Jennifer, was there a price limit, if so, I must have missed that.

Here is the article done by the Baltimore Times to help promote Coles Foundation and bring more awareness to childhood cancer. The reporter, Ursula, did the interview over the phone and did a good job.

My poor Julie. She didn't pass the test. She went too fast through one section. She is so sad and doesn't want comfort.

Oh Joanne, sorry, hopefully Julie will get through this bump on the road. Can she take the test again? Sending hugs.

Jo, sorry to hear about Julie. Many kids don't pass the first time. My one DD was borderline, but she was passed anyway. I wish she hadn't been.
It took her another year to be where I felt she should be in order to pass.
We had fender benders and such...

I emphasized with the girls, no matter what, if you pass or don't pass, you are learning for at least another year. She will do fine next time, I am sure.

Not a good day for news for either of us. My labs yesterday show my blood sugar is elevated. I have to go in for more tests. Another thing to deal with. I had a hunch, given I have gained a ton of belly fat and have been laying around eating with this ankle. This is my own darn fault.

I ordered 3 diabetic cookbooks from Amazon...I know how to eat, I just don't do it. I know I should only have 1/2 of a baked potato, I eat the whole thing, I should have sweet potato instead. ....etc... etc...
The fact that I fasted for 12 hours and it was elevated scares me. It is probably Type II, early onset.

She can take it again within a week. But we won't be able to talk to her about it for awhile . . .

Oh, I do remember, it is only one week. She will be ok. She will just take it slow. I remember I was so slow, the guy said, you have done everything correctly, but you are overly cautious. Not a bad thing but try to relax!

I ordered a pair of glasses online about 1.5 weeks ago. I had heard this site called Zenni (?) is good. You can choose your frame, the shape of the lenses, etc... and put them on a model or download your own photo.

I need a spare pair of computer glasses and will not spend $500 again.
I got the no show bi-focals, on a nice frame for $80.00. I expect them to arrive soon. I am excited to see if they turn out.

Apparently young ppl are ordering from them like crazy so they can have different glasses for what they are wearing, etc...And I heard on the news, it is a good thing. Have your eyes checked by a good MD, but don't buy your glasses there. Costco apparently does a good job also.

The hardest part was measuring the distance between the center of the two pupils. You are supposed to ask someone to do it for you.
Given I was alone and not able to go out, I winged it. I measured, then compared to the centers of my current glasses, measurement was within 2 mm.

You can only get 50% back if you return. But I was in a mood to give it a go!

Good Afternoon

Karen, we have ordered from Zenni Optical before, they have really great prices, one of the pairs I bought Savannah last year was only $15.00. I have a couple of pairs picked out, but I am still deciding.......

Joanne, Bummer about Julie not passing and I understand why she wouldn't want to talk about it. I failed my first time taking the test for my license and back then it was just a written test, no driving.

Jennifer, as for the questionnaire goes, maybe just knowing if the person was a coffee vs tea person, what they like to snack on when they craft. Just so that you know the little goodies you stick in the box will be eaten and enjoyed. I think we know each other pretty well, but it might be helpful, I don't know. I don't want to put extra work on you, you have enough going on with Preston. I can help with the questionnaire if you decide to go that route.

I think a questionaire would be awesome. I know my tastes are always changing and I'd like to get my SS a little something craft related too! (I'm not very good at staying to the limit but I promise I won't go over $20 before shipping. )

I agree Jen... I need help.. or I wander around endlessly. Unsure if a person likes this or that. But, if the consensus is to wave the lists, I am ok too.

I wonder if we should move it up to $25/$30, including shipping? It may be hard to stay at $15 b/4 shipping. Just thinking out loud.
I sent a few packages recently and was shocked at how the prices have gone up...

This is a special gift between us/we do it only once per year... ?? not sure what you all are thinking? I guess I do know some just love SU and a stamp set would be the majority of the price?

Again, just rolling around with it all...

I went with the $20 limit because it was requested by a few people. I know shipping is pricey, but it's supposed to be just a little something fun for the holidays. I'm fine with whatever the majority wants. I'm just trying to make everyone happy.

I will get a questionnaire made and sent out.

Julie is back to her cheerful self. Working on math homework. She definitely wants to reschedule. It is just getting another date. They recommend using the computer but there are never dates, then you have to call and go through the computerized system which is annoying as well.

Joanne- Sorry that Julie didn't pass. She can try again! My oldest DS took the test 3 times. I think he is the safest of all three of my boys.
Caterina- great article!
kgostamper- Sorry about the test results. I went to the dr today. My blood pressure was up, my weight was up 3 pounds, I am nervous and anxious. Things just need to turn around here!
jennifer- You will have fun and do a wonderful job on the cake pops.

Thanks Jennifer for all you do. You are a dear!

Joan, sorry to hear you are feeling anxious. As you know I get that way too, it is not comfortable, that is for sure. I now have elevated BS and BP. So I have a hunch I am going to hauled into see the dietitian. Have they put you on a BP med?

There is the DASH diet and the ADA diets, I probably need to combine both.
The only thing I can think of is I did have ice cream the last four evenings before having my blood drawn. And, I have been laying around and eating too much.

Marie got her first 'official' call to groom a dog. It is my friend's neighbor. We've met her and the dog before. It is a little shih Tzu = like my Tiki! She is excited.

Hi!

Y'all have been very busy chatting!

Joanne - I'm so sorry for Julie! She'll pass next round! I'm sure of it!

Hedgie - please take care of yourself! I bet when you are up and around like you normally are everything will fall back into place!

Jennifer - Preston's birthday pics are too cute!

Pretty here today! Ran to hobby lobby for lunch to pick up some adhesive!
I can't sleep so I was up last night making a little halloween goodie for my co-workers and of course ran out of adhesive before I was done! I'll finish when I get home from work!

