Default *Misfit Monday (9-20-10)*

Good *early* morning!! I'm so sad that Brandon's going back to work today - it was wonderful having him home even though we worked our tails off!!

Jen - thinking of you during this rough time.

Nikki - hope your DH feels better so you can enjoy your vacation.

Here's before and after pictures of the nursery. It's not decorated yet, but it's close to being done.
  • Before - wall with twin guest bed
  • After - dresser and glider/ottoman

Very cute! Love the colors. That blue and green is almost exactly what is in Jack's room.....with a white chair rail in the middle.

Didn't sleep much - haven't slept in months though anyway...
There is a bird or some other creature living in the window air conditioner in my room. Ugh. Up half the night wondering what it was making that sound (ie insects that were going to invade my bed.)

Jennifer - those pictures are great! I love the colors. Where are you going to move your kitty stuff? I LOVE that crib - it is GORGEOUS!

Jen - will be thinking of you today.

I hit "snooze" one too many times and almost made Julie late for school. As it stands, I think she just won't have as much "chat" time with her friends before she needs to get to class. Not always the best way to start a Monday morning though.

Jennifer - love the pictures!

Jen - so sorry to hear about your Mom. Will be keeping you and your family in my prayers today and the days ahead.

Joanne - aren't Mondays the worst?! No matter how much I try to do; get others to do on Sunday/Sunday night, there is ALWAYS some last minute drama.

Busy at work today. I'll try to post the HGP weekly tasks and updates a bit later.

Just wanted to say Good Morning!

Default Holiday Grand Plan - Week 3 - Foyer/Entry

Holiday Grand Plan Week Three

Holiday Grand Plan by Katie Leckey
Holiday Grand Plan Printables by Cynthia Ewer

Welcome to Week Three of the Holiday Grand Plan: Entry/Foyer Week!
This week, we tackle deep-cleaning and decluttering our entryway or foyer, to create a welcoming home for holiday guests. Holiday prep chores focus on baking and kitchen as we plan our baked goodies and start stocking up for holiday meals. More printable forms help our Holiday Grand Plan notebooks grow.
Ready? Let's get organized with Entry/Foyer Week at the Holiday Grand Plan!
Deep Cleaning/Organizing Area:
Entryway or Foyer

Holiday Prep:
  • Make one batch of Holiday Goodies.
  • Make one extra meal for freezer again labeled HOLIDAY MEAL.
  • Buy two canned food items from Menus (get 2 of each item, one to use and one to donate to food drive).
  • Keep 2 boxes in a pantry area or storage place to put these in so that they are not used in everyday cooking - make sure to label them so that when food drives start your holiday supply stays intact and the food drive gets the food purchased for it.
  • Buy all supplies for homemade gifts. Package each project with directions and other information in zipper food storage bag and place in a basket or box in craft/sewing area.
  • Buy film, camera batteries, blank videotapes. Hide them; write yourself a note.

Default Holiday Grand Plan - Week 3 - Foyer/Entry Cleaning

Entry / Foyer

Cleaning Grand Plan Week Three
Holiday Grand Plan by Katie Leckey
Holiday Grand Plan Printables by Cynthia Ewer

Use the basic remove/clean/replace policy for those items which are wall-hung.
Consider how the area looks when a visitor enters your home. Again if it doesn't belong there, remove it! If you have a chair or rack that welcomes clutter, consider moving it until everyone breaks the habit of just dropping everything off in the foyer.
The next time you enter the front door after being away a few hours, look around and sniff around just like you were in a strange house. Our homes can develop "houseatosis". There are a great many air freshener products and potpourri assortments on the market today, use one if you need it!!
Don't forget to clean out the umbrella stand, if you have one. If you don't, do you need one?
Do you have a rug or maybe carpeting in this area? Do a thorough job of vacuuming it. you'll be pleased.
Do you have a window in your front door, or "side lights" which could use bit of glass cleaner? Don't forget to thoroughly dust/wash front door itself, and also the baseboards in the area.
Plan a place for everything which needs to be kept near the front door and keep it there! Everything else goes!
Now, do you need to go back and spend time on last week's project? If not, could you choose another declutter project that would enhance the beauty of your home? Choose something close to the entry or living room to help give that feeling of flow between organized rooms. like smiles and yawns, organization is contagious!

We almost did a white chair rail but we would have had the top green and the bottom chocolate brown.

HGP Status from last week.

Living Room - COMPLETE! Cleaned top to bottom - necessary when painting . Painted the brass colored outlet/switch covers in a similar wall color. Even got a new lamp to replace the one moved to the bedroom. HINT: for rooms that have display cabinets such as a wall unit or china cabinet. TAKE A PICTURE FIRST before you start packing or cleaning. Print at 8.5x11. Makes it so much easier to put everything back! I store the picture inside the cabinet/drawer for the next times, Made triple batch of meatballs last week--froze two batches. Had meatball parm sandwiches with one batch last night. Still have no gifts ideas but working on menus etc.

