Joan, Thank You for the beautiful Thanksgiving card. You spent a lot of time on that, and I really appreciate it!

Is everyone doing pre-Thanksgiving cooking or prep work today, or this evening? What is everyone's Thanksgiving Day plans?

I am going to JoAnns this morning. They have a big craft sale, and I want to pick up a new paper trimmer. I am dicing up all the onion and celery and probably saute it this evening. I'm stuffing the turkey, and roasting it. We are going to my Daughter's house. I always make the gravy, then help my daughter get the rest together. There will be about 15 of us this year. This will be the baby's first year at eating Thanksgiving dinner. That will be fun to watch. I'm glad I'm feeling better today!!!

Linda - I am so glad you are feeling better today!!!

It is just the four of us this year, but that is okay. I thoroughly enjoyed going to NY the last two years. We spent the holiday with Bill's sisters. But I'm very thankful to be home this year. I have sweet potatoes roasting. I'm going to make a sweet potato casserole this year. I hope I like it as much as I enjoyed the one my BIL made last year! Also going to bake an apple/walnut pie that I had bought. I'll make the stuffing and cranberry sauce. I never had fresh cranberry sauce until last year. Oh my it was good. I never liked cranberries before.

So, except for a trip to the store (which Bill said he'd make), I think I'm home and enjoying a quiet day.

Happy Day Before Thanksgiving Day!

My friend of nearly 30 years stayed with us last night. She is temporarily living in Burlington VT, is here visiting family and needed a bed for the night. It was nice catching up on one another.

Thanksgiving Forecast

Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to
an afternoon high near 190 F. The kitchen will turn hot and
humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe
squall or cold shoulder.

During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a
knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation
of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift
across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots
on the other. Please pass the gravy.

A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for
the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the
beltway. During the evening, the turkey will diminish and
taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34 F in the
refrigerator.

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat
sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be
expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered
soup late in the day. We expect a warming trend where soup
develops. By early next week, eating pressure will be low as
the only wish left will be the bone.

We just spent the past 2 1/2 hours outside! The weather is so nice so I decided to rake/mow/bag all the leaves in our front yard. It looks so much better! We're only allowed to water one day a month now and we missed our day. I may try to sneak some water onto the lawn tonight just to give it a little drink.

Preston's down for a nap (hopefully!) and I'm going to go read my naughty book

We're having Thanksgiving at our house - the 3 of us and my mama.

We bought all our food last week and we'll get a start on some of it tonight.

In NJ! Traffic was very easy and we flew down. Made it in just over 4 hours. Drove straight through. I am tired!

We just went out to lunch. Tried Smashburger. It was OK. The burger was tasty. (I got a kids meal too!) The fries were pretty bad. It was very busy too! We also stopped at the grocery store. It was empty! It's a little one and a small chain. Picked up some frozen candied potatoes (a tradition that reminds me of my mom!).

Looks like my big guy might have the flu! He's burning up, sore throat, and is pale. He didn't finish eating and looks horrible. No cough though!

I need to make the pumpkin cheesecake tonight. I prefer pie but everyone requested my cheesecake. Tomorrow I'll make the mashed potatoes.

My dad and my brother are at the Botanical Gardens in NYC. They are going to hit sooo much traffic trying to come home! We're just ordering pizza tonight so no biggie. I am looking forward to good NJ pizza, but oof, what a calorie fest today!

Cat - I LOVE that Thanksgiving forecast! LOVE IT!

Sherry - glad you are home safe and sound. Also happy you had a good time!

Jen - pizza! Now that sounds yummy. I do have a Nutrisystem pizza so maybe that WILL be my dinner!

I have baked the apple pie, made the cranberry sauce and made the sweet potato casserole. I'll bake that tomorrow. I might make the stuffing tonight, but that is really all I have to put together. The rest of the veggies and stuff for tomorrow is straightforward.

Had to go back to the store! But the pumpkin cheesecake is in the oven and a batch of Christmas sour cream cookie dough is chilling.

Just went on a walk - the weather was gorgeous!

I'm thinking we'll do pizza for dinner - I'm not in the mood to dirty the kitchen today. Brandon just called and his boss let him off early so we'll be starting our holiday weekend soon!

