Short chuckle...

Hammer

During a home renovation, my grandfather was watching me
drive in nails.

"You hammer like lightning," he said.

"Really?" I replied, flattered.

"You never strike the same place twice."

Morning (for another 3 mins)!

Hope everyone has a good Friday. Jen - will be waiting to hear how the appointment went. I hope it goes well.

It is a little chillier here today - tonight the low can get to 38. One of my friends in FL posted that she is glad her car has heated seats. It was only 50. Only! LOL

Jennifer - how are you today? Hope things are getting better for you.

Bill and I got to go out for breakfast. We went to Cracker Barrel. Not the healthiest, but it was good! I had the "eggs in a basket". Yum!

Joanne, how sweet that you and hubby went out for breakfast! Our older grandkids used to love Cracker Barrel when they were younger.

Good afternoon!
Joanne- I am happy that you and Dh went out to breakfast. Isn't ti fun to go out on a date? I made banana pancakes. I needed to use up some over ripe bananas.
Caterina- have a great day! Most if not all of the schools in the state of MN are closed for state teachers' meetings.

Hi All,

I am so glad I took little guy to the doctor! The doc was wonderful. He already had a list of ideas jotted down along with questions for me. Our pediatrician agreed with my concerns and said, "I'm so glad you brought him in!"

Upon exam, our pediatrician doesn't think he's in CHF (thank goodness), nor does he think it's exercise asthma. His physical exam is unremarkable. He agrees with my concern that he needs an echo ( ) and will contacting the cardiologist. He also validated my concern that he has gained a lot of weight since this summer - is it the cause or effect??? With that being said, we need to get blood work and he'll be testing: CBC, sed rate, glucose, kidney function, thyroid, lyme (it's endemic here), and some other markers I have now forgotten about. The bad news is they tried to get blood and were unsuccessful. We are now home hydrating and will go back later. He is a horrendous stick and it was torturous.

So, no answers for now, but we're on the right track.

Thanks for your support!

Have an appointment next Friday with another doctor who specializes in shoulder problems, pain, etc. Have been dealing with this on and off for a couple of years now and hope the cortisone shots will keep surgery off. WARNING, WARNING, getting old is not for sissies which is one of my sister's favorite sayings... btw, she is younger than me.

I got a card from Joan too! You are such a gem!!!

Jennifer - glad that Brandon can be home with you today. That is always special.

Jen - glad you had a good appointment with the doctor. It is nice when they actually care, isn't it?

I played in my craft room today. Didn't accomplish too much, but I made a few cards for Cat's Cole Kids. And I'm still trying to use up some patterned paper!!!!

Good Saturday Morning everyone!

Whew...I have not worked 5 days in a row for a while. It was tiring but I do love the new position. The other ppl are very mature and professional. I so far, think I will like the work. And, other than a first day blip, my sweater was shedding onto my pants....(should have washed before wearing), all went well.

The neat thing is they are flexible. So I worked out a plan to work longer days 4 days a week and then get one afteroon off a week.

I am praying for Jen's son, Joan and her family and everyone facing challenging times. (hugs)

Cat - we've had our gas fireplace on a few times. It is in the basement family room which is always more chilly! Managing to not use the regular heat just yet!

I have showered, worked on laundry and made chicken corn chowder. Isn't my day amazing? Now I'm off to fold the laundry!!!

Linda - so glad to see you!

Hedgie - that is fantastic that you can schedule some time off! Woo hoo!!!!

Joanne, know what you mean about the basement - we have a wood burning fireplace down there.

Since putting in the gas fireplace in the new addition, our furnace hardly goes on during the winter which has saved us some $$. Had no idea it would heat up most of the house like it does but am so grateful!!

Reynold just finished baking brownies which will be our contribution for tonight's church gathering at our pastor's house. He will be sharing his pictures and experiences during his three-week missionary trip to India, Nepal and the surrounding areas.

Just got back from baseball and soccer. What a day!
Soccer was so exciting! Jack played the entire game in goal and only gave up a goal on a penalty shot - which was a bad call! We lost - our team should have had 6 goals, including two empty netters, where the other goalie was out of position, but they could not find the goal for the life of them!

Tonight I am going to a Halloween adult party. I am going to make crab artichoke dip and serve it with rice crackers, so I know I can eat it!! Now to figure out my costume!

If you use it in the rooms you spend the most time (or if the heat travels nicely!) it can be a huge savings. I keep the temp cooler upstairs in general, so the girls can be happier and warmer with that downstairs!

Wow, I just finished reading through the week's posts. It must have been something in the air,...it was a trying week for most of us Misfits!!! I'm hoping that the week ends much better!!!

Jennifer, I am happy to hear that Brandon got home early yesterday to spend the weekend with you and Preston. You've had a tough week. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's son. I hope you are feeling less overwhelmed this weekend.

Joanne, I hope you are feeling better this weekend, too. This is a bad time of the year for people that have allergies. Hope you and Bill had a nice breakfast out. Hopefully playing in your craft room cheered you up, too!!!