Hi ya Sherry! So sweet of you to make your co-workers goodies!

I had a further/more accurate blood sugar test today, A1C.... it was within normal limits. But clearly I am edging upwards and need to really watch the carbs.

If your A1C is normal you are doing OK but need to watch the carbs. I found modified paleo/high protein to be very successful for me and I enjoy the food too. The most helpful is ALWAYS eating a protein with a carb to slow down how quickly the carbs absorb.

Yesterday was a hard day. I was really depressed. I went to bed at 7:30 and slept and slept and slept. I feel so much better today! It is going to be a very hard year so I am going to have to learn to manage my stress levels.

Tomorrow is Halloween! Should be a crazy day!

Paleo is all the rage right now. It's eating like a cave person. Meat and grains. No dairy, wheat, etc. I eat modified paleo. I avoid wheat and corn. I struggle avoiding dairy. I LOVE cheese!

I have lived in a cheese state all of my life.. we have cheese shops everywhere... not sure I can do this!

I get the idea... but wonder how one does this for every single meal? I will do some reseach.

Here's my typical breakfasts/lunches:

Breakfast is rotated between:

cheese stick and a small or 1/2 piece of fruit or
apple with 1 - 2 tbl almond butter or
Kind nut bar

(I'm allergic/insensitive to eggs but you can eat eggs on this diet.)

Lunch is almost always:

spinach salad with some kind of protein (Al fresco turkey meatballs or grilled chicken or tuna or....)

All summer I was in love with BLT wraps. 3 pieces of turkey bacon wrapped in lettuce with tomato, etc.

Dinner is protein and veggies and sometimes a little carb to help me sleep.

HTH!

Another blessed day at UMMC Pediatrics, go to spend my time with a super little girl who loved playing board games, especially the Princess game where you win lots of jewelry as well as a 'crown'. She said she wanted to sleep with it.

Since tomorrow is Halloween, Child Life got lots of super costumes (brand new) that are so well done so all the children will be wearing costumes tomorrow. Wish I could see all my kiddos in their costumes. Not sure if they will take pictures due to permission needed from family.

They had a young group of ladies who did a Halloween craft time in the 'forest' while I was there so the kids could decorate their doors. Unfortunately, most of the kids are in isolation, however, my little sweetie could come to do the crafts and she is creative so her door looked great. The ones in isolation will get their doors decorated by staff and volunteers.

Wish I could be there tomorrow for the "reverse trick or treating". The staff will put the kids tables by the door with their individual decorative bags and various people come to their 'door' and leave goodies in their bags.

Cat - the things the hospital is doing for the kids is so sweet. I'm glad they are helping make the day special for them even in their situation. You are a blessing to those children you visit with! I'm glad you are enjoying it, too.

I went through the things I have for my craft table at the bazaar. I really don't have a lot. I'm just going to have to make do with what there is. I have a little more time. Not sure what I'm make - possibly sour cream Christmas containers with Hershey kisses, a few more cards (they are going to take the most time). I'm just not sure what will sell and I don't want to waste too much time. I'll take a catalog with me and some business cards. I'm very nervous about this as I was talked into it more than anything else.

Questions:

I have been reading for two days non stop.. Kind bars have come up more than once.. where do you get them?

I only eat spinach, given the nutrition.. I put veggies and a hard boiled egg on top..

Then for dinner.. it is the same.

My mistake is: I eat a whole white baked potato instead of half/and should really have a sweet potato...

I have been crock potting a lot of dinners, with low grade meats, that tenderize by cooking at low heat all day...

I used to buy only ground round for hamburger, the leanest of the leanest of chicken and beef. I guess I went astray... I am a misfit...

However, I no longer eat any baked goods, I don't eat tons of chips/ I eat plain almonds, unsalted. When you get on a restricted income.. life changes.. I feel for many who are even worse off.

My grocery list will change as of today. I will eat sparse but well. I can not let my girls down.

Hedgie - you are doing much better than I am. I agree with something Nikki said, too. You haven't had a chance to move around much at all. I bet once you get back to more activity (notice I didn't say exercise ) your levels will come down again. I have a real problem with potatoes, too.

You can find kind bars at the grocery store. Sometimes they are in the health food aisle but normally they are with all the other energy bars. They are pretty yummy! My favorite is the coconut one. The apricot one is good too and I don't even like apricots that much!

Dressing up for Halloween as the Outsiders (greasers from the 1950s). The whole team is doing it. Should be fun!

I like Kind bars too. I've seen them everywhere around here - even at the gas station. They also had them on QVC recently (KIND Bars (1 1.4 oz. Plus Snack Bars ? QVC.com)

Made it through school. What a long day! We dressed up as "The Outsiders". I was PonyBoy. Now to shower and get the "grease" out of my hair!! Looks like it is going to rain here for Halloween!

Hi everyone!

Hedgie- so glad your A1C was normal. My glucose results were 85 as part of my last blood test. I wonder about diabetes because I am overweight. Or as the dr says...OBESE.
I had NOT been eating very well. I need to get back to it. I find it so easy to grab unhealthy foods. I get home from work and I am hungry. So I don't want to take the time to prepare anything. DH is actually a hindrance, he loves junk food. However, his A1C has been around 6.8 again. As A type 2 diabetic that is okay!

Joanne- Hurray for Marie. I sure hope she can get this going as a business. it will boost her self esteem.

jen- sounds like you and I are having stressful yrs. I pray both of our improve. How are the boys?

Caterina- I was cleaning the closet. I found a cute bear that my youngest son received on Christmas from Minneapolis Children's Hospital. he also, received other gifts. Santa sneaked in during the night. Unfortunately, we spent Christmas in the Hospital when he was 15.