I had Nutrisystem pizza for dinner. It seemed the way to go today!

Got most of the things made that I needed. I'll wait and do the stuffing tomorrow. It isn't difficult. I also managed to clean out three cabinets (which Bill's help). I asked him if he would help me do the pantry over the next few days and he said he would. I have things on the top two shelves and I don't even remember what it is. Obviously, I should be able to get rid of some of it.

Now I'm just relaxing and planning to watch some TV and cross stitch.

I had asked my SIL if he would help Bob move the bed that is in my spare bedroom. I planned on listing it and a chair I was storing for my son on FreeCycle. So, I talked to my daughter this afternoon, and she told me how busy Brian was and not sure WHEN he would have time. About an hour after talking to Shanna, the doorbell rang, and a big truck and huge utility trailer was pulling up to the house. I had mentioned the bed to my hair-dresser, and she took my phone number and address. Her church does missionary work, and pick up used furniture. They didn't even call, but there was a house fire in our town last night, and the people lost everything. They were sleeping on the floor, until they delivered our old bed. I threw in a couple of pillows, a set of sheets, a blanket and comforter, also a chair I've been storing for my son that he decided that he didn't want. Hopefully it will help keep them warm on Thanksgiving Eve. Sometimes things work for a reason!!! I'm glad that I could help!!!

Do not know if anyone enters the Wheel of Fortune puzzle each night with Sony Rewards but you can rack up points to get Sony products. Just got a Sony cyber shot digital camera for 17,999 points!

My spare bedroom is looking more like a Craft Room now that the bed is out of there. They came without notice, so there was boxes on top and underneath the bed when they came. There were 3 men, and they jumped right in there and took the bed apart and carried it out. Bob is on vacation starting Dec. 9th, so he will paint then, and I will paint the trim. I have a LOT of sewing to do, but I will be able to unload all my card supplies before that. I can't wait!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY TO ALL!!!

The Story of Thanksgiving

After enduring religious persecution in their native England and for twelve years in Holland, the pilgrims sailed for America. They were modest men and women with a great hope and inward zeal. They rested in the providence of God that He was leading them to a land of religious freedom to advance the gospel of the kingdom of Christ.

The voyage of the Mayflower took twice as long as Christopher Columbus' voyage, enduring several wintry storms. After arriving in their new land, they faced disease, famine, bitter cold and many dangers. However, when the Mayflower made its return voyage, none of the pilgrims returned with it.

Their first harvest occurred in the autumn of 1621. Their own seed had barely grown, but the Indians had shown them how to plant corn which yielded a huge harvest. On the first Thanksgiving, they celebrated God's goodness to them with a party of ninety Indians. Their Thanksgiving feast lasted three days and included a festival of sports.

Thanksgiving Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln

"Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may be then, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid, that on the occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust, and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the great Disposer of events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling-place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations."

Hope everyone has a great day. It is BEAUTIFUL here today. We are due to get some rain and much colder temps starting overnight tonight. But we don't have to really go anywhere tomorrow so I can be happy snuggling in at home!

Caterina- The pictures are so fun!

I love this cooler weather. I slept with the window open the last few nights. I have a hard time sleeping when it is over 70 in the house. DH is always cold. I think I see sleeping in different bedrooms may be in our future.

I just did some shopping and stopped off for another NJ tradition.....taylor ham and cheese on a bagel. Mmmmmmm. I am so not getting on the scale for a week! LOL

If anyone needs bras, Kohls is having a great sale. My favorite bras were a little more than half price, then an extra 15% off and then I got Kohls cash.

I just made that mistake. UGH!

I am waiting or my youngest DS to wake up. He wants to go to Kohls. He wants to see if any of the items on his friends wedding registry are on sale.

It is only 17 degrees this morning. I had to turn the heat on during the night. What a change a day can make!

I might need to go back to Kohls. They have paracord watches for $10 and I thought they'd be fun for the boys, but when I try and buy it online it comes up as "girls". The ad says mens or womens. Kohls is good at returns so I think I'll buy it and if they are too girly I can return them. Hhhmmm

I need bras Jen! Thank you for the tip. I wasn't going to go out, but now I might.

I still have the girls here, it has been fun. We all ate way too much yesterday, but it only comes once a year!
