew up on them and didn't care for them - same for my dad. I was always complaining that she made turnips on Thanksgiving. Well, I got my mashed potatoes all right!

My friend's house for dinner was fun. Ate far too much! YUMMY! They did two turkeys - one was fried - far better than the traditional one. So tender!

Good morning dear misfits, hope everyone had a super wonderful Thanksgiving!

My sister, her daughter as well as her daughter-in-law went shopping at midnight last night... I remember when I use to do that kind of thing. Crazy as it was, it was fun.

No shopping for me today. However, will be meeting a super hero from SC who is at the University of Maryland hospital. Tyler just had his 48th surgery on his leg and jaw and has been fighting since he was two. Have been following Tyler's cancer journey for a couple of years and truly this 11 year old is amazing and has an incredible attitude... have decided I am going to ask for his autograph.

Hope you enjoy this turkey chuckle...

Turkey Poem

After Dinner Delight

I ate too much turkey, I ate too much corn,
I ate too much pudding and pie.
I'm stuffed up with muffins and much too much stuffin'
I'm probably going to die.

I piled up my plate and I ate and I ate.
But I wish I had known when to stop,
For I'm so crammed with yams, sauces, gravies, and jams
That my buttons are starting to pop!

I'm full of tomatoes and french fried potatoes
My stomach is swollen and sore,
But there's still some dessert so I guess it won't hurt if
I eat just a little bit more!

Good Morning!

I'm still stuffed from Thanksgiving! It was all very good!

Burt had to be at the sleep number store at 5 for the mall opening today! so I was awake with him this morning! I hit Walmart, picked up some $8 jeans for Xander and a set of pjs for him. then to Joanns, picked up some 12x12 iris paper container/holder things for me. I was thinking about buying some more flannel to make sleep pants for family, but decided I was not brave enough for the fabric dept that early in the morning! Then to Old Navy, Corrie made out! 2 pairs of jeans, 4 shirts and a pair of slippers and Xander got 2 more shirts! Then to work! I think I may need a nap in a bit!

Nikkie - Sounds like you are having a great time with your nephews!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Well got to meet a superstar and real hero today at the University of Maryland hospital and got his autograph!! My sweet Tyler Tucker (11) who lives in SC is up here for surgery #48 and truly is amazing. Tyler has been fighting since he was two. Was able to bring balloons and goodies to him along with dinner for his mom and grandmother. Cannot tell you what a privilege it was!!

Cat: that is so nice you were able to do something like that for that family. I hate to hear he has to go through so lot and that is with all of those kiddos. I feel so bad for all of those kiddos.

Hope you all had a good FRIDAY did anyone do any shopping. I took the nephews to the lake, then to the park, and then we went to Hobby Lobby wasnt too bad.

Wow, where is everyone today?

We did a little Christmas decorating and will soon be leaving to pick up Alexander for the night. He and his dad have just come back from visiting his 'Gram' in Georgia for Thanksgiving.

Had a great time with my nephews here with me. I hate to see it end, but I am glad they both were able to come and visit, we did all kinds of things. Went to the movies today to see Happy Feet 2. They have had a blast they dont want to go home. But we will be leaving bright and early in the morning. Its suppose to be a 100% chance of rain tomorrow which STINKS i dont like driving in the rain.

Hi all!

Back from NY. It took us 3 1/2 hours to get home. It should take only 2 1/2. However, we did pretty well. Traffic got bad on the NJ Turnpike, but we got off and took a parallel road. There was some heavy congestion for a few miles, but that was because of strip malls, we think. I have no complaints. I dno't know what it will look like tomorrow. Traffic heading north was very heavy throughout the trip.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with Bill's sisters and a few additional guests. Very nice. We were at my parents' house all day yesterday. My brother and his wife came over, too. Their daughter was already there. Unfortunately, Marie was PMSing, my brother was teasing her and she got into a snit. She wants us to treat her like an adult, but she doesn't act it. She just doesn't understand. Now she is saying she doesn't want to go to the beach, other family trips, etc. PMS is when she is the worst. Oh well, we're home now.

I hope to get some decorating done tomorrow since it is supposed to be nice. We still have dead plants to get out of the ground!

Julie has been coughing the last few days so I think we'll be calling the doctor tomorrow. I hope they can see her then. It is just the cough, like Bill and I had. She isn't tired or anything. I hope we catch it in time.

We are going to the movies today to see the Muppets. I have a feeling my dad and I will enjoy it more than the kids. Drew hates the movies. I was willing to stay back with him but my dad wants us all to go. I'd love to stay home and decorate, but no such luck!

I have really enjoyed being off of work! Wish I had some more time.

Nikki - glad you had a nice visit. Today is the worst travel day as far as I'm concerned! Add rain and it is miserable. I'm glad you are home safe and sound though!

Jen - how long is your dad staying?

Did nothing all day. I have to get a lot accomplished tomorrow. Bill got all the autumn stuff down and all the dead plants taken care of, but neither of us felt like doing anything else. So we didn't!

Just got back from dropping Alexander off from our visit. Goodness, that boy grows like a weed and he is now shaving!! Yikes!!

Am reading an awesome book - The Snow Angel by Glenn Beck and is it so powerful. It is based on a woman named Rachel, her painful life experiences, etc. and will definitely make you cry but it is so good.