Caterina, Acupuncture is something I keep saying that I am going to try. I just can't get anyone that can recommend anyone to me. I guess I'll just have to let my fingers do the walking in the yellow pages one day!!! I am going to have to get some Gaviscon the next time I am out. I have been so weak, that I haven't been out of the house in almost 2 weeks!!! I am glad that I collect robes and lounging clothes, because I shower, and change into clean gowns and robes. What is wrong with your shoulder? Is it your Rotator Cuff? What is the doctor saying about putting you in the hospital? I hope you get better, so you don't have to go, but if not,...make sure you GO ! ! !

This particular one keeps the furnace thermostat in the hallway around 72 during the winter. We really did not know how powerful it was and the great thing was, it was much cheaper than others we had looked out. The only drawback is that we could not get a remote control for it but it most definitely keeps the place warm.

We keep it off at night so it is cooler while we are sleeping.

Linda, have tried several different places for acupuncture, one private and two community - have found all of them to be beneficial. The community ones charge on a sliding scale which makes it more cost effective.

Having to deal with severe gastric problems for over 20 years, Gaviscon is the best as far as all the other non-prescription ones. Hope it helps you.

Have multiple health problems with neck, back, shoulder, arms, hands, hips, legs, etc. along with gastric problems, plus other stuff... clearly if I were a car, would have been recalled ages ago... Have had a few surgeries and am very reluctant to go that route unless there are no other options. It is what it is and always could be a lot worse. I try to think of my sweet heroic kids and their families and tell myself, I got no problems.

Joan, I love your picture of your son and his family. I am sorry to hear about his health problems and pain, and hope he gets some answers and relief when he goes to The Mayo Clinic in December.
I will keep your husband's niece in my prayers.

Nichole, I hope your husband is feeling better. I hope you are enjoying your weekend in Georgia. It is one of my favorite states!!! I am sorry about your family's loss. I will keep your Mother and Father in my prayers.

Jen, Sounds like the end of your week is very busy!!! What a great decision you made to make the trip to the doctor!!! Poor little guy brought back memories of my son. They always had trouble getting blood from him!!! I usually left in tears, along with him!!! It is torture!!! As I've gotten older, my veins roll, and I get poked several times myself!!! I am praying for possitive answers from his tests!!!
Have a FUN time tonight at the Halloween Party!!!

Hedgie, I am glad you are enjoying your new job!!! Sounds like just what you were looking for!!! I am so happy for you!

Liz, Sounds like you have been very busy, between work and Allison's auditions and musicals!!! I remember those days, even though they were many years ago. Some days I really miss them,...then reality hits me!!! I don't have the energy anymore!!!

I really enjoyed community acupuncture. I need to go back!

My costume is so not creative. I just didn't have time. I am wearing an Egyptian cotton dress thing that I got in Egypt and using fake leaves to make a headpiece. Sort of toga like I guess?? I am washing the thing - it is soo mildew smelling. Hope it still fits after it dries! LOL

Karen,
Awwwww, that makes me feel so good!!! I have been under the weather all month. I thought I had an awful stomach bug, or food poisoning. I've been surviving on chicken broth and saltine crackers, and still can't get too far away from the bathroom. I had a routine Dr appointment a couple of weeks ago, and (of course) that day, I felt better. I mentioned how I'd been feeling, and she didn't act concerned!!! Anyway, the next day, I was sicker than a dog again. I'm also very exhausted.
So, I had been wondering about the medication that has been working miracles on my migraines (I haven't had one in over a month)! It is Topamax, and is also used for seizures. I searched the internet, and 17% of the patients have vomiting and diarrhea with it. With that many, you'd think she would have said something??? The instructions only say to "Take at bedtime", so, of course, I haven't been taking with food. The weird thing is I had been taking this med for over a month without any side effect!!!

So, Now I am eating saltine crackers before taking it, and drinking lots of water all day. I'm also taking it earlier in the evening, since some nights I go to bed quite late. Do you have any other suggestions? I skipped one dose earlier this week. My tummy just needed a break, and I felt great. I am hoping I adjust to it. It is doing wonders for my migraines!!!

I will try to "hang out" with everyone more!!! I really miss you all when I am feeling so yucky!!!

Jen, That sounds GREAT to me!!! Wow,...you went to Egypt??? I am envious!!! Made me think, My daughter's Obstetrician is from Egypt. Not only is he a great doctor, but GOOD LOOKING!!!

I have never heard of community acupuncture. I doubt if my smallish, midwestern town offers it.

Linda, I am so sorry you have been feeling so crummy. I will look up Topamax....

The thing is, if it is the med, you can't go on feeling nauseous/having diarrhea and having to limit your diet.
Sounds like when you don't take it you feel improvement.

I'd call the Dr. and ask about this. Maybe there is something else you could take?

I have missed chatting with you. Please feel better! This has to be miserable for you!

Jen, when were you in Egypt? Was there in 1987 when I also went to Israel.

Linda, you might be surprised as I was when starting to look for acupuncture places - was able to find a few within 30-35 minutes from where we live.