I'm a couple of rooms ahead due to the painting:

Dining Room - COMPLETE including newly painted switch/outlet covers

Family Room - COMPLETE. Moved matrushkas to LR cabinet to join the others freeing up space on the mantle. New clock and lamp.

Laundry Room - COMPLETE including the pantry closet. The kitchen re-do last year helped out here. It was re-org'd a year ago so only maintenance was necessary. Add a wastebasket next to the washer for lint tray clean-out. Doorknob protectors on the wall - yay. Still need to put up broom holder inside pantry, but that's ok.

This week is foyer/entry. Shouldn't take too long.

We moved the kitty stuff downstairs by the garage. We added a wicker cover to the litter box so it's conceled. The kitties have adapted great.

We love the crib too!! It's very sturdy and really nice wood. It's exactly what I wanted.

Jennifer - yes, the pumpkin is adorable!! Did I tell you that I know two other friends expecting in October? Actually the one is due October 31, so she could have a November baby very easily. And you are all expecting BOYS!

Hi Joan!

I really need to get in the shower - I have a meeting tonight and I should be clean, right?

Feeling much better. Thanks for asking, Liz.
Trying to tackle my "to do" list. By not having my name on one account has tackled me! Need to get DH to call and authorize me to take care of things. I understand the privacy act but not looking forward to receiving phone call from an overworked hubby!

I am in the mood to bake and once I get started I don't want to stop! So much stuff I want to do but the "need" to do's have to be done first!

Very hard day today. Dad is doing OK. Very sad. He said that the thing that bothers him the most is that he can't tell her things.

We picked out a poplar wood casket. Very simple. My dad was pleased -he grew up with poplar trees and likes them.

My mom will be wearing the dress she wore to my wedding. It's green. She looked good in green. I went and picked out a winter white sweater to go over it to hide the bruising. My friend's husband is running the funeral.

Please, please, talk to your family about their wishes and write down your wishes - if you care about what you wear, what readings are done, what songs, etc.

The dr. said he won't let me go more than 10 days past my due date so we won't be having a Halloween baby. I think it would be cool to have him on 10-10-10 The date is neat and it's National Children's Day. Not holding my breath on that one though

Oh Jen I so feel for you!!!! When my grandmother past away she wore a dress that had chiffon sleeves..she too had bruising and they pulled the back of the dress thru the sleeves it looked beautiful.
I'm sure you mom is very proud of what you chose for her. Your dad can always tell her things though I know it's not quite the same. Just make sure he takes care of himself,
he's come so far. MAny prayers honey to you all. How are the boys holding up?

Good advice. It is a difficult position to be in, to have those decisions when grieving and rushed.

Jen - I'm sure what you chose will be fine. I'm glad that you know the person running the service tomorrow, too. That has to be a help. BIG HUGS.

Jennifer - you never know, Baby King may want to be born on 10-10-10! He might take after his mama and like those numbers! I'm glad your doctor won't let you go long over.

Here's my funny for the day. I made sloppy joe mix for the girls to have for dinner. Bill and I ate when we got home. He wanted the left over sloppy joe. Well, turns out he heated TACO meat from the other day and had that on a bun! I told him he can have sloppy joes tomorrow!

Yep - have him strip your membranes a couple of days before...have a little action in the bedroom, something to calm you down...you'll be all set.

I called that company back and since I gave them past payments, $$ amounts and much more the gal said I could pay over the phone. The next phone call created a chain reaction and I merely made a call. That is the beginning of a novel!!

In ref. to VA...a co-worker said many of her Dr. appointments were cancelled/changed without her being notified. Has you or hub had any problems?

Well, I just know that I'm pretty definite about some things. And I wish my mom had told me more about what she wanted. My dad said that that was their plan for this summer - to make plans.

We actually made the decisions pretty quickly - I mean no one is really going to remember much of anything.

It is so cute - my brother's baby is just laughing at my kids for no reason....what a welcome distraction!

Jen thinking about you girl...........hang in there. Prayers for you and your family as you go through this tough week. HUGS....

DH is so sick, he came home early today and is NOT going to work tomorrow. His body cant take that much sickness anymore (since he got diagnosed with cancer). So when he gets sick its so hard for him to get over it. I just pray that it goes away soon. I asked if he wanted to cancel vacation and he said NO I can be sick there just as I am sick in my home. I said ok, just asking.

Hope you all had a great day today. Mine was ok, just wish that they would put me where they want me to be put at work, i dont like this going back and forth thing, its driving me nuts, i did get told today that they wished they could CLONE ME LOL yeah right................LOL LOL They want me to be a coteacher in the 4/5's and a coteacher in the 3/4's I am kool with either one, I like both teachers that are in the rooms, director told me today that she just needs strong people like me and those two classes. So we shall see what happens. Hopefully they will have it all figured out after my mini vacation.

Jennifer LOVE The nursery. The color is great , love the crib.

have a great night everyone

Nikki - you are really a special person. I don't think I'd be as patient or considerate as you have been with this work situation. I hope you get what YOU want this time!
